Abstract

The device for detecting when wear in a brake lining (2) has reached its maximum permissible value comprises an electrical contact (6) embedded in the lining and connected to a brake shoe (1) via insulation. When the lining has worn to the extent that the brake drum (4) contacts the electrical contact an electrical circuit is completed via the earthed brake drum and a warning lamp (7) is illuminated. Alternatively the warning may be acoustic but triggered by a similar circuit. The electrical contact (6) can be a rivet which is suitably insulated from the brake jaw.
