  Composite element for abrasives
The present invention relates to a composite element for abrasive articles.

It is known to provide abrasive articles (grinding and cutting disks, etc.) with fabric inserts in order to increase their explosion resistance (resistance to throwning).

Such fabric inserts consist, for example, of glass, nylon, terylene, cotton, metal and others. The fabric inlays are usually impregnated and are therefore referred to as prepregs.

As a rule, such reinforcement elements consist of fibers, threads or yarns that are connected to one another. Such Armiernngsbeilagen z. B. consist of a variety of intersecting threads or fibers of various origins, which are impregnated and connected to each other at the crossing points. These mostly disc-shaped fabric inlays have so far been individually inserted into the grinding bodies to be reinforced, which increases their strength, in particular their resistance to explosions (centrifugal strength). In many cases, however, the explosion resistance that can be achieved with this proves to be inadequate, particularly in view of the generally ascertainable tendency towards rapid grinding.

The present invention significantly improves the explosion resistance of armored abrasives.

The composite element forming the subject of this invention is characterized by a number of fabric inlays which are connected to one another and thus form a cohesive supporting framework.

An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention along with two variants is illustrated in the accompanying drawing.

Fig. 1 shows a composite element which is particularly suitable as a composite insert for plastic-bonded abrasive bodies and which
Fig. 2 and 3 illustrate a schematic representation of two further possibilities of the verb in training.

The composite element shown in simplified form is denoted by 1 in its entirety in FIG. 1. This composite element has a number of coaxially superposed, disc-shaped Ge webeeinlagen 2, which consist of glass fiber threads intersecting at right angles. The fabric inserts 2 are impregnated, as a result of which the individual glass fiber threads are on the one hand stiffened and on the other hand are connected to one another at the crossing points.

To achieve a composite element of high strength, all of the fabric inlays 2 are connected to one another by connecting links 3. These connecting links 3 extend over the entire height of the composite element 1, wherein they are preferably anchored at the crossing points of the tissue structures.

The connecting links 3 can be anchored to the fabric inlays 2 by twisting, knotting, weaving, gluing or welding, or some other appropriate means of fastening.

FIG. 2 shows how the fabric inserts are connected to one another by threads 4 which are each looped around the glass fiber threads of the fabric inserts and knotted and thereby hold the fabric inserts together.

Fig. 3 shows intersecting rods 5, which are anchored to the tissue inserts 2 by welding.

Other types of mutual connection of the tissue inserts 2 can be developed by a person skilled in the art on the basis of the above instructions.

The connecting links can be made of any material which has the required strength and allows the connections described to be made. So threads made of organic or synthetic fibers as well as commercially available wires can be used without further ado.

The composite element 1 consolidated in this way thus forms a statically self-contained supporting structure into which the working mixture (abrasive plus bond) can be introduced, for example by sprinkling, spinning, centrifuging or shaking.

The particles of the abrasive fill the gaps and surround the composite element.

The fabric inserts 2 can also consist of nylon, terylene, cotton, metal and others, it being possible for them to be impregnated with synthetic resins or plastics (phenolic or polyester resins).
