Description
Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Färben von künstlichen Textilfasern in der Masse bzw. zum Färben von nicht textilen, hochmolekularen, organischen Materialien mit neuen N aphthacenchinonderivaten.
Bisher sind Naphthacenchinonderivate selten als Farbstoffe verwendet worden. Im Journal of the Chemical Society, Vol. 91,411-435 (1907) wird ein Verfahren zum Färben von Wolle mittels sulfonierten Naphthacenchinonderivaten beschrieben; die Struktur des Derivats wird jedoch nicht angegeben. Im Colour Index, 2. Auflage (1956) und in den «Supplements», herausgegeben von der Society of Dyers & Colourists und der American Association of Textile Chemists and Colourists, wie auch in «The Chemistry Synthetic Dyes», Vol. I & II (1952) und Vol. III (1970) von K. Venkataramann, sind die Derivate nicht beschrieben. Daraus kann gefolgert werden, dass diese neuen Naphthacenchinonderivate nicht als Farbstoffe 55 gehandelt wurden. Überraschenderweise wurde nunmehr gefunden, dass die neuen Naphthacenchinonderivate der Formeln (I) und (III), welche weiter unten definiert werden, synthetische, organische, hochmolekulare Materialien in leuchtenden Farbtönen und mit charakteristischer Fluoreszenz und hoher 60 Sublimationsbeständigkeit färben.
In einer nicht vorveröffentlichten DT-OS Nr. 2 337 855 ist die Verwendung einiger Naphthacenchinonderivate als Farbstoffe zum Färben von organischen Materialien beschrieben. Die neuen Verbindungen der vorliegenden Erfindung haben es gegenüber den Verbindungen der genannten DT-OS den unerwarteten Vorteil der um 1 bis 2 Grad besseren Sublimationsechtheit von gelbroten Färbungen, wie in der folgenden Tabelle dargestellt ist:

Ein weiterer Vorteil der vorliegenden Erfindung ist die Tatsache, dass zur Herstellung der neuen Naphthacenchinonderivate kein Quecksilber verwendet v/erden muss, im Gegensatz zur Herstellung von a-Aminoanthrachinon, wo Quecksilber als Katalysator bei der Sulfonierung des Anthrachinons eingesetzt wird. Die Verwendung von Quecksilber kann aber zu schweren
3o ökologischen Störungen führen. Die vorliegende Erfindung ist daher von grosser industrieller Bedeutung.

Das erfindungsgemässe Verfahren kann vorzugsweise zum Färben von synthetischen oder halbsynthetischen, hochmolekularen Verbindungen verwendet werden. Diese Verbindungen 60 können praktisch als Filme, Anstrichfarben, Lacke, Extrudate, Pressteile oder Gussstücke vorliegen. Das erfindungsgemässe Verfahren eignet sich vorzugsweise zum Färben von synthetischen oder halbsynthetischen Harzen, insbesondere Aminofor-maldehydharz, beispielsweise Harnstofformaldehyd- oder 65 Melaminformaldehyd-Harz, Polymere und Copolymere von Methacrylsäureestern, Polymere und Copolymere von Vinyl-chlorid, Polymere und Copolymere von Vinylidenchlorid, Polymere und Copolymere von Olefinen, beispielsweise Polyäthylen und Polypropylen, Styrolpolymere und -copolymere, Polyamidharze, Polyesterharze, Polyacrylharze, Polyacetalharze, Phenolharze, Alkydharze, Epoxyh'arze, Celluloseacetatharze, Nitrocelluloseharze und Äthylcelluloseharze.
Die erfindungsgemäss verwendeten Verbindungen der Formel I können analog dem im Journal of the Chemical Society, Band 91, S. 416-417 beschriebenen Verfahren hergestellt werden. Beispielsweise kann eine Verbindung der Formel (II), die durch eine Carboxylgruppe substituiert ist, nach dem folgenden Reaktionsschema hergestellt werden.

