Process for increasing the evaporation of liquids in vessels.

The present invention relates to a method for increasing the evaporation of liquids in vessels. It is known that the heat transfer depends, among other things, on the temperature differences between the heat-emitting agent and the liquid, on the size of the transfer surface and on the material of the wall transferring the heat. However, it has already been observed that, with otherwise the same conditions, a higher temperature difference was required for a certain heat transfer when the entire device was at rest than when the liquid was moved.

This movement can be achieved, for example, by purely mechanical stirring or by blowing in small amounts of steam in front of finely divided jets.

The present invention relates to a completely new method to ensure that a relatively large amount of heat flows over at a certain temperature gradient or that, under otherwise identical conditions, a smaller temperature gradient or a smaller heating surface or a cheaper vessel material is used for a certain heat transfer can be. The process that makes up the invention consists in passing an electric current through the liquid to be vaporized. This current can be direct or alternating current.

A device useful for performing the method can be designed in such a way that two electrodes through which the electric current flows are arranged in the liquid to be evaporated.

Of these two electrodes, one can be a heating element designed for steam, liquid or gas heating. The use of alternating current has the particular advantage that the liquid is not significantly electrolytically decomposed.

It is already known to conduct electricity through liquids which give off or absorb heat. In one case it is done halfway to heat the liquid, and a large amount of electrical energy corresponding to the amount of heat must be passed through. In another case, electrical current is carried out in order to avoid the excretion of salts covering the transition surface from the liquid and to keep the wall clean and thus effective for a high heat transfer. The present method has nothing to do with either of the known processes.

Its effect can be explained in such a way that the passage of electrical current facilitates the formation of vapor from the individual liquid particles and thus the above-mentioned conditions with regard to temperature gradient and heating surface for a prescribed heat transfer are reduced. The amount of electrical energy required to carry out the process is only a negligibly small fraction of the amount of heat required for evaporation. The electrical current continuously gives the impetus for a slight heat transfer from the heating surface to the liquid and the formation of vapor in the same.

That? Furthermore, the inventive method is different from the mentioned, known method for keeping the heating surface clean by means of electric current, it follows that? The present process promotes evaporation even in liquids that do not generate any deposits on the vessel wall.

The drawing shows two exemplary embodiments of devices which are used to carry out the method. In Fig. 1 an evaporation vessel heated from below by means of fuel is schematically? shown by which direct current is passed to increase the evaporation.

In the example shown in FIG. 2, heating takes place mainly by means of recompressed vapor produced from the liquid. Alternating current is passed through the liquid.

According to FIG. I, the vessel i is heated from below by a coal furnace 2. The steam generated in the vessel 1 is passed through the pipe @ a @. A direct current dynamo machine 4 supplies electrical current @ which the liquid contained in the Ge @ Ï? E 1 has to flow through. For this purpose one pole, 5, of the dynamo machine is central. the line 6 at 7 to the jacket of the vessel 1, the other pole 8, the dynamomachine 4 connected by means of the line 9 to an electrode 10 suspended in the vessel 1.

The overflow of the electrical current between the two electrodes (jacket or bottom of the vessel 1 and electrode 10J results in considerably higher evaporation in the vessel 1 than if no current flows through it. As soon as the current is closed, If the current is interrupted, the evaporation decreases to the usual effect of the furnace 2 on the liquid contained in the vessel i.

In the device shown schematically in FIG. 2, the steam which develops from the liquid contained in the vessel 21 is sucked off by means of the pipe 22 by a compressor 23 and, in the compressed state, is fed into the heating coil 24 there the condensed vapor transfers the greater part of its heat content through the wall of the tube 24 to the liquid and vaporizes a new amount of it.

The condensate which forms in the coil 24 is discharged through the pipe 25.

The unavoidable heat losses are replaced by supplying fresh heating steam through the pipe 26. In order to increase the evaporation with otherwise the same conditions, the alternating current network 27 is used to draw electricity from the lines 28 and 29. One line leads to the pole 30 suspended in the vessel 21, the other line 29 is connected to the outlet tube 25 and thus to the heating coil 24. so there? this snake forms the second pole for the transition of the alternating current through the liquid.
