Fig. 1 zeigt schematisch in einem vertikalen Längsschnitt einen Ausschnitt aus einem mehrstufigen Radialverdichter;
Fig. 2 ist in einem grösseren Massstab ein Detail, das in gleicher Darstellung den Bereich eines Laufrad-Austritts einer Verdichterstufe wiedergibt;
Fig. 3 stellt im Schnitt III-III von Fig. 2 eine Abwicklung über einen Teil eines Laufradumfangs dar;
Fig. 4 ist in gleicher Darstellung eine Ausführungsvariante von Fig. 3;

The invention relates to a method and a device for reducing the axial thrust of turbomachines, such as compressors, pumps and turbines, in which surfaces extending in the radial direction rotate in gaseous or liquid media and flow spaces of different pressure levels are separated from one another by non-contact seals.
Rotors of the type of flow machines described above - in particular, but not exclusively, centrifugal pumps of radial and semi-axial design, radial compressors and turbines - in which individual wheels rotate in gaseous or liquid media, generate axial forces, the so-called axial thrust, as a result of the pressure fields surrounding them . Another effect of these pressure fields is that they cause radial flows in the gap spaces, which are delimited by a fixed and a rotating radial surface.
A number of measures are known to absorb the axial thrust, the size of which essentially depends on the geometry of the wheels, the level of the ambient pressure, the frictional forces and the type of flow medium. A small axial thrust is absorbed by the thrust bearing, for example, at low speeds without special relief measures. With multi-stage machines, there is the possibility of partial axial thrust compensation in the counterflow arrangement of wheels or blading. In pumps and compressors, however, the common way of reducing the axial thrust is to place a pressure compensation piston on the shaft; if this is provided after the last stage, it generates a force opposing the axial thrust.
Because inside it is exposed to the pressure of the last stage, while ambient pressure or the suction pressure is on the opposite side, provided there is a connection to the suction line.
However, such a compensating piston has the disadvantages that the amount of leakage in the non-contact seal surrounding the compensating piston is relatively large - which worsens the efficiency, particularly in machines with narrow wheels - and that the excitation forces emanating from the peripheral flow in the non-contact seal impair the stability of the rotor , and that finally the weight of the rotor is increased. It is therefore endeavored to achieve the necessary compensation of the axial thrust with compensation piston diameters as small as possible. In pursuit of this aim, the object of the invention is therefore to reduce the axial thrust with simple means.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the pressure field is changed in at least one gap space delimited by a stationary and a rotating radial surface between a non-contact seal and the flow space of the main flow; A device for carrying out this change is characterized in that in the area of at least one rotating, radially directed surface, the stator-side boundary of the gap space has means influencing the peripheral component of the flow.
Advantageously, the means - in particular in the case of multi-stage machines - can be provided in more than one gap, the gap currents being able to be directed both from the outside in and vice versa from the inside out. Furthermore, it is expedient to adapt the axial thrust to a predetermined value if the means have different radial distances from the shaft axis and / or different radial and axial dimensions, or if the means are additionally extended radially outward beyond the outside diameter of the associated rotating surfaces .
In the simplest case, the means for influencing the gap flow can consist in radial ribs or baffles, which are integral components of the stator or are attached to it. In addition, however, it is advantageous if the means are designed as flow-conducting guide plates, blades or vanes, as will be explained below.
The effect of the measures according to the invention, which can be clearly demonstrated experimentally, is simplified to clarify the following: The changes in the pressure field result as a result of the change in the circumferential component forced by the device, essentially in the gap spaces between a fixed and a moving one radial surface occurring gap flows, which can be directed inwards or outwards. On the front of an impeller, i.e. In the gap space facing the impeller inlet, the circumferential component of the gap flow prevailing there radially reduces the static pressure.
The redirection of the circumferential component of a reverse reverse flow from the inside to the outside of the impeller, as will be explained, ultimately results in a reduction of the flow there
prevailing pressure, which is a partial amount of the axial thrust to be reduced.
The circumferential components of the radial flows in the gap spaces mentioned, which are a consequence of the friction of the particles flowing in the radial direction against the stationary and the circumferential wall as well as the swirl introduced by the main flow - and thus the static pressures influenced by them and the forces caused by them change with the distance from the shaft axis. Therefore, if the circumferential component of the radial flow is suppressed, reduced or deflected from the outside inwards to a certain depth of the radial space by the means according to the invention, the pressure drop it causes in the gap space on the impeller front can be changed, i.e. canceled or reduced and so the static pressure in this gap, which counteracts the axial thrust, increased.
A simple suppression of the peripheral component is achieved, for example, by baffles running radially; however, it leads to a strong swirl, the energy of which is converted into heat loss. If, as mentioned, the baffles are designed as flow-guiding guide pieces, blades or vanes by simply inclining them and / or by shaping them in accordance with the flow, the energy of the suppressed portion of the peripheral component of the radial flow can be recovered in the form of an additional static pressure, which is the axial thrust is also opposed.
The change in the pressure fields according to the invention to achieve the above-described object is particularly effective in cavities in which a radial flow occurs from the outside inwards at the front of an impeller; however, it is also possible to achieve the desired effect by changing the pressure field on the back of one or more impellers - i.e. to achieve this by reducing the static pressure prevailing there with the aid of a partial deflection of the peripheral component on the wheel outer diameter.
The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments in conjunction with the drawing.
