Abstract

A replaceable filter element comprises upstream and downstream filter plates each comprising the appropriate distribution equipment, and with the filter layer clamped between them. The upstream silfer plate has a flat outer face and a pattern of distribution channels, pref. oriented radially, on its inner face covering virtually the entire area of the filters; these are supplied by passages through the plate, at intervals along the channels. The downstream filter plate is externally flat and also has a pattern of channels on its inner face, differing from the first pattern and pref. generally circumferential, interconnected by collector channels pref. radial and circumferential to provide laminar flow on this side; one or more discharge passages lead from the collector channels through the plate. One or both plates have ribs outside the channels, to press into the filter layer and seal it. The plates have edge seals esp. of rib-and-groove type. Pref. the two plates are of plastics, seal welded together at this edge seal. The whole unit has a centering device enabling it to be mounted easily in its housing.

Description

The present invention relates to a filter element for treating liquids with a first cover plate, which contains the structural parts of the inflow side, and a second cover plate, which contains the structural parts of the outflow side, and a filter layer arranged between these plates.

There are already replaceable filter elements in the form of filter cartridges for various applications for filtering out foreign substances or other impurities from liquids are known, as well as elements encapsulated in cartridge form with layer or bag-shaped inserts with processing materials for liquids, these processing materials certain components of the to be treated Hold back media.

Although known filter elements are largely perfected in their construction, they have a number of disadvantages. A main disadvantage occurs in the periodic replacement of filter inserts, where the insert soaked with liquid residues, dirt and impurities often has to be recorded manually, which is neither pleasant nor desirable in several respects.

The object of the present invention is therefore to create a filter element of the type mentioned at the outset which can be handled easily and cleanly, can be manufactured cheaply and is light in weight.

The filter element according to the invention is characterized in that the first cover plate on the inflow side has a practically flat outer surface and an inner side provided with first liquid communication channels, which channels are attached according to a first pattern which practically evenly distributes the inflowing liquid over the entire active surface of the filter layer, and which channels are connected to a number of inlet openings distributed at certain intervals over part of the surface of the first cover plate, which open onto the outside of this plate, - that the outflow-side second cover plate also has a practically flat outside and an inside provided with second liquid communication channels, which channels are connected to common channels according to a second pattern,

in order to absorb the liquid flowing out of the filter layer and to discharge it in a laminar flow, - that the second cover plate is provided with at least one drainage opening which opens onto the said outside of this plate and is connected to at least one of the collecting channels, - that at least one of the two cover plates is provided on their inside with pinch strips lying radially inside and outside the channel pattern, through which the filter layer arranged between the plates is pressed together in order to prevent a liquid flow into the edge areas of the layer, - that both cover plates in their edge area with parts of a Sealing arrangement are provided and connected to one another in a liquid-tight manner, and - that at least one of the cover plates is provided with centering means,

to enable the correct location of the filter element in a housing arrangement.

The cover plates of the filter element are expediently formed from plastic and welded to one another in their outer edge section. A preferred embodiment of the cover plates consists in that the pattern of the first liquid communication channels contains essentially radially oriented distribution channels, the axes of which coincide with the centers of the inlet openings, which are also arranged on essentially radial center lines, while the pattern of the second liquid communication channels contains liquid oriented essentially in the circumferential direction Receiving channels and is provided with substantially radially extending collecting channels.

So that the filter element can be replaced quickly and safely even by inexperienced persons after reaching a certain degree of soiling, the drain opening on the second cover plate is designed as an outlet nozzle with a calibrated surface, which can thus form one link of a plug connection. To facilitate the correct insertion of the filter elements according to the invention, it is expedient to design the mentioned centering means as a center hole with an axially oriented stop surface and / or as centering webs formed on one or both cover plates, the latter being intended to engage in centering recesses in a receiving housing.

An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is explained below with reference to the drawing. It shows:
1 shows a partial plan view of a filter element built as a circular disc, viewed on the outside of the cover plate on the inflow side,
FIG. 2 shows a partial plan view of the element according to FIG. 1, seen on the outflow side,
3 shows a cross section through the filter element according to FIG. 1,
4 shows a partial illustration of a channel pattern in the cover plate on the inflow side of the element according to FIG. 1, and
FIG. 5 shows an illustration, similar to FIG. 4, of a channel pattern in the discharge-side cover plate of the element according to FIG. 1.

1, 3, 4 and 5 show the essential components of a filter element according to the invention for processing liquids in plan and sectional representations, with the inflow-side cover plate 1 from FIG. 1 and the inflow-side cover plate 1 from the sectional illustration according to FIG 1 also the outflow-side cover plate 2 and the filter layer 3, and from FIGS. 4 and 5 each view representations of the liquid channels on the inside of the cover plates 1 and 2 are shown.

The structure of the filter layer is not specified in the present description; depending on the area of application, it is the subject of special publications.

