Abstract

The vegetable-growing system uses ground which is bared of humus, after which a gravel bed is laid on it. A bed of sand or sour lime is laid on the gravel bed, and tubes are placed on this bed. The tubes are filled with compost and peat mixed with clay, and the spaces between them with crushed gravel. The bared ground can be first sterilised, and the gravel sifted. The tube height and diameter can be between 10 and 50 cm, and 10 and 80 cm, respectively, and the material for filling the tubes can also be previously sterilised.

Description

The present invention relates to a method for cultivating plants and an installation for implementing this method.

A method of cultivating plants is known, in which a device in the form of a cup is used, the bottom of which is formed of a removable shutter, said bottom being orientable upwards and downwards and its side wall constituting, with that of the bucket, capillary spaces that allow moistening of the soil from below.

Currently, the cultivation of plants is done in containers.

However, this way of doing things has drawbacks: it is generally done in peat and this support is too weak, which makes it necessary, for example, to support a tree for too long a period; the cultivator is a slave to watering, since the plant is not in contact with the soil and its moisture.

The object of the present invention is to combine the advantages of cultivation in open ground with those of cultivation in containers. The process which is the subject of it is characterized in that the land is freed of its topsoil, in that a bed of gravel is formed on the ground stripped of the topsoil, in that a bed is deposited of sand or silt on the bed of gravel, in that one places tubes on the bed of sand or of silt, and in that one fills, on the one hand, the tubes of peat and peat mixed with clay and topsoil and, on the other hand, the spaces between the tubes and the paths with crushed gravel.

The single figure of the appended drawing represents, by way of example and in section, an installation for implementing the method.

The process will be explained below according to the sequence of operations carried out: a) the land intended for the cultivation of plants is first
cleared up to 1 of its topsoil. It is advisable to
sterilize the stripped ground in the case of weeds to
taproots; b) a caisson, as an underlay, of about 30 cm is prepared, of
so as to allow a bed of general gravel to be placed 2
which is cylinder. This all-round gravel bed 2 aims
to prevent weed growth, but this bed has
especially for the function of allowing the exchange of humidity,
as well as drainage; c) on the general gravel bed 2, a new bed of
sand or silt 3, about 10 cm.

  This bed aims to
allow the exchange of moisture and mainly to prevent
expensive roots of cultivated plants to descend to the
low, the latter stopping at the level of sand or silt
3; d) on bed 3, there are tubes 4, for example made of cement
or in other materials, in which the
culture. The height of the tubes 4 varies from 10 to 50 cm and their
diameter from 10 to 80 cm, depending on the size of the plants
cultivate; e) between tubes 4, fill in the spaces and paths
with fine broken gravel 5, to allow rainwater
and sprinkler from penetrating the soil, not only by
 tubes.

This also for the sake of cleanliness: when filling
tubes and removal of plants can be eliminated
immediately the elements of earth fallen out of the tubes
4; f) after choosing the height and diameter of tube 4 in
depending on the plant to be cultivated, the filling is carried out
of the latter with a compost and peat well com
posted, mixed with clay or topsoil, all
 previously sterilized.

This mixture should not be too much
heavy nor too light, especially avoiding using only
peat, and bearing in mind that the plant thus
treated must be able to flourish subsequently in the ground,
without being obliged to guard it throughout one's life,
because its support is too weak, as in the
cultures in containers; g) depending on the size of the plant, there is no difficulty in
stake in its tube 4 with a metal stake (no
 represented).

The cultivation of a plant can be done from its first transplanting until its maturity, passing through tubes of different sizes. The plant, after reaching the desired size, is removed from its tube by peeling off the edges with a blade, the underside being free, given the presence of the bed of sand or silt 3. The empty tubes are ready to receive new plants.

The investment costs are quickly reimbursed by the low maintenance and the continuous use of the installation.