Fig. 1 shows schematically in a vertical longitudinal section a section of a multi-stage radial compressor;
Fig. 2 is a detail on a larger scale, which shows in the same representation the area of an impeller outlet of a compressor stage;
Fig. 3 shows in section III-III of Fig. 2 a development over part of an impeller circumference;
4 is an embodiment of FIG. 3 in the same representation;
Fig. 5 is the section V-V of Fig. 2, while
Fig. 6 shows the application of the invention in an axially bladed machine, e.g. a steam turbine, clarified.
On a shaft 1 of a multi-stage radial compressor, two impellers 2, 3 and a compensating piston 8 are arranged in FIG. 1; the disks with radial surfaces forming impellers 2, 3 rotate in cavities of a stator housing 4, only indicated, in which deflecting flow channels 5 connecting the stages of the compressor also run for guiding the main flow. Gaps 6 and 7 or 9 and 10 are present between the fixed surfaces of the stator 4 and the circumferential radial surfaces of the impellers 2, 3.
To seal flow or gap spaces at different pressure levels Pl-P5, between the rotor, i.e. the impellers 2 and 3, and the compensating piston 8 on the one hand and the stator on the other hand non-contact labyrinth seals 11, 12, 13 and 14 are provided.
Due to the pressure drop P2-Pl or P4-P3 between the inlet and outlet side of an impeller 2 or 3, and a pressure drop P3-P2 between the impeller inlet of a subsequent stage and the impeller outlet of the previous stage and because of the pressure gradient P4-P5 on both sides of the compensating piston 8 there are essentially radially running gap flows in the gap spaces 6 and 7 or 9 and 10, the flow direction of which is indicated by small arrows.
The radial gap flows have a flow component in the circumferential direction, which is caused by the rotation of the circumferential radial surfaces and the swirl introduced. The radial gap flow and in particular its circumferential components bring about a reduction in the static pressure prevailing in the gap spaces 6 and 7 or 9 and 10; the amount of this pressure drop depends on the size of the circumferential component of the radial flow. Is therefore over at least part of the radial extent of a gap 6 or
9 destroyed or directed the circumferential component on the front of a Lau fades 2 or 3 deflected, the pressure in these gap spaces 6 or 9 increases, which results in an opposing axial thrust, additional force.
For the destruction or deflection of the peripheral component of the radial gap flow, baffles 16 and 17 are therefore provided in the outer region of the gap spaces 6 and 9, which in the simplest case are baffle walls standing radially (FIG. 3). As FIG. 2 shows, these baffles 16 and 17 can consist of additional internals attached to the stator; but it is also possible that they are integral parts of the stator 4 itself. Furthermore, they can protrude radially from the impeller outlet and can be arranged in part in the generally adjoining diffuser 19.
Of course, it is also possible to provide these flow-influencing means in the radial gap space 6 or 9 further inside or to extend their radial extension inward in comparison with the examples shown.
If, as shown in Fig. 4, they are formed by an inclination in the circumferential direction as flow-guiding ribs - the arrow shown in Fig. 4 shows the direction of rotation of the impeller - or by a design as guide plates, blades or vanes, this does not only result from this a partial annihilation of the peripheral component of the radial flow, but its deflection. This deflection causes an additional static pressure, through which the effect sought with the invention is additionally increased.
Similar flow-changing configurations of the stator walls or internals 18 (FIGS. 2 and 5) are provided in the gap space 7 on the back of the impeller 2; The arrow shown in FIG. 5 in turn indicates the assumed direction of rotation of the associated impeller. The elements 18 form an additional measure that supports the described effect of the means 16.
In them, the peripheral component of the gap flow directed from the inside to the outside in the gap space 7 is again deflected; this causes an increase in the static pressure in the space of the gap 7 radially covered by the elements 18. Since the pressure at the end of the gap space 7 is fixed to the pressure value P2 (FIG. 1) at the impeller outlet, this pressure increase results due to the deflection of the peripheral component the gap flow that the pressure between the elements 18 and the labyrinth 12 decreases overall in the gap space 7, as a result of which the axial thrust is reduced.
In the axial flow machine according to FIG. 6, two stages are shown schematically; the rotor 21 here comprises the shaft 1 and the impeller disks 21 a with the blades 22, which are closed on the outside by a shroud 23.
Between the two impellers 21a, 22 of the rotor 21, guide vane rings 24 are provided which form partition walls 25 which extend inwards to the circumference of the shaft 1.
The gap between the shaft 1 and the partition walls 25 is sealed by a non-contact labyrinth seal 26. The main flow indicated by an arrow 32 runs in the flow channel 28, which is delimited by the stator 27 on the outside and the disks 21 a of the rotor 21 or the partition walls 25 on the inside and which widens from left to right in the example shown.
If the static pressure in front of a guide vane 24 is higher than at the outlet, i.e. For machines with a degree of reaction <1, in which the guide vane grids accelerate the flow medium, a radial longitudinal flow occurs in gap spaces 29 and 30 between the disks 21 a and the partition walls 25, around the partition walls 25, which is shown in FIG. 6 by small Arrows is indicated. As a result of the static pressure difference P29, P30, in addition to the thrust of the blades 22, the rotor 21 experiences a downstream thrust in the axial direction, which - as in the previous examples - can be reduced by changing the pressure fields in the gap spaces 29 and 30.
The change in the pressure fields is in turn brought about by baffles 31, which are provided as baffles that deflect or deflect the radial gap flow — opposite the impeller disks 21 on the partition walls 25 in the outer region of the radial surfaces. The effect of the internals 31 is the same as in the previous examples; the static pressure in the gap 29 is thus increased by the measures according to the invention, while that in the gap 30 is reduced.
