Abstract
The novel stilbene compounds have the formula below <IMAGE> in which X is oxygen or sulphur, M is hydrogen or a salt-forming cation, D is a benzene, diphenyl or naphthalene radical which, if desired, is substituted by a non-chromophore and in which rings A, B and C may contain non-chromophoric substituents, it being possible for two adjacent substituents on ring A to provide the supplement for completing a naphthalene radical which, if desired, is substituted by a non-chromophore. The materials to be subjected to fluorescent brightening are in particular cellulose and polyamide fibres.
