Apparatus for the carburization of a gas. The object. of the present invention is an apparatus by means of which one can increase the calorific power of a gas and this by passing the latter over surfaces which are impregnated with a volatile fuel.
This device is characterized in that it comprises at least one wick continuously impregnated with fuel, on at least one of the faces of which the gas to be burned is caused to circulate in a thin layer. Depending on the amount of gas to be passed through the device, the wicks will be arranged in different ways. Preferably, however, these will be suspended and immerse in the fuel liquid.
It is shown in the two figures of the attached sins an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention. Fig. 1 is a vertical axial section thereof, and FIG. 2 a section along the line I-1 of FIG. 1.
The apparatus shown comprises an external reservoir a in the bottom of which there is an orifice b serving at the same time for emptying and filling, and to which ends a tube through which the apparatus is partially filled with benzine or alcohol. In the tank a are. arranged three bells c d e, concentric with each other and all carried by a nozzle f through which the gas to be carburized is introduced.
On the perimeter of the bells are arranged, as shown in fi-. 2, a number of wooden tongues Ir on the outer face of which are stretched tubular wicks cl c11 cl which immerse in the fuel liquid.
At the top of the device is also provided an orifice h through which the gas leaves the container. Both inlet and outlet are taken from the mass of an auxiliary part g fixed to the top of the tank by means of screws. Between the wicks and the bells that carry them are. reserved, from lamella to lamella, certain spaces through which the gas can not pass.
The path of the latter is then: ori fice f, space between la. bell e and the. wick el which is stretched, on the latter, space between the bell d and, the wick and; then space between the same bell and the wick dl, space between the bell c and this last nnéme '@ re wick, between the bell c and 1 <<wick r' next to the top of the reservoir and the outlet orifice la. In the greater par ti- of this course inside the apparatus,
Ic gas is therefore in contact. with faces soaked in fuel, very volatile, cl @ jnt: it charges and it is to be noted that, contrary to what happens in the bubblers, the. pressure of the gas introduced into the apparatus is not due here very psc-u modifi @@ w @. The.
wicks additionally load automatically by capillary action and the surface that is constantly. licked when al) the same (in function is very large relative to the volume. of the device.
A big advantage of the. The construction shown is that the gas stream which passes from bell to bell is extremely thin, although its total section is much larger than that of the adductor and abductor orifices chi gas to be carburized. It is spread over the wicks by the very arrangement of the walls.
