Removable attachment device for a measuring tape, in particular for a decameter
Until now, the attachment of measuring tapes of various materials, for decametres in particular, to a drum mounted in a casing, is generally carried out by means of a loop formed at one of the ends of the tape. a fastener, the other end of which is riveted to the tape, coming to be mounted on a finger integral with the drum. Such a fastening system has many drawbacks.
As regards the manufacture of the decameter, it is in fact in this case necessary to introduce during assembly already, the terminal end of the tape in the winding mechanism, by hooking the loop to the finger of the drum. This results in handling difficulties, leading to delays in execution, as well as risks of damage to the ribbon.
As far as the user of the decameter is concerned, it is essential that he be able, in the event of damage to the tape, to replace it without having to disassemble the case and the mechanism beforehand. However, until now, this work has been made inevitable precisely because of the fact that the ribbon is inseparable from the mechanism from the outside of the case. If this disassembly is relatively easy in the case of a frame decameter, it is not the same for the closed case decameter.
Systems have already been proposed for removable fastening of the tape to a fastener, one end of which is connected to the drum and the other end of which can protrude from the housing. However, such systems have so far proved to be complicated and expensive, so that in practice they are hardly used and do not remedy the assembly difficulties listed. On the other hand, the existing systems generally provide a large extra thickness at the right of the connection of the measuring tape.
This extra thickness results in a very annoying runout for winding the tape. This false round is also increasing with the number of coiled turns.
The present invention specifically relates to a removable attachment device for a measuring tape on a drum mounted rotatably in a housing, obviating these drawbacks and comprising a fastener, one end of which forms a loop intended to be attached to a finger integral with the drum and the other end of which, protruding from the housing, is detachably connected to the tape.
This device is characterized in that the removable connection between the fastener and the tape is constituted by a fastening member cooperating on the one hand with a first loop formed at the free end of the fastener and, on the other hand hand, with a second loop, formed at the end of the ribbon itself.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention and a variant.
Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of the device mounted on a decameter.
Fig. 2 shows a detail of FIG. 1, on a larger scale.
Fig. 3 is a variant of the detail shown in FIG. 2.
The decameter shown by way of example comprises a housing 1, in which a drum 2 controlled by a mechanism 3 is rotatably mounted.
A measuring tape 4, which may be metallic or of textile material, winds around the drum by actuation of the mechanism. For this purpose, the tape is made integral with the drum by a fastener 5, one end of which has a loop mounted on a finger 6 of the drum, while its other end forms a loop 7 of reduced width, attached to a clip. 8, itself fixed to the end of the tape 4 provided with another loop 9, also of reduced width, so that in the region of the connection, the width thereof does not exceed the width of the tape .
In fig. 2, we see that this clip forms a double T having two openings 10 and 1 1 delimited by two pairs of opposed fingers 12 and 13.
The width of the openings is at least equal to the width of the loops. Each of the fingers 12 and 13 penetrates into one of the sides of the loops so that once introduced, the tape is secured to the clip, therefore to the drum, and can be wound up or unwound at will, the clip playing. the role of a mechanical link.
As a variant, as shown in FIG. 3, one of the openings, 14, of the clip is closed and allows the irremovable attachment of the end of the clip.
As before, the other opening, 15, is open and two fingers 16 and 17 make it possible to removably attach the end of the tape. This solution has the advantage of avoiding a risk of loss of the clip, since the latter remains integral with the clip.
The clip can be made of work-hardened sheet metal or any other material that is sufficiently strong.
The fastener is preferably made of sheepskin, plastic, fabric, or other equivalent material. The loop of the tape may be formed by the material itself thereof, if it is flexible, or by a flexible accessory fastener riveted to the tape, when the latter is metallic.
The simplicity and usefulness of the device described are essential. Indeed, it is obvious that the assembly of a decameter is greatly facilitated since the drum and the clip can be assembled with the mechanism in the housing independently of the tape. The clip has a length such that, when the decameter is assembled, it can protrude from the housing. It can therefore be seen that the tape can be connected simply afterwards and removably to the drum, by means of the clip which makes it integral with the clip.
It is then easy to wind the tape on the drum to make the decameter ready for use.
The assembly is thus carried out without risk of damage to the tape and can be carried out more quickly and easily than hitherto. In addition, it becomes possible for the user of the decameter to replace a damaged ribbon without dismantling the housing, simply and quickly.
