Feeding device for automatic lathe
The present invention relates to a feeder device for an automatic lathe comprising a tube guiding a bar of material to be machined engaged in the headstock of the lathe, and pressure means acting axially on the bar to prevent it from moving back with the clamp. of the doll at the end of the turn cycles.
Feeding devices of this type are already known which are designed so that they can be used when the bar change takes place automatically.
Often, these devices include inside the tube a pusher provided with a lateral butterfly which projects from the tube through a slot and which is driven by a chain and a counterweight. These fully mechanical devices operate relatively noisily, especially when the bar to be machined is rotated at high speed by the headstock of the lathe. In addition, the friction of the bar against the end of the pusher produces waste which tends to clog the tube quickly. These drawbacks are more particularly unpleasant in feeders with automatic bar change in which there is placed at the rear of the lathe a barrel formed from a series of tubes which are placed successively, by a counting operation, in the extension of the doll.
The aim of the present invention is to overcome these drawbacks.
For this, the device according to the invention is characterized in that the pressure means comprise a piston engaged with play in the tube and a pressurized oil supply circuit connected to the rear end of the tube, the oil s 'flowing from back to front in the tube so as to bathe the bar.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of a sliding headstock lathe equipped with the first embodiment of the feeder,
fig. 2 is a view in partial axial section, on a larger scale than that of FIG. 1, of the device shown in this figure, and
fig. 3 is a schematic sectional view, on a smaller scale, of the second embodiment of the device.
The drawing shows an automatic lathe with sliding headstock 1, the essential elements of which are a headstock 2, a frame 3 for the radial tool holders and a tool holder frame 4 disposed frontally facing the headstock 2. The means of drive of the headstock and of the various tools, which are controlled in the usual way from a camshaft, are not shown. Behind the lathe 1, is disposed, on a support 5, a barrel 6 formed of a series of bar guide tubes integral with each other and arranged parallel at an equal distance from an axis of rotation parallel to that of the headstock. tower. The barrel 6 can rotate around its axis so as to bring each of the tubes 7 (fig. 2) which constitute it in a position coaxial with the headstock 2.
Each tube 7 of the barrel 6 contains a bar 8 to be machined, the front end of which engages in the headstock 2 when the corresponding tube is in the working position.
The free space between the front end of the barrel 6 and the rear end of the tailstock 2, of the order of 15 to 20 cm, is freely crossed by the bar 8.
The bar 8 engaged in the headstock of the lathe is pushed from right to left in FIG. 2 by pressure means which comprise a rod 9 and a pusher 10 arranged one behind the other. The rod 9 has at its front end a tip 1 1 machined with a conical housing 12 into which opens a central cylindrical bore 13. The bar to be machined 8 can be placed in the tube 7 with its rear end raw from the factory . It is in contact with the rod 9 by the conical face of the housing 12. On the other hand, in the case of bars of smaller diameter, this bar engages in the bore 13, and it is guided more closely than a bar. simply in contact with the conical face of the housing 12.
The intermediate rod 9 has a conical rear end 14 which is engaged in a conical housing 15 that the piston 10 presents. The rear face of the latter is, on the other hand, flat and perpendicular to the axis of the tube.
The rear end of tube 7 is normally open. It projects rearwardly from a spacer 16 which forms part of the frame of the barrel 6. However, the tube which is in the active position is connected by its rear end to an oil supply circuit. under pressure via a rubber fitting 17 forming a suction cup. This connection is carried by a support 18 capable of being actuated by a pneumatic cylinder 19 mounted on a support 20. The cylinder 19 control means are not shown. The connector 17 has a passage 21 to which is connected a flexible pipe 22 which is itself connected to a pump (not shown).
The supply circuit may also include an oil discharge pan, as well as the multi-way valves and check valves necessary to allow correct operation of the device.
The operation of the device is as follows: when the barrel 6 undergoes a counting operation which brings a tube 7 opposite the doll 2, this tube is occupied by a bar 8 and the rod 9, as well as the piston 10, is found at its rear end. The cylinder 19 moves the support 18 of the connector 17 so as to cause this connector to engage on the rear end of the tube 7 as seen in FIG. 2. The feed pump, which is stopped during counting, is then started and the oil fills the rear end of the tube 7, so that the pressure is exerted on the piston 10. However, the clearances provided between the side faces of the piston 10 and the tube 7 are large enough for the oil to flow between the piston and the tube. It therefore bathes the intermediate rod 9 and the bar 8 after having undergone a drop in pressure passing around the piston 10.