The cover plate 1 on the inflow side, which is provided with a peripheral sealing and connecting edge 4, has a practically flat outer side 5 and an inner side with a channel pattern, which can be seen from FIG. This channel pattern is directed to liquid access holes 6 in the cover plate 1 and consists essentially of a number of recesses 7 in the plate, the width of which is little more than the diameter of the holes 6 and whose (radial) length is aligned with the number of holes 6 which open into the same channel 7. It goes without saying that there can also be cross connections between the individual radial channels, or that the channels 6 can be subdivided in the radial direction or provided with constrictions in order to enlarge the contact area for the opposite filter layer.

In Fig. 3, a part of a housing for the filter element is shown schematically, as far as this is necessary to explain the application and function of the element mentioned. This receiving housing consists essentially of a lower housing part 11, which has a schalenför shaped interior 12 which is divided by essentially radial partitions and stiffening walls 13 into a number of sec-gate-shaped chambers. At least one of these chambers is through a (not shown) supply line with the
Connected to the outside of the housing, via which the liquid to be filtered is fed to the inflow side of the filter element 3.

The partition and stiffening walls 13 preferably do not extend over their entire length to the surface of the filter element, but have a number of humps 14, between which connecting slots 15 remain open, over which a substantially even distribution of the inflowing liquid over the said inflow side of the Element takes place. The direction of flow is shown symbolically by the arrow # A #. For roughly centering the filter element in the lower housing part, an annular standing flange 16 is provided, which engages in a corresponding recess in the separating and stiffening webs 13 and can also be provided with means, not shown, which allow the element to be inserted only in certain positions relative to the lower housing part 11 .

If only a single relative position between the filter element and the lower housing part 11 is considered, then the pre-centering can also be carried out by a surface 17 in the center bore at least in one of the inflow or outflow-side cover plates 1, 2 (see FIG. 2 with respect to plate 2 ) take place, this flattening a (not shown) counter surface, for example on the hub 18 of the lower housing part would have to face.

With regard to the discharge-side cover plate 2, reference is made to FIGS. 2, 3 and 4. From FIGS. 2 and 3, an essentially planar outer surface can be seen, over which a drain nipple 19 with an average bore 20 protrudes.

In order to improve the sealing and centering properties, the surface of this drain nipple, including the bore 21 in the upper part of the housing, can be designed to be slightly conical.

Further details on this connection point are given later in connection with housing details.

According to FIG. 5, the inside of the outflow-side cover plate 2 has a pattern of collecting channels 22 and collecting channels 23, 23 ′, which feed the medium flowing off from the filter layer 3 to the collecting space 24 in the drain nipple 19 in a steady flow. The ratio between the width of a collecting channel 22 and the width of an adjacent support web 25 is selected so that on the one hand the largest possible drainage area results, but on the other hand a certain specific surface stress of the material of layer 3 is not exceeded in order to avoid damage caused by washing out or pressing out layer material to avoid.

So that there are no further entry and exit points for the medium to be filtered or filtered on the filter element described, apart from the liquid entry and exit points (bores 6 and nipple 19), the two cover plates 1 and 2 are provided with a number of means that are briefly described below.

In order to prevent liquid to be filtered from escaping into the peripheral and central edge area, circumferential pinch strips 26.1 and 26.2 in the form of roughly triangular ridges are provided on the inflow-side cover plate 1, which on the opposite outlet-side cover plate 2 each also have circumferential pinch strips 27.1 and 27.2, the diameters of the burrs being selected so that when the cover plates are assembled, it is not shear points but rather relatively wide layer material compression areas 28 in which the passage of liquid is very difficult. These compression areas 28 can additionally be supported in their function by clamping points (not shown) attached against the layer areas.

Welding points are provided as leak protection points in the central area at 29 and in the peripheral area at 30 and 31, through which the plates 1 and 2 are connected to one another in a liquid-tight manner. The peripheral connection point is designed at the same time as a centering area for aligning the upper and lower plate, the upper one being provided with a circumferential projection 32 which fits precisely into a groove 33 in the lower plate 1.

So that the plates 1 and 2, which are made of plastic, for example, do not have to absorb the entire pressure difference between the inflow and outflow side on the layer 3 during operation, they are supported against receiving housing parts, of which the lower designated 11 is already has been described. However, these housing parts do not form part of the present invention and can also be designed differently depending on the intended use of the filter element.

As already mentioned, the upper housing part 35 contains a receiving bore 21 which is provided in a mount 36 on the inside of the upper housing part 35. An O-ring seal 37 ensures a pressure-tight connection of the nipple 19 to the upper part of the housing, which also contains a drain hole 38 and stiffening and supporting webs 39 which are provided with cusps 40 which rest against the outer surface of the plate 2. The housing parts 11 and 35 are tightened against each other by means of a screw connection 41 shown schematically and have sealing sections in the central area at 42 and in the peripheral area at 43, which prevent leakage fluid from escaping under normal operating conditions.
