Description

Device for treating a material, in particular a textile material, by means of a liquid medium
The invention relates to a device for treating a material with a liquid medium, and it is of particular advantage in the treatment of textiles. However, other materials, such as. B. paper, leather or plastic, are treated in the device according to the invention.

The device according to the invention is characterized by a first chamber for receiving the material to be treated, a device for generating a strong vacuum in the first chamber for degassing the material, a second chamber for receiving the treatment medium, means through which the second chamber is under overpressure can be set, a closing device in a connecting line between the first and second chamber, when the opening of which the treatment medium flows from the second into the first chamber, means provided in the first chamber for evenly passing the treatment medium through, as well as means for achieving a very rapid flow through the Material when opening the locking device,

so that immediately after the first contact of the treatment liquid with the material, the treatment liquid is evenly distributed over the surface of the material.

The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the exemplary embodiments shown in the drawings. Show it:
Fig. 1 is a vertical section through a device for the piece-wise treatment of material such. B.

a spool of thread wound on a tube through a medium, and
Fig. 2 is a section through part of a device similar to the device of Fig. 1, but for treating yarn which is wound on a tube which widens conically at one end.

The device shown in FIG. 1 includes a first container or chamber 100 which delimits a vacuum zone or a degassing area.

Although only a single pack TP is shown in the tank or in the chamber 100 in order to simplify the description in the drawing, it should be understood that this can be designed to accommodate a plurality, if desired of packs TP. The tank or chamber 100 is made of sufficiently rigid material to withstand a vacuum on the order of 711 mm (28 inches) of mercury absolute pressure. The tank can e.g. B. made of stainless steel or some other suitable material.

The tank 100 is finally provided with a removable cover 120 which, as soon as the pack TB is arranged in it, is fastened by means of bolts 140.

Furthermore, a second tank or container 160 is provided, which has an area for a treatment medium D, such as. B. color liquid, cleaning liquids, water, fixing media, air, steam, solutions, finishing media and the like are limited. This tank is preferably arranged above the first-mentioned tank 100, but can also be arranged to the side or below it, as long as it is ensured that its outlet, provided it contains a liquid treatment medium, is below its level. The tank or the chamber 160 must be large enough to be able to accommodate such an amount of treatment medium D that any size of a tank 100 that is used in the system can be met.

It should be clear that the size of the tank 100 depends on the number and types of yarn packs TP to be treated. The tank or container 160, like the tank 100, is made of stainless steel or the like and must be able to withstand pressures of at least the order of 50 psi.

To Enwärmung the treatment medium D to a certain temperature, a heating device 180, z. B. a steam generator 200 is provided to which a closed heating coil 220 is connected, which is located immediately above the bottom of the tank 100. The steam generator is able to raise the temperature of the treatment medium to 1490 C (300C F). For certain treatment media, such as. B. for colored liquids, closed heating coils 220 are preferred for heating them, since these do not dilute the liquid, which would be the case if wet steam were used for heating purposes. Furthermore, a temperature measuring device 240 is arranged on the tank 160, by means of which the temperature of the treatment medium located in this can be measured.

The tank 160 is further provided with an inlet opening 260 for a line 280 through which either the treatment medium D can be pressurized or wet steam at a high temperature can be introduced into the interior of the tank. If the treatment medium D is liquid, the inlet opening 260 is arranged above the highest level L of this liquid. A branch line 300 is connected to the line 280 via a separately operable valve 340 which leads to a compressed air source 230, e.g. B. an air compressor or the like leads. A pressure measuring device G is arranged in the hood of the tank 160 and enables the pressure build-up in the tank 160 to be displayed. Furthermore, a steam generator 360 is connected to the line 280 via a branch line 380 which also contains a separately actuatable valve 400.

The yarn package TP placed in the tank 100 is a package wound on a tube. The middle section of the tube that carries the turns of the yarn is. as indicated at 420, perforated. In some cases the tube for the packing is designed as a rigid tube which is provided with perforations. It could also be designed as a spring tube or as a tube made of reticulated material, through which a liquid or vapor can easily pass. The ends of the tube of the pack TP fit, on the one hand, into an outwardly open sleeve 440 on the cover 120 and, on the other hand, into an outwardly closed sleeve 460, which is provided on the bottom 480 of the tank 100. Any suitable seals 500 are provided between these two sleeves and the ends of the tube.

A connecting line 520 is provided between the bottom of the tank 160 and the upper end of the tank 140 and is also sealed off from the sleeve 440 by means of a seal 540. The connecting line 520 is provided with a quickly openable valve 560 for a large flow rate, as a result of which the two containers 100 and 160 can be quickly put in and out of connection with one another.

