Abstract

An electronic timepiece comprises a stepping motor driven by alternating square wave pulses, and a detector circuit for detecting the non-rotation condition of the rotor. The detector circuit is responsive to motor load current and looks for the presence of points A, B or C in the load current waveform curve 3 Fig. 1 which indicates normal rotatable condition. If the rotor has missed a step or the load is excessive such that these points are not detected, the load current being as waveforms curves 1, 2 Fig. 1, the detector circuit output is used to progressively adjust drive pulse duration accordingly as in Fig. 7 arrangement, or to make up for lost steps as in Fig. 6 arrangement. The detector circuit comprises an amplifier 24 including MOS transistors 1, 2 (eg as in Fig. 2) and a capacitor 3. Voltage applied to the amplifier is proportional to and has the same waveform as the motor drive current. <IMAGE>
