Apparatus for developing, fixing, washing and drying photographic film strips. The object of the invention is an apparatus for developing, fixing, washing and drying photographic film strips.
It has a mechanism that does. make the belt a forced path through receptacles containing the liquids necessary to develop, fix and wash the belt, as well as through a drying chamber, and which has rotating motor and ticking rotating members crazy which passes the film strip, and in addition a device intended to impart tension to the film strip, in order to keep the hand in friction with the driving organs.
The accompanying drawings show, by way of example, one embodiment (the in vention.
Fig. 1 is a side view, with partial section, of the part of the apparatus in which the film is subjected to the action (the H- quides; Fig. 2 is Bile continuation of fig. 1 showing the dryer and the receiving mechanism, seen from the side;

Eliminate the excess or free moisture from the surfaces of the film before entering it: in the drink 5, which is divided into several co, partiments by means of hollow perforated partitions communicating. with a source of pressurized air which is directed on the moving film. in these compartments, so as to dry it before rolling it up:

The mechanism used to drive the film through the liquids of the tanks and the dryer, c- @ niprend several horizontal shafts, dared near the upper ends of the tanks 1 to j =, these shafts being supported in the bearings, carried by bars of support =, ri paralh_les 8,
fixed to the side members 9 of a frame normally resting on the upper bnrds of the walls. sides of the hac_ and intended to be raised and lowered to remove the suspension bars and the rail-supported members from the bins. At their lower levels, the bars 8 carry the key bearings shafts 10, arranged parallel to the shafts 7.
Media. 9 of the pali, = rs of trees' i and 10 also bear the paliers :: vertical IL trees, each of which is provided, at its lower end, with a pi @ nen of anal 12 meshing. with a 13 angle pinion mounted on each of the 1.0 shafts.
A their upper extremities., The trees they bear. of angle spifmons M meshing avc_ angle gears 15 mounted on a shaft: horizontal 16 parallel to the frame lonf # erons and. supported in bearings carried by them.
Trees 7 are crazy and. each of them carries a series of crazy 17 rollers that can. rotate freely on their shaft, and relative to each other.
Between the rollers 17 and, on the outer faces of the end rollers are discs 18 (the largest diameter, these discs being mounted (so as to be able to turn on the shafts 7 independently of the rollers 1'T. of the shafts 10, on the other hand, carries a series (the rollers 19 integral with their shafts and . rotating.
with them, these rollers being separated from each other by the discs or flanges 20 corresponding to the discs 1.5. The number of rollers mounted on each shaft is 10. less than one unitF @ than the number of idle rolls 1.'i, and these idlers @ c are placed, relative to the rollers 17, so that the film passes successively over a idle roll.
17, then on a roll 19, then on the next roll 1'7, then on the next roll 19 and so on from one end to the other of the shafts' 7 and 1.0 in each tray or in each compartment of the dryer.
The film passes from a roll 17 of a tray onto a roll 17 similar to the top. dThe following vat., but not from one vat to the next. it is wound around a 2 "1 roller mounted loosely on a shaft carried at the end of an arm 22 which is. voted on an upright 23 carried by the stringer of the frame and which is supported Masti - just:
at. any desired elevation by a slight tensioning spring attached to the lonzeron and an arm 25 which is supported by arm 2. but protrudes in the opposite direction.
With each of the rollers is combined a pressure roller 26 preferably covered with green chamois leather or similar material and mounted idle on a shaft provided at the end of an arm 27 mounted idle around a projection 28 of the arm 22, the purpose of the rollers 26 being to bring back the free liquid, entrained by the film, by scanning from each of the vats:
ctu'il crosses successively, in the @ bac. instead of transporting it to the next bin. This prevents the entrainment of an excess of developer solution clans a tank containing a fixing solution or the entrainment of the latter in a tank containing. the water in the.
After ctue the film has successively passed through the solutions of the various tanks, it is passed over an idle roller 29 with which is. combined a pressure roller 3c) similar to the rollers 26, both being covered with chamois leather or similar material and forcing the excess liquid dragged by the film to return to pour into the tank.
It then passes over another series of rollers serving to remove free moisture from the surfaces of the film and shown in particular in FIGS. 6 and. 7: this com series takes a roller 31 similar to roller 30 and kept in contact by the effect of weight with a controlled roller -32, actuated by the shaft 16. The roller 31 has a sufficient length for two widths movie key.
With the drum 31 is, combined a 'idler 33 similar to the roller 30 and hand held by its weight in surface contact with the drum 31. The shaft on which is mounted the roller 33, so as to be able to rotate, carries two uprights 34 in the upper ends of which is supported a idler roller 35, the latter being, hand held in contact with the roller 33 by light adjustable springs 36. The drum 31 and, the roller 33 are preferably covered with green chamois leather which, when wet, is very soft and does not wear out by friction, so that the film is not subject to, any deterioration by its contact with it or by relative movement between the film and . the roller.
After passing over roll 31, the film passes over an idle roll 37, suspended in a loop of the film and carrying suitable counterweights 37 'to keep the film under tension. After it has passed over the roller 37, the film passes over another idle roller 38, carried by a shaft mounted on the chassis spar, then it is brought back onto the. drum 31. It then passes over an idle roller 39 and over a suspended idler roller 40 supported in a so-called film loop and, over a second idle roller 39 contiguous to the first. It then passes through an opening made in an end wall of the dryer 5.
This contains a mechanism which, as seen in fig. 1, is almost identical to the serving mechanism. to drive the film through the various trays 1 to 4 and comprises bearing shafts 7 and 10, the series of fixed and idle rollers, respectively, all the shafts 10 being however controlled by a shaft 4t arranged lioi-izontâ'1ernent - in the dryer (fi- '. 4 @ ,. So that the film, passing through the various compartments of the dryer, can be amply subjected to the action of air currents intended for.
to dry it, one wedges between the rollers mounted on shafts i and 10, series of idle rollers 'Î, 43 and!' i, due to the film passing from a key roller shaft 7 to a roller of the tree 10. c1: vice versa, is brought into the immediate vicinity key perforated walls 45 of the parts ciei <<es i6 which divide the dryer into a number of compartments.
All the hollow spaces inside the partitions 46 communicate with an air chamber 4'i which receives air from a blower under a pressure strip and preferably filtered. dried, heated or otherwise treated to effectively absorb moisture from the film as it travels through the dryer.
After passing through the compartments of the dryer, the film emerges from an opening made in the other end wall of the chamber of sc @ clia, e r) and is driven on idler rollers 4S '. 4.S and 49 and on an ordered roll 50, then on another idle roll 51 from where it is led to 1-a take-up reel 7-,