Furthermore, a container or a reservoir 580 for the treatment medium D is provided, which is connected to the inlet 600 of a high-performance pump 620. Described more precisely, a line 640, which is provided with an actuatable valve 660, is connected to the inlet line 680 of the pump 620, which also contains a separately actuatable valve 700. The inlet line 680 is further connected to the bottom of the tank 100 via an outlet line 720, which also contains a separately actuatable valve 740.

As soon as the connecting line 520 is connected to the interior of the tube 420, a flow of the treatment medium D forms from the inner to the outer area of the pack. Of course, if the line 520 is connected to the interior of the tank 100 outside the packing, the flow can also be guided from the outside to the inside area of the packing. If so desired, the outlet conduit is preferably connected to the interior of the tube 420 of the package. The outlet 760 of the pump 620 is connected to the upper region of the tank 160 via a line 780. This line 780 also contains a separately actuatable valve 800.

In order to be able to evacuate the tank or the chamber 100, a high-performance vacuum pump 820 is provided, which is connected via a line 840 to the tank close to its bottom. The vacuum pump 820 sucks the atmosphere from the tank 100, which atmosphere can contain the treatment medium which has evaporated or evaporated.

The vacuum pump further conducts the atmosphere through a condenser 860, which conducts the gases through a line 880 to the atmosphere and releases the vapor condensed into liquid to the line 900, which is connected to the reservoir or the storage container 580 for the treatment medium D. A vacuum device 920 attached to the tank 100 can be used to display the vacuum prevailing inside the tank.

In Fig. 2, a tank 101 is shown, which is used to receive a pack RP, which is wound on a sleeve which widens conically at one end. In this application example of the invention, the tank 101 is modified in such a way that a pin 103 is provided, which protrudes into the bore at the tapering end of the counter-conically shaped pack RP, whereas an enlarged sleeve 102 is provided, which goes into the conically widening part 104 the sleeve carrying the packing RP protrudes. This part 104 can be perforated or made of reticulated material, whereby the liquid or the vapor can easily pass through it.

As mentioned earlier, the devices of FIGS. 1 and 2 can be used for the piece-wise treatment of textile material or the like with a number of treatment media. In the following description of the method, the treatment medium is indicated as a coloring liquid and the treatment is described as coloring for a large number of possible applications of the invention. As can be seen from the drawing, the packing RP is first inserted into the tank 100. With the valves 560 and 740 closed, the interior of the tank is then evacuated or degassed by means of the vacuum pump 820 to a desired vacuum in the order of magnitude of 711 mm (28 inches) of mercury.

Either simultaneously with the evacuation of the tank or the chamber 100 or before or after the same, the tank 160 is filled with the color liquid D up to the desired height L by opening the valves 660, 700 and 800 and operating the pump 620. As soon as the tank 160 is filled to the desired level L, the valves 660, 700 and 800 are closed and the paint liquid is then increased to the predetermined temperature desired or required by the particular treatment. The tank 160 can be pressurized while the paint liquid is being heated or independently thereof. Whether or not the tank 160 is pressurized depends on the type of treatment and what pressure difference between the tanks 100 and 160 is desired.

The tank 160 can be pressurized separately, by opening the valve 340, with the valve 400 closed, by air flowing in from the compressed air source 320, up to a desired value, which is indicated by the pressure gauge G.

As soon as the color liquid D in tank 160 is at the desired temperature and pressure, valve 340 is closed and rapidly openable valve 560 is actuated, causing an almost instantaneous flow of color liquid into the bore of the pack TP and through the pack TP arises in the evacuated area of the chamber 100. The transfer of the color liquid from the tank 160 through the pack TP into the tank 100 takes place almost immediately. For example, it has been found that a packaged tank 100 capable of holding 5,000 ml of liquid can be filled with that liquid in approximately one second when evacuated to 711 mm (28 inches) of mercury and then evacuated to a liquid which is under a pressure of 20 psi.

Changes in temperature, but not pressure, as tests conducted at 380 C (1000 F), 660 C (2000 F) have shown, do not substantially affect this overflow time.

If it is desired, in order to achieve color development, to return the color liquid, it is only necessary, as soon as all of the color liquid D is in the tank 100, to close the valve 560, to open the valves 740, 700 and 800 and the color liquid in pump back the upper tank 160. The method steps described above can then be repeated.

When it is desired to fix the paint, the paint liquid is drained from the lower tank 100 by opening the valves 660 and 740. As soon as this has occurred, these valves and valve 560 are closed again. The tank 100 is then evacuated by starting up the vacuum pump, as a result of which the vaporized dye is condensed out and returned to the reservoir 580.

The upper tank 160 is empty at this time. With valve 800 closed and valve 400 open, steam is supplied to tank 160 until it is at a predetermined pressure and temperature. The vapor is then released in the same way as the color liquid, i.e. H. by opening the quick open valve 560, passed through the yarn package TP.

