Method for applying a multilayer plastic coating For coating objects, in particular metal surfaces, using synthetic resins or plastics, both painting methods and other coating methods are used. To achieve good protective, pore-free coatings, it is in; In both cases it is necessary to apply several layers, for high demands up to 10 layers.
Protective coatings made from solvent-containing paints have weaknesses, as a certain amount of pore formation is unavoidable due to the solvent evaporating during film formation. Advances in this area were made by the so-called solvent-free two-component paints and plastisol, which contain liquids that do not dissolve the binder as dispersion media.
as well as the sintering process including the paint sintering process. The actual film formation takes place in the paint sintering process by melting. A film created in this way is much denser than one in which solvent still escapes from the coating during the filming process, but it has been shown that even this coating process with a thin layer does not provide absolute certainty with regard to freedom from pores Offer.
It should be noted that under certain circumstances a single pore can hold a large and valuable workpiece, e.g. B. can make a storage container unusable. For safety reasons, systems with at least 2 layers and, in the case of more difficult conditions or higher stresses, at least 4 layers are applied.
To simplify contract work and to improve the coatings, it has already been proposed to use a dispersion of thermoplastic grains in a paint containing a synthetic resin binder. In this process, the thermoplastic grains are partially embedded in the paint binder when it solidifies, and those protruding from the base layer; Parts of the thermoplastic grains then melted ver to form a cover layer.
With a single application, a two-layer coating is obtained. However, the process requires a two-stage heat treatment at different temperatures and the lacquer binder must not flow at the most softening temperature of the thermoplastic.
The invention is based on the idea of a z. B. to produce a two-layer coating by using two different thermoplastics that form two layers when they melt and when they cool down they form a coating that consists of two firmly bonded layers and is firmly attached to the base.
The method for applying dense multilayer coatings consists in the fact that a dispersion of at least two different thermoplastics, which in; the dispersion are compatible with one another, but in the molten state separate into corresponding layers, which are applied to the surface to be coated, whereupon a heat treatment takes place at a temperature,
which is above the softening point of the thermoplastic with the highest melting point.
In contrast to this, it was previously of the opinion that when building paints or coating dispersions from two or more binders, one had to choose components that are compatible with one another in every respect, ie. H. which can form as homogeneous a mixture as possible in solution or in dispersion as well as in the film-coated state. For the present process, z. B.
the following thermoplastics: polyethylene, polyamides, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, cellulose acetobutyrate, acrylic and methacrylic esters, terephthalates. Have proven such. B. the combinations of polyethylene-polyvinyl chloride, polyamide-polyvinyl chloride. One can also use two different types of plastic, e.g.
B. use of polyethylene or poly amide; Due to different physical properties, such as degree of polymerization, specific weight and the like. Are able to form two layers in the molten state.
To produce the dispersions, so-called non-solvents are used, which do not dissolve the thermoplastics applied even when heated. In most cases it is advantageous to add a flux. For this purpose, z. B. epoxy resins, polyacrylic resins, ketone resins, styrene-maleic acid ester resins. Usual additives such as plasticizers, stabilizers, dyes, pigments, diluents, fungicidal substances, etc. can be added as desired.
The application of the process extends to all areas where multicoat paintwork or coatings were previously required. The process. can basically be used for coating all materials that can withstand the melting temperature of the plastics used. So z. B.
Molded parts of all kinds, such as household appliances, office machines, tiles, wire baskets and wire racks, traffic signs, electroplating racks, foils and sheet metal, are coated with plastic. The method is also suitable for the outer and inner lining of containers and equipment. Depending on the application, the coating layer serves either as weather protection, as protection against chemicals, or for electrical or thermal insulation, as well as corrosion protection and to make it waterproof.
The ease of use allows anyone skilled in the art to produce high-quality protective plastic coatings without special aids.
To further explain the invention, some exemplary embodiments will then be given. All quantities are given in percent by weight.
