Process for the production of auxiliary layers for photographic
Materials based on synthetic polymers
The invention relates to a process for the production of auxiliary layers for photographic materials of all kinds.

Plastic layers for protection against mechanical damage have been known per se for a long time.

However, these are mainly water-impermeable layers of lacquer that are applied to materials that have already been developed (e.g. on cinema film for demonstration purposes), or layers that come off in alkaline developer baths. Only in recent years have latices of synthetic polymers, in particular copolymers of acrylic acid esters or their derivatives and acrylic acid itself and its derivatives with additions of other macromolecular products, in particular gelatine, been described in the patent literature. Insofar as these layers could be applied to unexposed photographic materials at all, they had the particular disadvantage that they often did not come off completely during development and that gelatin-containing mixtures in melted, ie. H.

had to be applied to the photographic emulsion of the materials in question in a heated state, as a result of which they also became heated and thus under certain circumstances production errors occurred. Furthermore, such film formers are often not tropicalized, prevent the material from being written on and tend to generate electrostatic charges.

Although the excellent emulsion-forming properties of polyvinyl alcohol have been known for a long time, its use for the production of photographic auxiliary layers has only recently been described in the patent literature, namely in a mixture with the polymerization of acrylonitrile and / or methacrylonitrile. However, these emulsions tend to become cloudy and produce a matting effect on the film, which must be suppressed by adding plasticizers specially developed for this purpose.

The purpose of the present invention is to enable the production of opacity-free auxiliary layers for photographic materials also with plastics other than polyacrylonitrile and without the use of components which are not otherwise contained in the photographic system.

According to the invention, this object is achieved in that an aqueous dispersion of a polymer or copolymer of an acrylic acid derivative together with an aqueous solution or dispersion of polyvinyl alcohol or vinylethinylcarbinol and an addition of a dicarboxylic acid polyglycerol ester, monoglycerol ester of saturated and / or unsaturated fatty acids, polyglycerol ester, polyglycerol ester Fatty acids, a dioxy-diphenyl-alkane derivative, polyoxy-poly.diphenyl-alkane derivative or an alkylphenol polyglycerol ether and then applied to a base at room temperature.

The layers obtained in this way can be used primarily as protective layers against mechanical damage, with suitable additives also as antistatic and bacteriostatic auxiliary layers and, in the case of multilayer films, to hinder or prevent diffusion between the image-recording emulsion layers and are characterized by particularly easy producibility and minimal influence on the gradation and Sensitivity off.

   example 1
500 ml of a 20% polyvinyl alcohol solution and 50 ml of a 20% solution of diisobutenylsuccinic acid sorbitol polyglycerol ester are added to 500 ml of the above dispersion of a copolymer of 40/0 ethyl acrylate and 60/0 acrylonitrile and mixed thoroughly with a turbo stirrer. Heptylphenol.) Benzene polyglycerol ethers and mixed intimately with a turbo stirrer. The emulsion thus obtained is applied to the layer side of a photographic film in a known manner, and the same photographic properties as those mentioned in Example 1 are obtained.

   Example 7
An emulsion prepared according to Example 1-6 is additionally treated with a fungicide, e.g. B. pentachlorophenol, added in amounts up to 0.01. The coating layers obtained when applied to a photographic material have a high bactericidal and fungicidal activity.

Likewise, the emulsion can be used with an antistatic additive, e.g. B. Trimethyloctadecylammonium methosulfate or an additive be standing from a surface-active electrolyte with Oxäthylcellulose or oxethylated cellulose ethers, are added.

   Example 8