As the clearances provided between the nozzle 1 1 and the tube 7 are even greater than those provided between the piston and the tube, the oil at reduced pressure flows freely to the front end of the tube where it is collected in the tank 23 before returning through the pipe 24 to the supply device 25. If necessary, deflectors can be provided, if necessary, to prevent the oil from coming into contact with the other tubes of the barrel 6. Thus, the pressure of the oil exerts through the intermediary of the piston 10 and the rod 9 an axial thrust on the bar 8, which replaces the action of the counterweights or friction drive chains of known devices until now. When the bar has been gripped by the clamp of the doll 2, it is rotated.
It can also drive the rod 9 in rotation, in which case the friction takes place in the bottom of the housing 15 or, on the contrary, rotate relative to the end piece 11. In both cases, the particles which could be detached from the bar 8 by friction are evacuated by the oil. Likewise, the dirt present on the bar 8 and liable to be deposited on the internal wall of the tube when this bar comes into contact with the tube is also evacuated, which maintains the cleanliness of the tube. In addition, it was found that the fact for the bar 8 to rotate in an oil bath considerably reduced the noise that had been noticed until then.
As seen in fig. 2, a magnetic contact 26 is arranged in the vicinity of the front end of the tube 7. This contact is sensitive to the pressure which prevails on the rear face of the piston 10. It is therefore actuated when the bar 8 has advanced sufficiently to that the piston is located entirely in front of the contact 26. The signal emitted at this moment triggers a trip so that at the end of the cycle in progress at this moment, the turn stops entirely, the clamp being open.
The dimensions of the various parts described are such that, in this position, the rod 9 is already engaged in the headstock by its front end so that the non-usable bar end is as short as possible.
In the case of a fully automatic installation, it is possible to provide at the front of the barrel 6 a drive device towards the rear of the rod 9, consisting for example of two nylon rollers mounted on movable axles, mounted in either side of the rod 9 and pressed against the latter. After stopping the lathe, it is thus possible to control a displacement of the rod 9 towards the rear, which also makes it possible to remove the non-machined bar end, in the case where the rear end of the bar 8 is secured to the nozzle 11.
However, in a semi-automatic installation, it will be possible to provide a possibility of displacement of the barrel 6 relative to the headstock 2, in order to free the rear end of this headstock to allow the ejection of the end of the bar, and of also free the front end of the barrel to allow the rod 9 to be pushed back by hand to the inside of the tube 7. Before moving the barrel, the oil supply pump will be stopped and, if necessary, the pressurized conduit 22 may be connected to a discharge in order to drop the pressure prevailing upstream of the piston. This cylinder 19 will be actuated so as to move the connector 17 away from the rear end of the tube, which will allow the counting operation bringing a new bar and a new tube 7 opposite the headstock 2.
It will then suffice to bring the connector 17 into contact with the new tube for the device to be in working order again.
In the case of a fully automatic installation, the fact that the oil pressure is exerted on the pressure gauge contact 26 will trigger on the one hand the stopping of the lathe, and, on the other hand, the stopping of the oil supply, the release of the tube 7 and all the operations of counting and replacing the device for a new sequence of operations.
Fig. 3 schematically shows an embodiment provided for a non-automatic device.
In this embodiment, the bar feeder only comprises a single bar guide tube 26. The piston 10 and the intermediate rod 9 housed inside this tube are identical to the corresponding parts of the first embodiment. On the other hand, the rear end of the tube 26 is free. On the other hand, this tube 26 is entirely contained inside a sleeve 27, the two ends of which are sealed. This sleeve is connected at its front end to the tube 26. The pressure switch 32 for triggering the stop of the lathe is placed, as seen in FIG. 3, immediately in front of the front end of the sleeve 27. The oil from the pump 28 is conducted under pressure in a pipe 29 which connects to the sleeve 27 in the vicinity of its front end. The pressurized oil therefore fills the sleeve 27 before entering the tube 26 from the rear.
This arrangement has proved to be even more effective than the arrangement described with reference to FIG. 2, for noise damping, the tube 26 being, in this second embodiment, completely free inside the sleeve 27, so that its vibrations are damped by the oil which surrounds it. In this embodiment also, it is possible to provide, on the pipe 29 as well as on the pipe 30 coming from the tank located at the front end of the device and on the pipe 31 connected to the oil reserve, the non-stop valves. -return and valves necessary to ensure the various functions required.
