Description

Rattan furniture The present invention relates to rattan furniture.

Rattan furniture is already known consisting of pieces of curved and / or straight rattan which are secured to each other by means of ties or straps (called rattan ties) obtained by splitting thin rattan longitudinally. These strips are then wrapped around the parts to be assembled.

These bonds form the weakest and most vulnerable places of each rattan piece of furniture because if the woody fibers forming the outer dermis of the rattan stem are very resistant to natural destructive agents and to atmospheric conditions and influences, because this dermis not only consists of hard and resistant fibers, but also by the fact that these woody fibers form an almost tight layer, so that humidity is not to be feared on the other hand, the inner fibers of the stem rattan have a porous structure.

The application of split rattan strips for the assembly of accessory parts has the disadvantage that moisture passing through the split surfaces can enter the porous parts.

Once absorbed, this moisture being trapped will hardly be able to evaporate, which will soon give rise to an internal putrefaction of these fibers and it follows that the hard fibers of the dermis quickly lose their internal support, or no longer adhere on it form protrusions. These protruding fibers can damage clothing or even injure. In an advanced state of decay, the ligature breaks so that there are no more assembly links between the parts of the furniture. These drawbacks cannot be overcome by applying thin unsplit rattan rods, as such rods are much too stiff to be usable for this purpose.

Another drawback of this kind of ligature lies in the fact that it is necessary to nail the ends of the rattan straps; However, the drying out of the rattan over time gives rise to cre-vasses and consequently to a stripping which results in a decoupling of the assembled parts.

The object of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks, and its object is a rattan piece of furniture comprising rattan parts assembled by ligatures, characterized in that the ligatures are made by a solid wire of a flexible plastic material.

The use of such a flexible plastic wire has the advantage that there is no longer any question of riture or attack by atmospheric influences. Thanks to its flexibility, the thread is easily bent, even more easily than split rattan. Very tight winding results in a very strong coupling and assembly.

In addition, this thread can be colored or present a pattern such as for example a rattan rib, which embellishes the whole and makes it possible to produce a piece of furniture with a pleasant appearance.

The plastic wire may have a circular cross section or any other shape, but this section is preferably semi-circular so that this connecting wire only forms a small protrusion on the assembled rattan pieces. The contact surface of a semicircular wire with the surface of the parts to be assembled is also greater so that the reciprocal friction is greater and therefore the assembly more solid.

The ends of the bonding wire are clamped with a wedge and then glued using a suitable glue. The tests carried out have shown that such bonds are unlikely to loosen.