Die in der Verbindung enthaltene Carboxylgruppe kann nach üblichen Methoden in die Salzform übergeführt werden; sie kann auch, beispielsweise durch Erhitzen mit Alkoholen in Gegenwart von Schwefelsäure, verestert werden. Auf diese Weise können'beispielsweise Verbindungen mit einer Carbonsäuresalzgruppe oder eine Estergruppe im Molekül erhalten werden, z. B. die folgenden: Ba-6-Hydroxynaphthacen-5,12-chinon-2- oder -3-carboxylat (Verb. Nr. 29 in Tabelle 1), n-Butyl-6-hydroxynaphthacen-5,12-chinon-2- oder -3-carboxylat (Verb. Nr. 3; Fp. 131-133 °C), Phenäthyl-6-hydroxynaphthacen-5,12-chinon-2-oder-3-carboxylat (Verb. Nr. 6; Fp. 162,5-163,5 °C), n-Butyl-6-amino-l l-hydroxynaphthacen-5,12-chinon-2- oder -3-carboxylat (Verb. Nr. 21 ; Fp. 155-157 °C), Methoxyäthyl-6-amino-1 l-hydroxynaphthacen-5,12-chinon-2- oder -3-carboxylat (Verb. Nr. 22; Fp. 181-183 °C). Alkohole, die bei der Veresterung verwendet werden können, sind beispielsweise gesättigte, aliphatische Alkohole, vorzugsweise Methanol, Äthanol, n-Pro-panol, i-Butanol, n-Butanol, i-Amylalkohol, n-Hexanol, Cyclohe-
xanol oder 2-Äthylhexanol, ungesättigte Alkohole, wie beispielsweise Allylalkohol oder Crotonylalkohol, sauerstoffhaltige Alkohole, wie beispielsweise Tetrahydrofurfurylalkohol, 35 «Methylcellosolve», «Butylcellosolve» oder 3-Methoxy-l-pro-panol oder phenylierte Alkohole, wie beispielsweise Benzylal-kohol oder Phenäthylalkohol.
Die Carboxyamidgruppe der genannten Verbindung leitet sich von der Estergruppe ab und kann entweder durch Umset-40 zung der Estergruppe mit Aminen oder durch Umsetzung des Säurechlorids der Carbonsäuregruppe mit Aminen erhalten werden. Auf diese Weise können Verbindungen mit der Carboxyamidgruppe im Molekül erhalten werden, wie beispielsweise 6-Amino-l l-hydroxynaphthacen-5,12-chinon-2- oder -3-carbani-45 lid (Verb. Nr. 24; Fp. > 300 °C).
Wenn bei der oben beschriebenen Amidierung die richtigen Diamine eingesetzt werden, wird das Amid der Formel III mit hohem Schmelzpunkt, geringer Löslichkeit in Lösungsmitteln und guten Pigmenteigenschaften erhalten:

worin Ri und R3 Wasserstoff, Chlor, Hydroxyl oder Amino und X die Hydrazo- oder aromatische Diaminogruppe (-NH-Ar-NH-) bedeuten, wobei Ri, Rs und -CO-X-CO- an beliebigen Stellen der Ringe stehen können. Die Amidierung unter Verwendung der Diamine wird vorzugsweise in Gegenwart eines inerten Lösungsmittels mit hohem Siedepunkt durchgeführt, beispielsweise in Gegenwart von o-Dichlorbenzol, Trichlorben-zol oder Nitrobenzol.
Amine oder Diamine, die vorzugsweise zur Herstellung der erfindungsgemäss verwendeten Verbindungen eingesetzt werden können, sind u. a. Ammoniak, Hydrazin, aliphatische primäre oder sekundäre Amine, wie beispielsweise Methylamin, Dimethylamin, Butylamin, Dibutylamin, Hexylamin, Octylamin oder Cyclohexylamin, substituierte aliphatische Amine, wie beispielsweise y-Methoxyprophylamin, y-Diäthylaminopropyl-amin, ß-Cyanoäthylamin oder Benzylamin, cyclische sekundäre Amine, wie beispielsweise Piperidin, Morpholin oder Dimethyl-morpholin, aromatische Amine, wie beispielsweise Anilin; Methylanilin, Toluidin, Xylidin, Chloranilin, Anisidin, Phenetidin oder Naphthylamin oder aromatische Diamine, wie beispielsweise Paramin, Chlorparamin, Methoxychlorparamin, m-Tolui-lendiamin, p-Xylylendiamin, 1,5-Naphthylendiamin, Benzidin, Dichlorbenzidin, Tolidin, Dianisidin, Diaminodiphenylmethan, 5 Diaminodiphenyläther, Diaminodiphenylsulfon, Diaminodiphe-nylsulfid, p,p'-Diamino-a,a'-diphenylcyclohexan, Diaminofluo-ren, Diaminodibenzofuran, Diaminodibenzothiophendioxid, Diaminoacridin, Benzoguanamin, Diaminodophenylpropan, Diaminoazobenzol, Diaminostilben oder 2,7-Diaminoanthra-10 chinon.
Verbindungen der Formel I, die eine Sulfonatgruppe oder eine Sulfonamidgruppe im Molekül haben, können durch Veresterung oder Amidierung im Anschluss an die Chlorsulfonie-rung der Naphthacenchinone mit Chlorsulfonsäure hergestellt 15 werden. Für die Herstellung von Verbindungen der Formel I, die ausser der Sulfonatgruppe oder der Sulfonamidgruppe einen besonderen Substituenten aufweisen, können zahlreiche alternative Routen angewendet werden, beispielsweise eine der folgenden:

worin X ein Phenol- oder Aminrest ist. So können beispielsweise 6-Hydroxynaphthacen-5,12-chinon-l 1-sulfophenylester (Verb. Nr. 11 ; Fp. 225-227 °C) oder 6-Hydroxynaphthacen-5,12-chinon-11-sulfoäthylamid (Verbindung Nr. 15; Fp. 220-222 °C) erhalten werden. Die Phenole, die durch Umsetzung mit dem Sulfochlorid die Phenylester ergeben, sind beispielsweise Phenol, Kresol, Chlorphenol oder Xylenol; als Amine, welche die Sulfonamide ergeben, können beispielsweise die oben zur Synthese der Carboxyamide beschriebenen Amine" verwendet werden.
In Tabelle I sind charakteristische Beispiele für erfindungsgemäss verwendete Verbindungen angegeben, obwohl die vor-40 liegende Erfindung nicht auf diese Verbindungen beschränkt ist. Bei den Verbindungen Nr. 1-26 ist der Farbton in Polyvinylchlorid angegeben, das unter Verwendung einer Färbemethode, wie sie im Beispiel 1 beschrieben ist, gefärbt wurde. Bei den Verbindungen Nr. 27-35 ist der Farbton des Pigments 45 angegeben.

Organische Materialien können nach beliebigen in der Praxis üblichen Verfahren leicht mit den Verbindungen der Formel I gefärbt werden. Beispielsweise können gefärbte organische 25 Materialien in Form eines Filmes, eines Überzugs oder eines gegossenen, gepressten oder extrudierten Artikels hergestellt werden, indem die Verbindungen der Formel I vor oder während der Formgebung des organischen Materials diesem zugesetzt und mit ihm vermischt werden.
Die Verbindungen der Formel I, die Pigmenteigenschaften haben, werden vorzugsweise in fein pulverisiertem Zustand verwendet; dies kann insbesondere durch Säureanteigen oder -vermählen (acid pasting or milling) in organischen Lösungsmitteln erreicht werden. Zur Herstellung eines Pigments mit ausgezeichneten Eigenschaften ist es vorteilhaft, während der Pulverisierung ein Überzugsmittel, vorzugsweise Calcium- oder Magnesiumstearat zuzusetzen. Aus den Verbindungen der Formel I kann auch nach üblichen Verfahren ein Pigment auf Harzbasis erhalten werden. 40
Im folgenden werden an Hand von Beispielen bevorzugte Ausführungsformen der Erfindung näher erläutert. Alle Angaben in «Teilen» sind - wenn nicht anders angegeben -Gewichtsangaben. Die Nummern, die bei den Verbindungsnamen stehen, beziehen sich auf die Angaben in Tabelle I. 45
Beispiel 1
Eine gleichförmige Mischung, die 0,1 Teil 6-Amino-ll-hydroxynaphthacen-5,12-chinon-2- oder -3-carboxyanilid (Verbindung Nr. 23), 50 Teile Polyvinylchlorid und 50 Teile Dioc- so tylphthalat enthielt, wurde 10 Minuten lang bei 150 °C geknetet und dann 5 Minuten lang zwischen 160 °C heissen Metallplatten gepresst, so dass eine Folie von etwa 0,5 mm Dicke erhalten wurde. Die erhaltene Folie zeigte eine violettrote Farbe mit guter Wanderungsfestigkeit. 55
Beispiel 2
Eine gleichförmige Mischung, die 0,01 Teil Phenyl-6-hydro-xynaphthacen-5,12-chinon-l l-sulfonat (Verbindung Nr. 11) und 10 Teile Polystyrol enthielt, wurde mehrere Minuten bei 180 °C 60 geknetet und dann zu einer Scheibe von 5 mm Dicke gepresst. Die so erhaltene Scheibe zeigte eine klare gelbe Färbung mit Fluoreszenz.
Beispiel 3
20 Teile unmodifiziertes Melaminformaldehydharz wurden 50 Teilen eines bei 120 °C geschmolzenen Sulfonamidharzes zugemischt. Die erhaltene Mischung wurde auf 170 bis 180 °C

