Method for producing a dry electrolytic capacitor The invention relates to a method for producing a dry electrolytic capacitor having an anode which consists of a porous body for aluminum powder sintered together.
Such an electrolytic capacitor is known and is produced in that, after the forming of the anode body consisting of compressed and sintered aluminum powder, an aluminum oxide layer serving as a dielectric is generated on its surface, a solid semiconducting metal oxide is attached to this aluminum oxide layer, and a layer of on this oxide a material with a high electrical conductivity is arranged and the whole is built into a housing.
The layer of solid semiconducting metal oxide is deposited on the dielectric oxy layer by impregnating the formed anode body with a salt of the metal in question, which is derived from an oxygen-containing acid, the so impregnated anode body at a pressure of at most 10 mm Hg is dried and then heated to a temperature
in which the semiconducting metal oxide is formed by pyrolysis. If the semiconducting compound is MnOs, it is impregnated with a solution of manganese nitrate and, after drying, heated to a temperature of 250 to 300 ° C. in vacuo.
It is also possible according to another known method to apply the layer of semiconducting metal oxide by heating the impregnated anode body to a high temperature for a short time without first drying the anode body. To produce a layer made of MnO2, it is then heated to a temperature of around 450 C.
However, this method is more critical than the first and can easily lead to rejects if one does not ensure that the impregnated anode bodies reach the required high temperature very quickly.
The embodiment in which an anode body consisting of sintered powder is used is expedient if the capacitor dimensions as small as possible with a certain capacitance value are required. In comparison with a wound film capacitor, this embodiment has a more favorable value of the capacitance per unit volume.
It shows, however, that difficulties arise when forming such an anode body, pressed and sintered from aluminum powder, with the forming electrolytes customary for Al, as a result of which a capacitor with usable electrical properties could not be obtained. These Formierungselektro'lyten, which are excellently suited for the production of the dry wound aluminum Fdlienkondensators, z. B.
aqueous electrolytes with boric acid and borax or electrolytes on the basis of glycels with boric acid and ammonia. Inadmissibly high leakage currents, high losses, low capacitances or combinations of the same were obtained.
The invention provides a formation electrolyte for a porous anode body consisting of aluminum powder sintered together, with which it is possible to produce a dry electrolytic capacitor with excellent dielectric properties.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that both the initial formation and the post-formation are carried out in an electrolyte which consists of an aqueous solution of an alkali biphthalate which contains 0.1 to 5 wtA of this compound.
The invention is explained in more detail using two exemplary embodiments.
1. Aluminum powder with a particle size between 5 and 50 microns and with a purity of 99.99% Al was mixed with 6 wtA naphthalene. From this mixture, pellets with a diameter of 3.4 mm and a length of 5.4 mm were pressed around an aluminum wire with a diameter of 0.5 mm and a length of 30 mm.
These pastilles were sintered for 1 hour at a temperature of 655 ° C. at a pressure of 10-20 × 10-5 mm Hg. According to the invention, some of the pastilles were formed to 25 volts in an electrolyte consisting of a 0.25% solution of potassium biphthalate in water (1). This electrolyte has a specific resistance of 850 Ohm / mm and a pH of 4.2.
For comparison, an equal number of pastilles were each formed in one of the following electrolytes: (2) 0.1% citric acid in water (specific resistance 1500 Ohm / em and pH = 2.2), (3) 3.84% H1B03 + 0.01% NH4OH in water (specific resistance 5000 Ohm / cm and pH = 5), (4) 2% boric acid + borax up to pH = 6 in water (specific resistance 1800 Ohm / cm).
The formed pastilles were impregnated with a solution of Mn (NO3) 1 "-4 H20 in their own crystal water and then heated for 1 min. To 450 ° C. and reformed to 21 volts in the same electrolyte solution. The impregnation and reforming were carried out a total of three times After the formation and after each post-formation, the lozenges were rinsed thoroughly in heated water and dried at a temperature of about 70.degree.
The pastilles were then provided with a graphite layer by means of a suspension, and a silver layer was applied to this layer by means of a silver plating spaste, connecting wires were attached and the structure was installed in a housing.
The table shows the reject percentage of the capacitors that are formed with each of the above electrolytes and the average value of the leakage current measured at 10 volts for the remaining capacitors, the capacitance, the loss factor tg and the impedance at a frequency of 100 kHz (Z looHZ) is measured.