The method and the device, which were described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, can be used for any piecewise treatment by means of gaseous or liquid media, if otherwise good penetration and / or impregnation of the textile material is difficult to achieve.

For example, this method can be used for coloring, resin treatment, mercerization, cleaning, finishing treatment or the like. Some typical procedures, which are intended to serve as an illustration, are explained in more detail below with the aid of the following examples in which the percentages represent percentages by weight of the yarn. In all of these examples, the time to fill the evacuated chamber with paint liquid was only about 1 second.

   example 1
A 510 g (18 ounce) tubular yarn package of 5-1 / 2/1 rayon / cotton was dyed in accordance with the present invention in a 5000 ml vacuum tank. For this purpose, a color liquid containing 5S (OWY) Fastolite Blue BFL and 20 S (OWY) salt was placed in an expansion tank and heated to 93 ° C (2000 ° F). The expansion tank was then capped and live steam was added until a pressure of 40 psi (pounds per square inch) was reached.

After the expansion tank was made ready as described above, the vacuum tank containing the package that was to be colored was evacuated to 711 mm (28 inches) of mercury. After this had been achieved and the supply of live steam to the expansion tank was ended, the expansion tank was connected to the vacuum tank, whereupon the color liquid was applied within 1 sec. overflowed from the expansion tank into the vacuum tank.

The pack was left in the color liquid for 5 minutes, after which the color liquid was drained from the vacuum tank and the pack removed.

The yarn of the package was dyed to a good degree.

   Example 2
A 510 g (18 ounce) yarn package of 5-1 / 2/1 rayon / cotton was dyed in a 500 ml vacuum tank. The same process steps were followed for the coloring and the same color liquid was used as in Example 1, but the following additional process steps were attempted: After the pack for 5 min. was left in the color liquid, the liquid was removed from the vacuum chamber and this was for 3 min. placed through it under a vacuum of 711 mm (28 inches) of mercury. The expansion tank was refilled using the previously used paint liquid and heated again to a temperature of 930 C (2000 F).

The expansion pressure was then pressurized to 28 psi with live steam while the vacuum tank was brought to a vacuum of 660 mm (26 inches) of mercury. Then, the vacuum tank was connected to the expansion tank, whereby the coloring liquid flowed into the vacuum tank again, and the yarn package became through 5 min. left through in this. Then the color liquid was removed from the vacuum tank and this was again placed under vacuum and for 2 min.

left under vacuum to remove any excess liquid from the yarn of the package.

Finally, the pack was removed and checked, which showed that the yarn was very evenly colored and the pack met expectations.

   Example 3
A yarn package made of 100% cotton yarn was dyed in a manner similar to that of Example 1. In the present case, however, the yarn package was wound counter-conically.

Using the same kind of coloring liquid, the same temperatures and the same pressures as in Example 1, the yarn package was for 5 minutes. colored through. When evaluating the finished pack, it was found that the yarn was dyed very evenly, but that there were some deformations in the pack, which were due to the forces occurring when the color liquid flowed into the vacuum chamber.

In the complete treatment and the finishing treatment of a piece of textile material or the like, this is usually subjected to a series of treatments in successive stations. where the piece is consecutive and resp.

or is moved continuously from one station to the next. to achieve the desired result of the treatments. In cases where the piece of textile material for a sequence of treatments is moved essentially continuously from one station to the next, suitable conveying devices can be used, the speed of movement through the various process steps being controlled on the basis of the treatment time in the slowest station becomes.

As an example, which is by no means intended to restrict the invention to a specific sequence, it should be mentioned that a piece of a textile material is subjected to the treatment and finishing treatment steps of cleaning, if necessary drying, dyeing, fixing by means of steam or, if necessary by chemical treatment of the washing to remove excess materials, further, if necessary, the drying and the application of media of the finishing treatment, such as resin or plasticizers, could be added down. In all of these stations, where it is necessary to apply a treatment medium or to carry out a drying, the station could be provided with a device which is formed by a vacuum tank and the associated devices for receiving the piece to be treated.

With the individual use of the method or the device in any one or more treatment or finishing treatment stations, the speed of the treatment and the uniformity of the application of the treatment medium in this station could be accelerated considerably by this. If z. If, for example, the method and the device are used in a dyeing station, the uniformity of the application of the color as well as the speed of dyeing and the speed of fixation could be accelerated if the method according to the invention and the device according to the invention are used. Likewise, the time for cleaning the piece could be reduced in the cleaning station.

In this way, the overall treatment and finishing time of a textile material could be drastically reduced, especially when such a method and apparatus are used in stations which usually require the longest treatment time.
