Sur la tige<I>a</I> coulissent deux bagues<I>d</I> et e, dont l'une porte une palette d' et l'autre, une pa lette e'. Ce dernier est attelé en c' au frein c, passe sur une poulie- guide supérieure g, puis dans la rainure a' et sur unie poulie-guide inférieure h, d'où le dit cordon passe à la bague e à laquelle il est fixé à, l'aide d'une vis de pression i. Le ressort l est fixé, d'une part, à l'oreille c' du frein c et, d'autre part, à l'oreille es de la bague e.
Le frein c, pivoté en<B>le</B> à, la même bague e, a une partie en lame de couteau c=, ex centrique par rapport<I>à</I> 1c et s'engageant dans la rainure a2 de la tige<I>a.</I> Le ressort<I>l</I> tend < < presser l'excentrique c=' contre le fond de la rainure a', niais lorsqu'on opère une trac- Lion sur le cordon b, elle tend à desserrer le dit ressort et la bague e peut se mouvoir alors librement le long de la tige a vers le haut.
Le cordon b peut être actionné à la main près du bras de la tige a, soit dans un sens soit dans l'autre, pour déplacer la bague e et par conséquent la palette el.
Pour employer l'appareil, on fixe donc tout d'abord la palette dl en un point de la tige a qui correspond à la hauteur de la tablette sur laquelle se trouve l'objet que l'on veut descendre; puis on place, en action nant le cordon b, la palette el à l'écartement voulu de celle cl' suivant la grosseur de l'ob jet à saisir et l'on peut serrer ladite palette el contre ledit objet, de façon à ce qu'il soit pincé entre les deux palettes pour être amené à soi en man#uvrant la tige a en conséquence.
La tige a peut être coudée, si l'on veut que sa partie portant les palettes el et dl soit horizontale, par exemple pour saisir des livres d'une bibliothèque.
L'appareil peut aussi consister en une pince à ressort disposée pour saisir les objets et pouvant être ouverte à l'aide du dispositif de tirage.
