Abstract

Glass fibre reinforced resin tubes, of the hollow cylindrical type on the outside of which an endless belt is wound in a helix of pitch equal to the belt width so that successive turns are in abutment, and returned within a concentric hollow mandrel core to the starting point of the winding. The special features of the mandrel is the support of this belt on a series of endless ball-bearing belts carried on supports distributed round and attached the periphery of the hollow mandrel core, in such a way that the belts run in the direction of advance of the said helical belt and parallel to the mandrel axis. The balls are supported in guide rails in such a way that any tendency for the helically wound belt to move away from its true line of almost frictionless advance is strongly resisted by the friction set up between the balls and their guide rails.

Fig. 2 einen Schnitt nach der Linie II-II in Fig. 1,

Driven mandrel rotatable about its longitudinal axis for the continuous production of pipes of any length, preferably glass fiber reinforced plastic pipes
The invention relates to a driven mandrel rotatable about its longitudinal axis for the continuous production of pipes of any length, preferably of glass fiber-reinforced plastic pipes, which mandrel has a tubular mandrel core with a core part protruding cantilevered from the mandrel pivot bearings and an outer mandrel wall surrounding the cantilevered core part at a distance, on the outside of which the tube is made, and which consists of an endless band that is continuously wound in a helical manner with a pitch corresponding to the band width in the direction of the free end of the mandrel core, so that the band windings rest against one another with an angular fit

wherein the tape at the free end of the mandrel core is returned through the core to the start of the winding section, and support devices are attached to the mandrel core on which the tape forming the mandrel outer wall is wound up in the specified manner.

In order to reduce the friction occurring between the tape windings and the support devices as well as between the support devices and the mandrel core, it was proposed according to Swiss patent specification No. 467 666 to use endless spherical tapes as support devices, each with a belt strand running the entire length of the mandrel wall.

The use of several such endless ball bands as support devices for the mandrel outer wall, however, requires structurally complex guide and storage devices on the mandrel core, which ensure free rotation of the ball bands with the least possible resistance in the axial direction, but guide each ball band exactly in its radial plane.

The use of spherical hinges as support devices for the outer mandrel wall has the particular disadvantage that the two curved connecting sections between the inner and outer straight strands of the endless spherical hinges, which are located in the area of the root of the cantilevered mandrel core part and in the area of the free end of this mandrel core part, form one must have a relatively large radius of curvature, so that in those cases where the mandrel diameter is smaller than the smallest permissible radius of curvature of the circularly curved transition sections of the spherical belts between the radially inner and the radially outer spherical belt strand, the use of such spherical belts as support devices is not possible.

The present invention aims to overcome these drawbacks. According to the invention, this is achieved in that the support devices of the outer mandrel wall consist of rollers that are evenly distributed in the mandrel longitudinal direction and in the circumferential direction, are located at the same distance from the mandrel core axis, are firmly mounted on the mandrel core and are freely rotatable around an axis running at right angles to the mandrel longitudinal direction. Such rollers, like the above-mentioned ball band balls, can be rotated practically without friction in the longitudinal direction of the mandrel around their axis by the band windings that form the mandrel outer wall, lie against the periphery of the rollers and are supported by them when they are moved towards the free mandrel end. However, moving the mandrel windings in any other direction requires that the mandrel windings slide on the rollers.

Such undesirable sliding is prevented by the frictional resistance. The use of rollers instead of ball belts offers the advantage that the diameter of a roller can be significantly smaller than the required radial distance between the two strands of an endless ball belt. With such rollers as support devices for the mandrel outer wall, plastic pipes with a significantly smaller diameter can thus be produced than on winding mandrels, the outer wall of which, consisting of tape windings, is supported by endless spherical bands.

The rollers can have two pinole-shaped pins which protrude from both roller sides and serve as the roller axis, each of which is mounted in a sleeve bearing on a roller holder projecting radially from the mandrel core. In this embodiment of the rollers, their bearings can absorb both radial and axial forces with low friction if these do not exceed a certain limit. This embodiment is therefore particularly well suited for mandrels with a relatively small diameter.

For winding mandrels with a large diameter, where the support devices of the mandrel outer wall are heavily loaded, the rollers can have a continuous axis which is mounted in a roller holder protruding radially from the mandrel core.

Finally, the rollers can be designed as roller bearings, for example ball bearings, which are arranged on an axis fastened in a holder that protrudes radially from the mandrel core. In this preferred embodiment, the tape windings can be moved particularly easily in the longitudinal direction of the mandrel, as a result of which the driving force for rotating the mandrel is reduced to a minimum.

The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing. Show it:
Fig. 1 in side view and partially in section along the line I-I in Fig. 2, an embodiment of the rolling elements,
Fig. 2 is a section along the line II-II in Fig. 1,
FIG. 3 shows a section corresponding to FIG. 2 through another embodiment and
4 shows a corresponding section through a third embodiment of the rolling elements according to the invention.

1 schematically shows a holder 1 for several ball bearings 2 serving as support devices for the outer wall (not shown) of a winding mandrel (not shown). The holder is designed as a bar running in the longitudinal direction of the mandrel, which consists of two parallel legs 1a and 1b, FIG and consists of a bridge 1c connecting these, which is arranged in such a way that it divides the space between the two legs la and 1b into a channel 3 open at the radially outer leg end and running in the longitudinal direction and into a channel 3 on the opposite side of the material bridge lc Dividing channel 4.

The ball bearings 2 are arranged in series in the channel 3 and are each freely rotatably mounted on an axis 5, which are guided through two aligned bores in the two legs la and lb.

The ball bearing axles protrude somewhat from the outside of the legs and are secured there against displacement by locking rings 6. The holder 1 is pushed with its groove 4 onto an anchoring element (not shown) on the winding mandrel core.

A suitable number of holders with ball bearings, as described, are arranged at the same mutual distance in the direction of the mandrel circle and at the same distance from the mandrel longitudinal axis. The ball bearings 2 are arranged in the grooves 3 in such a way that they protrude somewhat in the radial direction over the radially outer ends of the legs la and lb and are evenly distributed both in the longitudinal direction of the mandrel and in its circumferential direction, so that they the turns of one around the holder 1 endless steel band, not shown, wound around the mandrel, the windings of which lie against one another with an angular fit and thereby form the mandrel outer wall.

The tape windings run essentially at right angles to the plane of the paper in FIG. 1.

3 shows an embodiment essentially corresponding to FIGS. 1 and 2, but in which rollers 2a are used as rolling elements instead of the ball bearings mentioned.

Fig. 4 shows an embodiment with rollers 2b, which do not sit on a continuous separate axle, but each have two pinole-shaped axle journals 5a protruding from the two roller sides, which are each mounted in a sleeve bearing 7 in the relevant beam leg la or 1b.
