Description

Process for the production of non-dusting textile dye preparations The present invention relates to a process for the production of non-dusting textile dye preparations and the non-dusting textile dye preparations produced by this process.

Textile dyes are generally marketed as finely ground powders. These powders often have the unpleasant property of being dusty when they are handled. In the case of dyes, in particular very strong types such as cationic dyes, this leads to annoying contamination of the environment and of the personnel involved in handling with even the slightest build-up of dust.

The pollution of the air by dye particles can lead to the staining of other dyeable materials and thus, for example, render colorless or monotonously colored textiles unusable. In addition to these disadvantages, which are particularly disruptive in the production and use of the dusting dyes, considerable material losses can also occur as a result of the dusting.

Processes have therefore long been known which have the purpose of suppressing the dusting of dye powders. By pressing or granulating it is possible to bring dyes into a dust-free form, but these preparations have different properties from the starting materials. Powders packed together to form granules, tablets or briquettes are often difficult to dissolve or disperse, which is why the application of this process to dyes has disadvantages.

In practice, therefore, the addition of wetting oils or larger quantities of hygroscopic liquids such as glycerine is most often recommended. Both methods are unsatisfactory when used alone, since, especially with highly dusting powders, the dusting is reduced but by no means eliminated and it is difficult to avoid the formation of lumps. The same applies to just moistening with water. For this reason, the means mentioned have recently been used in combination with other measures.

For example, polyhydric aliphatic alcohols with hygroscopic properties and water were used, or the powders were wetted with paraffin oil and then subjected to post-compression by venting. While the first-mentioned method does not provide satisfactory results in all cases, the second method is cumbersome and requires special equipment, since the compression takes place under vacuum. The well-known agglomeration of the powder particles by moistening with water vapor in a turbulence zone only leads to a reduction, but not to a prevention of the dust.

A process has now been found which allows it to convert even highly dusting textile dyes into non-dusting preparations in the simplest way and without changing their dyeing properties. It is characterized in that 2 to 10 percent by weight of ice is evenly incorporated with intensive mixing into dusting dye powder containing 0.1 to 2 percent by weight of a binding agent and optionally coupaging agent.

Liquids that have sticky properties and wet the powder to be treated well or envelop the individual particles and thus prevent primary caking are particularly suitable as binders. In doing so, they must not have any adverse effect on the subsequent processing.

Liquid saturated and unsaturated paraffin hydrocarbons, and also cycloaliphatic, hydroaromatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, have proven to be particularly advantageous liquids for this purpose. These are generally technical mixtures of hydrocarbons from the specified classes of compounds, and these substances can optionally be sulfated or halogenated. Such Gemi cal z.

   T. used as transformer or compressor oils and are z. B. under trade names such as Essotex 5 (Esso Co.) or Diala-Öl C C (Shell Co.) known. Furthermore, the so-called Twiichell-01 nR (Emery Industries, New York: k), which is made from oleic acid and aromatic hydrocarbons, such as naphthalene, is obtained by the action of excess sulfuric acid, is widely used.

Polyglycols, liquid or in a suitable solution, e.g. B. polyethylene glycols with Nlol- weights between 200 and 10,000, polyhydric aliphatic alcohols, z. B. glycerine, or esters of aliphatic alcohols, z. B. dioctyl phosphate. These binders are generally used in amounts of 0.1 to 2, preferably 0.5 to 1 percent by weight, based on the dry weight of the dusting dye preparation.

The inventive method can be applied to the usual textile dyes, in particular to the water-soluble cationic and anionic dyes. However, the so-called dispersion dyes, which have only very low solubility in water and are essentially dispersed in the dye liquor, can also be processed according to the invention into non-dusting dye preparations.

The dyes can be in concentrated technical form or in a weakened form; As additives, they can primarily contain the so-called coupages, which thin the color, which can be added in amounts of up to approx. 1000 percent by weight, based on the weight of the concentrated dye, or surfactants. As such diluents, among other things, especially water-soluble salts of inorganic or lower organic acids come into question, such as sodium or potassium salts of hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid or acetic acid, also z.

   B. So-called. Sulphite waste liquor from pulp production. Dextrin and similar Steffe, also carbonates or hydrogen carbonates (the latter in 25 "ro of the weight of concentrated dye, in general not exceeding amounts).

The inventive production of non-dusting dye preparations is expediently carried out in such a way that the ground and dried, undiluted or diluted dye containing 0.1 to 2 percent by weight of a binding agent is mixed in a suitable apparatus with 2 to 10, preferably 5 Up to 7 percent by weight of crushed ice, preferably in the form of splinters, mixed intensively in the shortest possible time until homogeneous distribution is achieved.

A homogeneous distribution is achieved, for example using high-speed mixing apparatus in which the ice and the dye are exposed to great shear forces. Under the influence of such shear forces, the evenly distributed ice melts without the formation of lumps, which inevitably occurs when the same amount of water is added to the dye powder instead of ice.

The result is a non-deafening, crumbly, free-flowing, better wettable, more rapidly soluble powder product, of up to approximately three times the bulk density compared to the starting dye powder, which can be handled comfortably and without the nuisance of dust. Under normal climatic and storage conditions, it hardly changes its properties, even after a long period of storage, and its coloring is exactly the same as the raw material before the ice was incorporated.

The particle size of the starting dye powder used is up to about 50 Y, generally below 5 u. After the treatment according to the invention, the non-dusting product obtained has a particle diameter of up to about 1 00.11.

Depending on the type of dye, the preparations are also suitable for dyeing, impregnating or printing natural or synthetic Mate rials, such as any textiles, types of paper and leather.

The method according to the invention has the advantage of a wide range of applications and achieves the goal even with highly dusting dye powders. It is a simple and cheap way to get non-dusting products; in particular, there are no special operations. like post-compression, necessary, but the incorporation can take place in the course of the normal type setting of the dye, which represents a significant simplification. Also, no special equipment such.

   B. for spraying the powder with liquids, necessary, but it can use the usual A directions for dye preparation. Associated with the removal of dust is a strong reduction in the volume of the preparations compared to the starting materials or such preparations. which were moistened either with oily substances or with hygroscopic compounds. As a result, compared with such preparations, only half the packaging capacity is required with the preparations according to the invention.

Preparations obtained in the process according to the invention are not only dust-free, but powders which previously remained floating on the surface with clumping when water was added, become quickly soluble and are therefore easier to distribute or dissolve in cold water or other solvents.

The following examples illustrate the invention. Example 1 A dried and ground dye preparation consisting of: 91 g dye of the formula
EMI0002.0085
are filled into a 50 ml cylindrical mixing vessel equipped with a suitable stirrer. At a number of revolutions of approx. 3000 rpm, 5 g of ice in the form of split tern are entered in small portions. The initially powdery, dusty product gradually collapses and becomes dull. As soon as the number of revolutions falls as a result of the solidification of the mixture, the mass is discharged.

The result is a non-dusting dye preparation which dissolves easily and quickly in what water and which does not change its properties even when stored. Its bulk density is 0.50 g / cm3, its grain size approx. 50 ce, while the corresponding values before the incorporation of the ice are 0.40 g / cm3 or approx. 5 y.

If 50 g of the dye preparation thus obtained are used, it is ground with 45 g of sodium sulfate and 5 g of chip ice are incorporated in the same way as described above, a product is obtained with the same good properties, but half the coloristic strength.

Non-dusting dye preparations with similar properties are obtained in the same manner as indicated above with the dye compositions listed in the table below.