The latter is mounted on a reference 62 which can be slid in its bearings. by means of a co-nvably connected lever 63 which can move the dis 61 as well. near or as far as desired key the axis of the disc 60 key so as to vary the speed. by the suspended roll 3'7 spreads gradually backwards over the entire film, but in the event that, by expansion of the film or stopping the part of the apparatus or mechanics contained in the drying chamber 5, the roll mad 37 is lowered until it comes to rest on the floor, the arrival of the rope obviously ceases to occur, because from the moment there is the weakest release on the last roll, this looseness reverberates back to the following rollers, almost instantaneously, in the same way that tension spreads.
The driving adhesion between the film and the driven and idle rollers is very weak and seldom sufficient at all points to deteriorate the film by causing it to shake suddenly or by scratching or scratching it. The elastically supported rollers 21 constitute, in a way, shock absorbers which absorb the force which would be exerted on the film as a result of a jolt which may be communicated to it at any point by sudden friction with one control rollers.
In the event that the film should break at any point on the apparatus, the advancement of a point of the film located behind the break would stop instantaneously and therefore warn the operator of this breakage. . The operation of the mechanism is then immediately stopped and the two ends of the cut film are connected together, ie. by advancing the rear part the desired distance, or by removing one or two sinuosities from the path on the rollers, which has the effect of shortening the path of the film a little through the camera, a complete correction being made after the lot. film to be processed has passed through my china and that we put on the film, false film.
During the passage of the film through the various trays 1 to 4, it expands considerably under the influence of liquids and this expansion is automatically compensated by the suspended rollers 37 and 40, this. last deny serving. in addition to compensate for the shrinkage click film and soli return to its normal condi tion in the drying chamber.
The rollers 3'7 and 40 must be supervised by the operator and in the event that one or the other hangs too high, the path of the line through the seclusion chamber, for example, could be interrupted by simply stopping the take-up roller 52 then in action. (, this would effect. a lowering of the heavens rolls 3'7 and i0, while.
that if these rolls were too low, the line driving through the trays would stop by simply stopping the movement of the film at a point between idle rollers 29 and. 31, this being done by simply holding the film at this point.
Continuation of the movement (the line through the separation chamber would quickly raise the idle rollers 3i and. 40 to any desired height and at that time the film would continue to circulate through the bins and. dryer.
It sometimes happens, in particular in the tanks for the development and the. fixing, as well as in the drying chamber, due to the layer of moisture on the surfaces of the rollers of the shafts 10 tends to adhere the film strongly. on these rollers and that part of said rope is driven around the roller so due to the opposite surfaces of. film come into contact with each other.
To prevent the film from sticking together and to free the film from the rollers, each of them (fig. 5) has an annular groove midway between its ends, which is attached to it. puller fingers mounted on the oscillating shaft. carried by the suspension bars 11.
The apparatus is further arranged to prevent the shrinkage of the film in drying from causing excessive stress on the film.
From the moment when the film enters the drying chamber the contraction (the film begins and continues, until the film has reached the point in its path where it is dry. This point, necessarily varies
