Abstract

The method makes it possible to make highly porous rods without the fibres of the porous rod becoming stuck together in certain areas as a result of the adhesion created by the resin in which they are steeped once it has cured. The method is as follows: continuous or discontinuous fibres are steeped in precise quantities of solvent-diluted resins; the fibres, resins and solvent are passed through a die which compresses the fibres and expels the excess resin; the fibres are allowed to expand as they emerge from the die; the solvent is evaporated off; heat is applied in order to polymerise the resin and create the capillary channels (2), the cross section of each of which corresponds to an irregular polygon with sides (1'') which need not be straight and at whose corners are the fibres (1') while the sides are formed by the resin. <IMAGE>
