Domaine technique
Technical area
The present invention relates to a wristwatch provided with a new display device, which can be used to display a time indication.
State of the art
To display a temporal indication, the man first resorted to the shadow formed by a rod and moving next to a graduation as and when the displacement of the sun. Sand or liquid flows under gravity were then used in a small channel to indicate times and flows of time. Such solutions do not allow precise indication, in particular because of the absence of mechanical regulating organ.
In a timepiece, the most commonly used solution to indicate information is to use needles, driven by a watch movement with reference to a graduated dial. There is also known the use of disks bearing numerical indications and moving in a window or facing an index. Watchmakers have always sought to innovate in the field of displays, looking for often complicated solutions, as in particular in EP1 705 535 in which the time is indicated by a plurality of prisms pivoting about an axis and on them- same, so as to present in a display area, a face of one of the prisms on which is disposed the digit to be displayed.
The present invention aims to provide a wristwatch with a new type of particularly original display and can be adapted in a timepiece by means of a simple mechanism.
Disclosure of the invention
More specifically, the invention relates to a wristwatch provided with a display device for a time indication, comprising a hydraulic circuit comprising a first chamber whose volume can be modified by a first piston, and a second chamber closed at one of its ends and sealingly connected to the chamber, liquid flowing in the hydraulic circuit. According to the invention, the first piston is intended to be driven by a watch movement according to the time indication to be displayed, so that the liquid moves in said second chamber with reference to a graduation so as to display said time indication.
According to a first embodiment, the surface of the liquid in the second chamber defines an interface that serves as an index for displaying said indication with reference to the graduation. The interface defines a compression volume at the closed end of the second chamber, to maintain the liquid in the second chamber and ensuring a resilient return of the interface at a first end of the graduation.
Brief description of the drawings
Other features of the present invention will appear more clearly on reading the description which follows, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
<tb> - fig. 1 <sep> shows in perspective a display device according to the invention,
<tb> - fig. 2 <sep> represents a detail of this device, from a different perspective, and
<tb> - fig. 3 <sep> is an example of a timepiece implementing the display device according to the invention.
Mode (s) of realization of the invention
The basic principle of the display device according to the invention is to use the displacement of the surface of a liquid to achieve, directly or indirectly, the display. The figures show a preferred embodiment, given simply by way of non-limiting example.
The display device comprises a hydraulic circuit 10 having a first chamber 12, closed, whose volume can be modified by means of a first piston 14, mounted movably inside the chamber so as to adjust the volume of it. Preferably, for sealing, the chamber and the piston are of circular section. The hydraulic circuit 10 also comprises a second chamber, in the form of a tube 16 closed at a first of its ends 16a and connected, at its second end 16b, in a sealed manner to the chamber 12, advantageously via a flexible hose 18.
In the present description, the term tube must be considered to be of any section. This term refers more generally to any hollow three-dimensional volume within which a liquid can take place. The tube 16 may be rigid or flexible. Especially in the case where the tube 16 is flexible, the pipe 18 may not be used.
In the example shown in the drawing, an element 20 is movably mounted in the tube 16, hermetically, thereby defining the volume of the tube may be occupied by the liquid contained in the hydraulic circuit. An elastic member 22 is housed between the closed end of the tube, so as to exert on the movable member 20 a force tending to push it towards the second end 16a of the tube and thus tending to push the liquid towards the chamber 12. To ensure good sealing and good guiding of the movable member 20, the element 20 is adjusted by seals in the tube 16. The elastic member 22 is a coil spring whose diameter is as large as possible, without being in contact with the inner walls of the tube.
Thus, the force exerted by the spring on the element 20 stabilizes the latter, without putting it at an angle. To strengthen this guidance, one could have an axis between the movable element and the closed end of the tube, on which the spring would be mounted. In its movements, the axis could cross the end of the tube or, to optimize the space occupied, be mounted telescopically inside the tube.
The tube 16 is transparent or has at least one transparent window, so as to leave visible the movable member 20. The tube is provided with a graduation, corresponding to the information to be displayed and next to which moves the movable element, which serves as an index. The hydraulic circuit 10 being perfectly sealed, the movements of the first piston 14 will cause the liquid to move in the tube 16 and the compression of the elastic member 22. We will now describe how the displacement of the piston is controlled, so that that the displacement of the movable element with reference to the graduation makes it possible to display information.
