Description

Procedure for extraction and washing out of filter cake using
Solvents on disc filters with horizontally lying
Filter elements
In many chemical processes, certain intermediate or end products have to be filtered and then washed out with solvents after the filtration. Such washing-out processes are sometimes also carried out in the filters themselves, in that the solvents used for washing are then pressed through the filter cake after the filtration.
In the recently widely used disc filters with horizontally positioned filter elements, which are only permeable on their upper side and in which the filter cakes are removed from the filter surfaces and carried out of the filter after filtration and a possible drying process, there is now a disadvantage: that such filters have a large, so-called dead volume. In other words: such filters have a relatively large space around the filter elements, which z. B. must be topped up when washing with solvents. This means that large amounts of solvents that were used for washing out must be evaporated.
It has now been found that the filter cakes in such filters can be washed out with solvents in such a way that the solvent in question is pressed into the filter in the vapor phase. Partial condensation of the solvent and the desired mixing with the substance to be extracted occurs on and in the filter cake. The solvent flowing through - partly in vapor form, partly condensed - entrains the washed-out substance. It is advisable to have a connected cooler which condenses the still vaporous phase.
The method enables such filter cakes to be washed out properly with a fraction of the amount of solvent that has to be used for the liquid extraction.
The evaporation of the solvent can take place outside the filter or inside the filter itself.
In the latter case, e.g. B. in the lower part of the filter housing a suitable direct or indirect heater for the evaporation built. The filter housing itself is preferably provided with a heatable jacket in order to avoid condensation on the inner wall of the housing.
