Description

 La vapeur d'échappement de la locomotive est amenée par la conduite Xi et par le tuyau F dans le condenseur à mélange   A',    où elle se condense, en se mélangeant à l'eau qui a été refroidie sur le réfrigérant C' et qui, sous l'action du vide qui règne dans le   condenseur J/, y    est aspirée par le tuyau   U    qui prend naissance au fond du bac collec  tueur 19 ;

      Detftième for Ze d'e./eettio8 :

  Condensing steam engine, for traction.

The present description relates to a development of the invention which is the subject of Swiss Patent No. 80477 of July 16, 1919.

The appended drawing represents, by way of example and schematically, four embodiments. The first embodiment is shown in FIGS. 1 to 5, the second in fig. 6, the third in fig. 7 and the fourth in fig. 8.

      First form of execution:
Fig. 1 shows in section and in elevation a condensing water cooler, a mixing condenser and its vacuum pumps, installed on a special wagon; fig. 2 gives a cross section thereof, FIG. 3 is a plan section of the condenser and the mixing condenser, FIG. 4 a plan view of the servomotor and the vacuum pumps, and FIG. 5 shows on a larger scale the water distribution device and the refrigerant tubes.

In these figs. 1 to 5, L indicates the condensing water distributor pan, the tubing for watering the refrigerant tubes C. Ar is the condensation water collecting pan, A the condenser with mixture, 7 '' a pipe which is connected by an R line to the exhaust pipe of the locomotive and which brings the exhaust vapor into the mixture condenser.

It is the vacuum pump which evacuates the condensed vapor and the condensed water; it is connected to the mixing condenser by the suction line G 'and, on the other hand, to the distributor tank L by the lines I. B is a second vacuum pump, evacuating the air, H its suction line and 1 '' its discharge pipe in the open air. I is the condensation water injection pipe, R 'denotes a small pipe bringing into the pump B' the vapor which may have condensed in the communication pipe.

B, pipe that connects the locomotive to the condenser, 12 "is a water separator, D the servo-motor, <S'ladynamo, 0 horizontal and vertical louvers, the purpose of which is to prevent water entrainment and E is the fan intended to ensure the artificial draft.

The operating mode is as follows:
 The exhaust steam from the locomotive is brought through line Xi and through pipe F into the mixing condenser A ', where it condenses, mixing with the water which has been cooled on the refrigerant C' and which , under the action of the vacuum which prevails in the condenser J /, is sucked there by the pipe U which originates at the bottom of the collec killer tank 19;
At the top of the condenser A 'reigns the lowest temperature, since the cold condensed water enters through H at the top of the device. At the bottom of the condenser, on the other hand, the temperature is higher, since the condensed water has absorbed the latent heat of condensation of the vapor.

The suction of the condensed vapor and the condensed water which is carried out by the vacuum pump B 'and the pipe G'a, therefore, takes place in the hottest part of the condenser, while on the contrary the air that is sucked in by the air pump B at the top of the H-shaped condenser, has been forced to pass through the colder layers of the condensed water, so that its temperature is significantly lower than that of the condensed vapor .

Due to this intense cooling of the air, its partial pressure will be lowered, and hence the work of the air pump will become smaller. The evacuation of the condensation products takes place by two separate and independent pumps, namely, the air pump. B which evacuates and the vacuum pump B 'which removes the condensed vapor and the condensed water; this, in order to prevent the air from which, by the cooling process, part of the water vapor which it contained in suspension has been removed, cannot again, on meeting the condensed vapor, become saturated with water. water vapour ; which would have the consequence of increasing its partial pressure and, consequently, the work of the air pump B.

The water pump B 'pumps the condensed steam and the condensation water through the pipes I into the distributor tank L, from where it flows through the pipes M' into and onto the refrigerant pipes C '. These tubes are cut in a whistle in their lower part, so that the air current can brush them both inside and outside.

In order to use the internal and external cooling surface of the tubes C ', the tubes M'mitted with a flat bottom, are drilled axially and radially. Through the axial orifice, the water flows inside the tubes C ', while the radial orifices spray the outer walls of the neighboring refrigerant tubes.

The cooling of the water flowing inside and outside the refrigeration tubes C 'operates by its partial evaporation in contact with the air. The condensed exhaust vapor provides the water make-up intended to recover the losses due to this evaporation.

Under the influence of the vacuum which reigns in the condenser with metange, the chilled condensing water is again sucked in this apparatus by the injection tube J. This takes the water in a trough at the bottom of the collecting tank. 1X and it is fitted with a float designed to regulate the water flow and prevent the condenser from being deactivated.

The steam which may have condensed as it travels in line E which connects the engine cylinders of the locomotive to the mixture condenser does not go into the latter, but directly into the vacuum pump B '. For this purpose, the suction pipe G is connected to the exhaust steam pipe F by an auxiliary pipe Jus', in which is interposed the water separator R ", the task of which consists of not letting it penetrate into the vacuum pump only condensed steam and not saturated steam.

The vacuum pumps B and B "are operated by the servomotor D which is twinned with the dynamo S which supplies the energy necessary for the electric fan. E responsible for producing an artificial draft in the locomotive generator.

      Detftième for Ze by e. / Eettio8:
In the case of a water cooler mounted on a wagon whose direction of travel invariably remains the same, it is possible to cause air to circulate inside the coolant tubes C ', if these these are cut into a whistle at their base (fig. 1 and 5). This is no longer the same, if the direction of flow of the refrigerant is reversible.

In this case, the refrigerant tubes will be fitted (at their base with movable elbows C "shown in fig. 6. These elbows which carry sheet metal plates Cs can, like a weather vane, turn freely around the tube. 'tube axis C' and orient yourself in the direction of the wind.

      Tnoisienae forrrae of execution:
The condensed water cooler, the mixing condenser, the two vacuum pumps and the servomotor with its dynamo are installed above the tender, like the iodai in fig. 7. The construction and the mode of operation of the members operating the condensation of the vapor and the cooling of the condensed water are the same as for the first embodiment.

     Qttataièsee fo} e of executions:
It is represented in fig. 8. The condensed water cooler is installed above the boiler body and above the engineer's cabin, the vacuum pumps and the servomotor are grouped together on the locomotive catwalks and the fan placed at the top. 'front of the smoke box. The operating mode is the same as for the first embodiment.