The hydraulic circuit 10 described above is associated with a watch movement 24 of any type, mechanical or electromechanical. A frame, not shown in Figs. 1 and 2, allows to fix the movement 24 and also the hydraulic circuit 10. As shown particularly in FIG. 2, on this frame is also mounted a rocker 26 cooperating on the one hand with the first piston 14 and provided, on the other hand, with a probe 26a. For its connection with the first piston 14, the rocker 26 may, for example, be provided with an oblong 26b, in which takes place a lug 14a kinematically connected or integral with the axis of the piston. The probe 26a cooperates with a cam 28 also mounted on the frame and driven in rotation by the movement 24.
Typically, the cam 28 is of spiral type, with a gradual increase of its radius, to a radially oriented threshold 28a, where the radius returns to its minimum length. Thus, as the movement 24 drives the cam 28, the rocker 26 pivots gradually and then quickly returns to its initial position. The cam 28 can have several thresholds. Those skilled in the art will determine the shape of the cam 28 as a function of its driving speed, in relation to the time indication to be displayed. The skilled person may size the piston, the tube, the graduation and the cam, depending on the size of the timepiece and the display to be made.
The latch 26 and the piston 14 evolve between a first and a second extreme positions, defined by the radius of the cam 28 at the point of contact between the feeler and the cam. These two extreme positions correspond to the indication by the movable element 20 of the first and second ends of the scale used. For the return of the rocker to its first extreme position, where the probe 26a is in contact with a point of minimum radius of the cam, the elastic member 22 ensures that the probe 26a remains in abutment on the cam 28 and also facilitates the sliding of the movable element 20. Note that one could also have, in addition to or in place of the elastic member 22 located in the tube, a spring member acting at the first piston 14 or on the rocker 26 .
It can also be envisaged that, depending on the pressures and the forces involved, the compression of the gaseous volume situated between the closed end 16a of the tube and the mobile element 20 provides a sufficient force to allow the return of the piston and the rocker to their first extreme position.
With a tube 16 of suitable size, depending on the surface tension of the chosen liquid, it is possible not to use a movable member 20. The liquid does not flow freely in the tube 16 and its surface defines the index which moves with reference to the graduation, according to the position of the piston. Especially in this case, we will use a colored liquid and / or luminescent to facilitate the reading of the information.
In embodiments in which there is no elastic member on the side of the end 16a of the tube and where only the air, while relaxing, pushes the liquid, we can use a tube of form any.
Note also that one can play on section variations of the tube to vary the speed of displacement of the liquid with reference to the graduation which can be irregular.
To reduce the volume of displaced liquid, without prejudice to the size of the graduation, the tube 16 may be housed inside a second tube carrying the graduation. The graduation may also be arranged next to the first tube, the second tube may provide a magnifying effect facilitating the reading of the indication.
FIG. 3 provides an example of integration of the display device described above in a timepiece. In this figure, the timepiece comprises such a first device 30 intended to indicate the time of the current time, opposite a first graduation, and such a second device 32 intended to indicate the minute of the current time, opposite a second graduation.
The display system just described fits perfectly in a wristwatch. In particular, the display device proposed above is independent of the absolute position of the watch, which is particularly advantageous compared to certain devices of the state of the art offering displays with liquids. Thus, regardless of the orientation in the space of the tubes, the display does not undergo disturbance because of the orientation of the gravity, which therefore allows use in a wristwatch.
Naturally, those skilled in the art could adapt this display to any temporal size. It is also possible to envisage other embodiments in order to achieve the same technical result. In particular, the cam and the rocker could be replaced by a connecting rod system, driven by the clockwork movement, making it possible to return the liquid to the first end of the rapid graduation or not. The piston could also be actuated by a worm driven by a wheel rotatable in both directions. Those skilled in the art will be able to use, for example, a cam and feeler system such as that described above or such as those used in the retrograde systems to obtain the desired movement of the mobile.
The term piston must also be understood in the broad sense of the term, as a movable element ensuring the volume variation of the chamber. Thus, a deformable membrane for changing the volume of the chamber and moving the liquid in the chamber can be used.