erhitzt, und in diese Mischung wurde 1 Teil 6-Hydroxy-l 1-ami-nonaphthacen-5,12-chinon-2- oder -3-carbonsäure (Verbindung Nr.' 18) eingearbeitet. Die Mischung wurde vollständig gelöst, dann abgekühlt, verfestigt und dann zu einem violettroten Fluoreszenzpigment mit roter Fluoreszenz verkleinert.
Beispiel 4
Ca-6-Amino-l l-hydroxynaphthacen-5,12-chinon-2- oder -3-carboxylat (Verbindung Nr. 27) wurde durch längere Zeit dauerndes Vermählen in Äthanol fein pulverisiert, getrocknet und mit der gleichen Menge an Calciumstearat vermischt. Ein Teil des erhaltenen Pigments wurde mit 200 Teilen Polypropylen und einer kleinen Menge 2,6-di-tert.-Butyl-4-cresol bei 230 °C geknetet, bis eine gleichförmige Mischung erhalten wurde. Die Mischung wurde dann in eine auf 260 °C erhitzte Form gegossen, wodurch ein Formkörper erhalten wurde, der eine klare und stabile rote Farbe aufwies. Ähnlich gefärbte Formteile wurden in ähnlicher Weise mit der Verbindung Nr. 34 erhalten.
Beispiel 5
Bis-(6-hydroxynaphthacen-5,12-chinon-2- oder -3-carboxa)-0,0'-dichlorbenzidid (Verbindung Nr. 29) wurde in konzentrierter Schwefelsäure gelöst, und die schwefelsaure Lösung wurde in Eiswasser gegossen. Der Niederschlag wurde abfiltriert, mit Wasser gewaschen und getrocknet. Der getrocknete Niederschlag wurde mit der gleichen Menge an Calciumstearat vermischt und ergab ein gelbes Pigment. Das Färben von Lack oder Anstreichfarbe (storing warnish or paint) mit diesem Pigment ergab einen gelben Film mit guter Lichtechtheit.
Beispiel 6
0,2 Teile eines feinen Pulvers von Bis-(6-hydroxy-l 1-amino-naphthacen-5,12-chinon-2- oder -3-)-0,0'-dichlorbenzidid (Verbindung Nr. 33) wurden zu einer Mischung von 100 Teilen Dimethylterephthalat, 62 Teilen Äthylenglykol, 0,015 Teilen Zinkacetat und 0,02 Teilen Antimontrioxid zugesetzt und 4 Stunden lang unter Luftabschluss auf 220 °C erhitzt, wobei das sich bildende Methanol abdestillierte. Ein Teil Titandioxyd, suspendiert in einem Teil Äthylenglykol, wurde zu der Reaktionsmischung gegeben, und das Erhitzen wurde 4 Stunden lang fortgesetzt. Nach Beendigung der Umsetzung wurde die Reaktionsmischung zur Vervollständigung der Kondensationspolymerisation auf 275 °C erhitzt. Das so erhaltene Polymer wurde zu einem Faden mit klarer roter Farbe extrudiert.
