     Certains de ces oscillateurs, montés dans des pièces de gros volume, sont constitués par de longs ressorts de torsion, encastrés à leurs deux extrémités et partant, dans leur partie centrale, un bras oscillant dans un plan perpendiculaire au ressort et dont les extrémités coopèrent avec des dispositifs électromagnétiques d'entretien. Dans d'autres variantes,

     l'une des .extrémités du ressort est encastrée alors que l'autre est pivotée dans une sorte de palier de manière à pouvoir se déplacer légèrement ou se déformer axialement. Ces dispositions présentent cependant toutes l'inconvénient de prendre ,une place très importante du seul fait de la longueur du ressort, ce qui les rend diffibilement utilisables dans la montre- bracelet. Il semble,

      en effet, que tous les constructeurs qui ont fait appel à ce genre de dispositif ont estimé indispensable, probablement pour des raisons construc- tives ainsi que pour obtenir des fréquences suffisam- ment faibles, de leur donner de telles dimensions.

  On a    cependant   déjà    envisagé      l'utilisation   de    ressorts   à torsion ou de lames    vibrantes      dans   les montres-bracelets. C'est    ainsi   que    dans   une forme d'exécution on a    encastré   une lame vibrante à la    périphérie   du mouvement    alors   que son autre    extrémité   porte    un      bras   oscillant    avec      ladite   lame    dans   un plan    parallèle   à    celui   de la    platine   ;

      cette disposition fait cependant elle aussi appel à un ressort beaucoup trop long pour permettre une disposition ramassée des différents organes, disposition indispensable à la, réalisation d'une montre-bracelet commercialisable.

    Electronic wristwatch Classification: $ 3 a, 10/17 83 b, 3/00 rnt. CI .: G 04 b 17/10 G 04 c 3/00 Application number: 7902/63 Filing date: May 24, 1961, 181/4 h.

   Application published on November 30, 1966 Patent issued on April 15, 1967 There are already known time bases having a torsional oscillator oscillating at average frequencies of the order of 10 to 150 Hz approximately, and thus lying between those of the balance wheel -spiral on the one hand and the tuning fork and piezoelectric oscillators on the other hand.

     Some of these oscillators, mounted in large-volume parts, are formed by long torsion springs, embedded at their two ends and leaving, in their central part, an oscillating arm in a plane perpendicular to the spring and whose ends cooperate with electromagnetic maintenance devices. In other variations,

     one of the ends of the spring is embedded while the other is pivoted in a kind of bearing so as to be able to move slightly or to deform axially. However, these arrangements all have the drawback of taking up a very large place simply because of the length of the spring, which makes them difficult to use in the wristwatch. It seems,

      in fact, that all the manufacturers who have used this type of device have considered it essential, probably for construction reasons as well as to obtain sufficiently low frequencies, to give them such dimensions.

  However, the use of torsion springs or vibrating blades in wristwatches has already been considered. Thus, in one embodiment, a vibrating blade has been embedded at the periphery of the movement while its other end carries an oscillating arm with said blade in a plane parallel to that of the plate;

      This arrangement, however, also uses a spring that is much too long to allow a compact arrangement of the various organs, an arrangement essential for the production of a marketable wristwatch.

  In another embodiment, the spring is embedded vertically by one of its ends in a plate while its other end carries an oscillating mass cooperating with maintenance devices. In this construction, all the effort has been focused on the miniaturization of the oscillator assembly,

        that is to say both of the mass and of the spring, the latter however remaining longer than the diameter of this mass. It follows that, although constituting a very interesting improvement,

     this construction does not yet give any satisfaction because the combination of a small mass with a relatively short spring does not make it possible to produce an absolutely satisfactory oscillator both from the point of view of the frequency obtained and with regard to the, production. maintenance devices that cooperate effectively with the mass.

     The present invention results: precisely from the recognition of the unexpected fact that it is possible to use, contrary to what has been done hitherto, extremely short torsion springs, of the order of the millimeter, with a mass whose main dimension perpendicular to the axis of oscillation is relatively large,

   of the order of tens of millimeters.

  The present invention indeed relates to an electronic wristwatch comprising at least one electromagnetic oscillator consisting of a torsionally operating spring embedded at one of its ends in the plate and carrying at its other end an oscillating mass extending mainly in a plan

     parallel to the movement, and controlled by an electronic maintenance device having at least one transistor in the circuit of which motor and sensor coils are mounted.

     This wristwatch is characterized in that the said spring has a length constituting a sub-multiple of the largest dimension of the oscillating mass. Such an oscillator will also be less sensitive to shocks external to the. due to the great rigidity of the short spring.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

    The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the. present invention. Fig. 1 is a plan view.

  Fig. 2 is a section along VI-VI of FIG. 1. FIG. 3 is an electrical diagram.

  The drawing. shows a timepiece on the plate 1 of which are mounted two torsion oscillators 2 arranged side by side and driven at instantaneous speeds at all times opposed so as to ensure the dynamic balance of the whole @ of the system.

     Each of these oscillators is constituted by a torsion spring 2b of cruciform section, embedded in the plate and at the end of which is arranged transversely an arm 2a whose ends 3 are curved by 90 ()

     downward and on each of which came to apply the edge 4 of a cylinder head 5. The central part of this cylinder head is provided with a screw 6 for the adjustment of the. frequency of the oscillator while four small pins, arranged in its corners, are used to fix it on the curved part 3.

  The bottom of the yoke carries two magnet bars 7 in the form of a sector and of opposite polarity, arranged on either side of the screw 6; cooperating with a coil 8 housed in a cylindrical housing limtié by the. cylinder head and end 3.

   The coil is fixed in its central part to the end of a core 9 which passes through a slot 10 made in the bent part of the arm and the other end of which is secured to a support 11 fixed by two screws to the platinum 1.

  One of the coils of each of the arms corresponds to the sensor coil 8c of the maintenance system .represented at fis: 3 and the other coil corresponds to the driving coil 8m. At each oscillation, the flux of the magnets 7 induces a current in the coil 8c which unlocks the transistor 12.

   The latter then lets a current pass through the. 8m reel that revives the arm.

     These oscillators are mounted on a conventional sized wristwatch so that the arms 2a can easily be about 15 to 20 inches long provided they are placed in the central part of the room and extend across. the whole thereof .. The torsion spring 2b has a length constituting a sub-multiple of that of the arm and being of the order of 2 to 3 mm.

     Excellent experiments have also been made with springs even smaller from 1 to 1.2 mm, it being understood that the construction of their embedding must then be particularly careful.

   Such a construction is described in Swiss Patent No. 367443 and is most suitable if spring elements having cross-sections of the order of 0.05 to 0.1 X 0.2 to 0.4 mm are used. .
