Description

Expansion joint lining for civil engineering works, in particular for road bridges The main patent relates to an expansion joint lining for civil engineering works, in particular for road bridges, characterized in that it consists of a strip of elastic material of trapezoidal section, the small base of which is intended to be oriented downwards, said strip being provided in the vicinity of its edges with profiles coated in the plastic material,

interrupted at least partially from distance to distance to increase the longitudinal flexibility of the lining and having perforations intended to receive fixing bolts.

The metal segments, coated with elastic material, are capable of being partially or totally notched according to the requirements of the longitudinal profiles and are drilled at intervals in order to receive fixing means. The lining advantageously has section variations intended to facilitate its elongation and contractions in the transverse direction.

The advantages of the seal thus formed are defined by the fact that, on the one hand the flexible seal is flexible in the longitudinal direction, on the other hand the seal, being in one piece and strongly pressed on its seats, ensures a tight fit. perfect cheerfulness. It can be transported on a reel and match the variations in profile of the deck of a bridge, for example: bending of the road traffic area, trickles of water, sidewalks or others.

The improvements made to the device which is the subject of the main patent are essentially intended to rationalize the design of the seal, to simplify its manufacture and to allow the lining to work effectively, not only in tension and compression, but also in torsion. and shearing, which no seal intended for this specific use can, to our knowledge, provide until now while keeping intact its sealing qualities.

The present invention relates to an elastic band device according to the main claim, characterized in that metal parts, placed on plastic pins located in variations in profile of the band, are fixed on said pins at the means of wood screws, the purpose of these parts is to prevent any upward deformation of said strip during compressions.

Advantageously, the profiled metal segments, completely coated in the elastomer constituting the lining and serving as retaining and fixing reinforcements, are connected to each other, externally to the lining, by metal elements, L-shaped profiles, by means of bolts or studs, in order first of all to pre-compress the upper edges of the lining, are combined to give the assembly thus formed the required rigidity while at the same time providing the flexibility characteristics mentioned above.

Both transverse and longitudinal stability of the seal can therefore be ensured without the gasket comprising, embedded in its mass, or outside thereof, a metal plate or other, continuous or discontinuous, of maintenance as is the case of known gasket, the interposition of which has the effect of preventing the joint from working in torsion or shear if it must be thus stressed, accidentally or not.

The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, one embodiment of the invention.

Fig. 1 is a cross section along a strip of great width.

Fig. 2 shows a top view of the profiles made of robés in the elastomer and interconnected by profiles outside the strip.

Fig. 3 is a side view.

Referring to fig. 1, the deck 1 and the abutment 2 separated by the expansion space 3 comprise base plates 4 made integral with the deck and the abutment by means of anchor bars 5 embedded in the concrete. The base plates have perforations allowing the passage of fixing bolts 6, bolts whose square heads are held by a stop 18 welded to the plate 4. The gasket 7, the shape of which is defined in the main patent, is retained by the bolts 6 on the base plates 4 by means of metal parts 8 embedded in the elastomer 7. These parts have three wings 8a raised squarely and formed by cutting and bending leaving two horizontal legs 8b.

The neighboring profiles 8 forming an integral part of the strip are connected to each other by elements 9, external to this strip, elements consisting of L-sections. Each of these sections, pierced with two holes, intended for the passage of the fixing bolts 6 , aims to provide the strip with greater rigidity while maintaining it firmly on the plates 4. However, they make it possible to retain the required flexibility of the lining 7 in the longitudinal direction. Indeed, it is an advantage to adapt the trim to the cross section of the deck.

For this purpose, if necessary, the raised part of the L-shaped section 9 can be cut so that it has a V-shaped notch (fig. 3), the notch whose point reaches the bottom of this part and which therefore allows the horizontal part to deform, to form a broken line and to marry, as much as possible, the shape presented by the bridge itself.

To facilitate the installation of the nut 12 and its tightening on its fixing bolt 6, to also allow, if necessary, the use of bolts of larger diameter and therefore of nuts of larger size, the profile 9 has perforations 11, placed opposite the nuts 12 and located in the lower position in the raised part of the profile. The parts 9 also have the role of creating, by virtue of their angle shape at less than 900, a pre-compression zone in the upper ends of the lining 7, the latter being very useful when the seal is working in tension.

As a result, the upper edges of the strip always remain firmly pressed on the outer faces of the profiled elements 9 and therefore provides an additional sealing factor for the seal.

The essential improvement, however, relates to the transverse stability which takes place here without the aid of the stiffening metal part with raised edges previously used in the main patent. In fact, the positioning of this part, because it required the provision of additional elements, was quite complex: the part was placed under a metal plate incorporated in a boss provided in the trim. and was fixed on this plate by the intermediary of a screw engaging in the tapping formed in the latter.

In addition, the groove of the gasket 7 in which the stiffening plate worked was relatively wide which weakened it and generally required the use of an auxiliary supporting metal plate, external to the joint itself, and resting on the ends. civil engineering elements to be joined together so as to provide a surface stabilized coating by the base.

A result similar to that obtained by this system, that is to say the maintenance of the lining in a horizontal plane when, subjected to compression, it tends to rise, is achieved as follows. The elastomeric lining does not has more, in cross section, than an alternation of identical and relatively narrow grooves 17, the seal resting directly on the elements of the civil engineering structure. During the molding of the lining, there is therefore provided, from distance to distance, in the grooves 17, cylindrical studs 13. They are located in the bottom of said grooves and in their middle.

After vulcanization of the strip, stabilizers 14, consisting of small rectangular metal plates of the same width as the grooves of the seal and pierced with a hole of diameter slightly greater than that of the stud, are positioned around said stud. A wood screw 15 and a washer 16 ensure the maintenance. stabilizer around the nipple and, because of the expansion of the latter during tightening, eliminates any play between the stabilizer and the nipple. During compressions of the packing, the stabilizers 14 prevent the lifting of the seal by forcing the rubber to move towards the cavities formed by the grooves without any external deformation of the upper part of the profile 7.

The better stability and increased resistance of the lining therefore make it possible to do without cover plates for the space provided for the free expansion of the structures.

The various adjacent elements of the gasket, cut to present together the shape corresponding to the expansion space, are joined to each other by metal profiles, the sealing being ensured by gluing using a filler product. This meeting also allows easy repair by replacing a defective element with a new one.
