Fig. 2 eine Seitenansicht,
Fig. 4 eine vervollständigte Teil-Vorderansicht des Gerätes und
The invention relates to a repair device for re-gluing inadequately glued book block covers for catalogs, magazines or the like, in which a hot-melt adhesive bead applied to the book spine between the outer sheets of the book block and the cover running around the book block to form a U- Profile is pressed.
Due to small irregularities during production, there are always certain copies where the book block is glued exactly, but the spine and side gluing is inadequate.
Until now, the covers of these booklets had to be torn off and replaced with new ones. That meant a loss of time and material: you first had to tear off the covers from the incorrectly glued book blocks, add a new cover and reinsert the booklet into the production run in order to properly glue the cover.
The invention is based on the object of creating a repair device that is separate from the individual stations of an automatic production line, with which copies recognized as faulty glued can be repaired as quickly as possible without the ongoing production process having to be disrupted and without being forced to glue a faulty one Remove the envelope and replace it with a new one.
To solve this problem, in a repair device for re-gluing poorly glued book block covers for catalogs, magazines or the like, in which a hot melt adhesive bead applied to the book spine between the outer sheets of the book block and the cover running around the book spine to a U encompassing the book spine -Profile is pressed, according to the invention, the arrangement is such that the device, which is designed as a mobile table, has a controllably heated pressing device serving to place the spine of the book
Base plate and side plates movable relative to one another, for placing on the lateral edge areas of the book cover.
The arrangement is preferably made such that only the base plate is heated and the side plates are in heat exchange with the base plate through contact.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention it is provided that one side plate is firmly seated on the base plate of the table and the other side plate is arranged on a carrier which can be adjusted by means of a screw to adapt to different book block thicknesses relative to the table and also a drive device for the Closing movement of the side plate connected to it carries.
Furthermore, a preferred embodiment of the invention has a foot switch built on the table for actuating a compressed air drive for the movable side plate and actuators arranged in the hand area for the
Adjustment of the fixed side plate to the respective
Book block thickness and for regulating the heating current.
The side plates are expediently covered by a removable protective grille.
With the invention, the automatic
Incorrect copies with poor gluing are quickly and easily repaired and continue to run as full copies. The described repair device can be set to the desired spine thickness and the required heating level at the beginning of the production process, and if a book is not exactly bound, you only need that
Place the spine on the heated base plate and the
To operate the foot switch. The book block with the cover is then firmly enclosed in the edge area, so that the glue is reactivated by the heating and an even gluing and an even distribution of glue take place.
This process is already completed after 3-6 seconds and the repaired book can then be forwarded.
The following is a description of an embodiment of the invention with reference to the drawings. Show it:
Fig. 1 is a front view of the device from the operating side,
Fig. 2 is a side view,
3 shows a top view of the device with the protective grille removed and components drawn in dashed lines that lie under the table surface,
Fig. 4 is a completed partial front view of the device and
5 shows a plan view of the device with the protective grille partially broken open.
In FIGS. 1 and 2, the repair device can be seen from the operator side and from the side with the book block 1 to be repaired. The book block 1 has, in the manner indicated in FIG. 2, a bead of adhesive or glue on the back, which is not just the The entire spine is covered with an adhesive layer that holds the sheets together, but also wraps around the side edges of the book block in a manner not shown in detail here, so that a cover sheet running around the book block like a book cover is not only attached to the book spine , but also in an edge zone, for example 7 mm wide, which extends on both sides of the book block over its entire height. Such covers are widely used in magazines, catalogs and such publications.
The repair device has a mobile table with a table top 5 and a mobile underframe 7. In the table top 5 a pressing device 9 is embedded, which in the manner best shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 consists of a base plate 11, a movable, wide side plate 13 and a narrower side plate 15 consists. The side plates 13 and 15 form between them a gap 17 of sufficient width to accommodate a book block 1. The side plates are tapered in the direction of the book block and form narrow pressed edges, intended to attack the book block, of the width of the area of the book block to be provided with the side gluing.
The narrow side plate 15 sits firmly on the base plate 11 and thus the table top 5. The wide side plate 13, on the other hand, is movable with respect to the base plate 11 in the manner indicated by the arrow 19 in FIG. 2 and is supported by the mobile table by means of a to below the Support 21 extending to the table top carried, which is adjustable by means of a screw 23 on the table to adjust the width of the gap 17.
In addition to the mobility of the carrier 21 with the wide side plate 13 given by the screw 23, the latter is also movable with respect to the carrier 21. For this purpose, the side plate 13 is attached to its support 21 by means of elongated holes of the type shown at 25 and pins 27. In this case, pneumatic cylinders 29 and 31 are installed between the carrier 21 and the side plate 13, in a manner only indicated schematically here, under the table top, in order to evenly move the wide side plate 13 in the closing direction of the gap 17 for pressing a book spine between the side plates 15 and 13.
The screw 23 can be used to make a presetting that allows a book to be repaired to be inserted into the gap 17, while the pneumatic cylinders 29 and 31 form drive devices for clamping the book spine in the pressing device formed by the side plates 13 and 15. 4 shows schematically a compressed air supply line 33 for one of the pneumatic cylinders. The compressed air is supplied in the usual way via a pressure reducer and oil separator 35, and a foot switch 37 (FIG. 2) is attached to the base of the mobile table to switch it on and off.
The base plate 11 of the pressing device is equipped with an adjustable electrical heater. A thermostat 39 attached to the table in the hand area serves to regulate this heating. An on / off switch 41 is attached next to it.
Since the two side plates 13 and 15 are in heat exchange with the base plate 11, it is sufficient to provide heating only for the base plate.
The hot parts lying outside the gap intended to receive the book spine 17 are provided with insulation and protective grids of the type indicated at 43 and 45 in FIG.
The line connections for the electrical heating current and the supplied compressed air have been omitted to improve the clarity of the drawings.
The repair device works as follows:
The side pressure is set to the book block thickness and the heating unit is brought to the required heating strength.
Now the book that is not exactly bound is inserted into the opened pressing device, whereby the staple spine must rest on the heated base plate. Now the foot lever is actuated so that the side plates serving as press jaws close and can compress the book block. This is then firmly enclosed on three sides: in the back over the entire surface, on the sides in the width of the side gluing, for example 6-7 mm, but over the entire format height.
Heating reactivates the hot melt glue. The desired U-shaped bracket is formed once and the envelope is firmly connected to the block. In addition, the previously uneven glue application is leveled out by pressing on three sides.
After a period of approx. 36 seconds, the same foot lever is operated again so that the lateral pressing can be unlocked.
