Fig. 1 einen Schnitt des unteren Teiles eines Behälters der bekannten Art;
Fig. 2 einen entsprechenden Schnitt einer ersten Ausführungsform eines Behälters gemäss der Erfindung;
Cylindrical container made of thermoplastic material
The invention relates to a cylindrical container made of thermoplastic material, the opening edge of which is overlapped by a channel-shaped flange edge of a closure element which is welded to the opening edge of the container.
The use of thermoplastic containers for food is limited by the fact that the taste of the food in the container can be largely spoiled by the plasticizers contained in the thermoplastic material of the container. On the other hand, when using certain types of thermoplastic, plasticizer-free material - such as plasticizer-free polyvinyl chloride - for the container, its impact or shock resistance is low.
This low impact resistance is particularly disadvantageous when the container is used for packaging liquid food, e.g. B. cooking oil is determined.
It has now been found that the impact resistance of the container, even if all the components of the container are made of plasticizer-free, thermoplastic material, can be increased in that, according to the invention, only the outer flange of the channel-shaped flange edge of the closure elements is welded to the opening edge of the container, while the inner flange of the channel-shaped flange edge remains movable relative to the opening edge of the container. As a result of these measures, the outer peripheral part of the central part of the closure element can act as a shock absorber near the inner surface of the body part.
As a result of the shock absorbing property of the end cap, the force exerted by the contents of the container on the central part of the end cap when the container hits a hard surface is transferred gradually and not as a shock to the connection between the end cap and the body part.
It has been found that a cylindrical container of the known type, e.g. B. one in which both the inner flanges and the outer flanges of the end closure are attached to the inner and outer surface of the body part, respectively, the body and end closure parts being made of plasticizer-free polyvinyl chloride, with a filling of 4 "C water, A corresponding container, designed according to the invention, only cracked when it fell by at least 120 cm onto a concrete floor.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the inner flange of the channel-shaped part of the closure element is arranged at a distance from the inner wall surface of the body that is close to it. As a result, the damping property of the closure element is increased as well as if, furthermore, the inner flange of the channel-shaped part of the closure element rises obliquely from the inner wall surface of the body that is close to it.
It can be useful to arrange a layer of material between the inner flange of the end closure element and the inner surface of the body that is close to it, so that these parts are prevented from being thermally welded to one another when the body and the end closure element are fastened. A suitable material for such an intermediate layer is a silicone oil. Such a material offers further advantages if it has elastic properties itself.
The invention will now be explained using an exemplary embodiment with reference to the drawing.
Show it:
Figure 1 is a section of the lower part of a container of the known type;
2 shows a corresponding section of a first embodiment of a container according to the invention;
3 shows a corresponding section of a second embodiment of a container according to the invention and
4 shows a corresponding section of a third embodiment of a container according to the invention.
In the case of the container according to FIG. 1, the essentially cylindrical body part 1 consists of thermoplastic material, as does the end closure element 2. This end closure element consists of a disk-shaped central part 3 which is surrounded by a circumferential zone of channel-shaped cross-section, which is surrounded by the inner flanges 4 and the outer flange 5 is formed. The edge 6 of the container body is received in the annular groove formed by the flanges 4 and 5, the flanges being welded to the inner and outer surfaces of the body by applying heat, as indicated by the reference numerals 7 and 8. The impact resistance of such a container, if it is made of a plasticizer-free, thermoplastic material, is extremely low because of the brittleness of the material.
If a shock occurs, the contents of the container exert a force on the central, disk-shaped part of the end closure element 2 on the relatively thin strip material on the circumference 9 of the central part, which transfers this force as a shock to the welded joint 7. The effect of this is that either the end closure element or the weld 7 is broken if the size of the joint exceeds a certain value.
In the first embodiment of a container according to the invention, as shown in FIG. 2, the end closure element 10 has such a shape that its inner flange 11 runs obliquely from the inner surface 12 of the body 13 that is close to it. Like the body 13, this end closure element is made of plasticizer-free, thermoplastic material.
The outer flange 14 of the end closure element is welded to the outer surface of the body in the usual way by applying heat, as indicated by reference number 15.
In this embodiment, the inner flange 11 has shock-absorbing properties due to its ability to move with respect to the edge zone of the body.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, the inner flange 16 of the end closure element is arranged at a distance from the inner surface of the body 17 which is close to it, so that the part of the end closure element formed by the inner flanges 16 and the transition part 18 of the inner flanges 16 to the outer flanges 19 in acts as a shock absorber with respect to shocks transmitted between the contents of the container and the weld joint 20.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 4, a layer 21 is arranged between the inner flange 22 of the end closure element and the inner surface of the body 23 that is close to it, which layer is made of a material that prevents the flanges and the inner surface from being thermally bonded to one another. In this way, if suitable welding devices, such as high-frequency electrodes, are applied to the outwardly facing surface of the inner flanges 22 and the outer flanges 24 of the end closure element, only the thermal welds 25 are formed. Because the layer 21 prevents the flanges 22 from sticking to the opposite inner surface of the body 23, the flanges 22 impart shock-absorbing properties to the termination. The layer 21 preferably consists of a silicone oil. A layer soaked in silicone oil can also be used.
