Abstract
Increasing the dyeing yield and wet fastness of dyeing or prints produced with anionic dyestuffs on cellulose fibre material involves treatment with a cationic fibre-reactive cpd. (I), which is the reaction prod. of a 2-phenyl-imidazole (II) and an epihalohydrin (III), before during or after dyeing or after printing. Pref. (I) is an imidazolium salt of formula (IA): X1 and X2 independently = a glycidyl or -CH2-CH(OH)-CH2-Hal gp., esp. a chlorohydrin gp.; Hal = halogen; n = 1 or 2; Q = an anion of a strong (in)organic acid, esp. the chloride or sulphate iron; the imidazole ring A is unsubstd. in the 4- and/or 5-positions or substd. by lower alkyl, opt. substd. by halogen, OH or CN, pref. Et or esp. Me. USE/ADVANTAGE - This treatment is useful with staple rayon, viscose rayon, hemp, linen, jute and esp. cotton and mixts. e.g. of polyamide/cotton or esp. polyester/cotton, dyed with reactive and substantive dyestuffs. It greatly increases the wet fastness, without affecting the tear strength of the material.
