Abstract

The pulverulent thermoplastic which is wiped into the cell-shaped depressions in an engraved, water-cooled application roll (4) is transferred to the textile web (1) to be coated. This textile web is, in the preheated state, allowed to run onto the application roll (4) and is led around the latter in contact with the circumference thereof. During the process the textile web is treated along a part of the circumference of the application roll externally with infrared rays from infrared radiators (6a, 6b, 6c). This heat treatment, which can take place in a plurality of stages, leads to heating up of the textile web regions lying on the roll circumference and has the effect that the pulverulent thermoplastic contained in the cell-shaped depressions in the application roll circumference is incipiently sintered on the textile web without sticking in the aforementioned depressions. Plastic powder residues which have remained in the cell-shaped depressions can be sucked off directly upstream of the powder application station. The textile web travelling away from the application roll is finally subjected to a further heat treatment for post-sintering the incipiently sintered plastic (post-sintering station 9). The process makes possible the powder-coating of heat-sensitive textile webs and permits a high operating speed. <IMAGE>
