Description
Verfahren zur Geruchlosmachung von Thiodiglykol. Im Thiodiglykol wurde ein vorzügliches Mittel für die Bereitung von Druckpasten aus wasserunlöslichen, organischen Farbstoffen gefunden. Für diesen Zweck, sowie für wei- tere tere Verwendungsarten des Thiodiglykols hat sich jedoch im Laufe der Versuche der an haftende. penetrante Merkaptangeruch des technischen Präparates ausserordentlich stö rend bemerkbar gemacht.
Es wurde nun gefunden, dass dieser Ge ruch vollkommen beseitigt werden kann, wenn man das Thiodiglylol der Wasser dampfdestillation, gegebenen falls bei über hitztem Zustande des Dampfes, unterwirft. Der Erfolg dieses Verfahrens war nicht Vor hersehbar, weil das Thiodiglykol ein sehr reaktionsfähiger und labiler Körper ist, der sich unten Abspaltung von Wasser leieht zer setzt.
Durch Vornahme der Wasserdampf behandlung unter gleichzeitiger Verwendung eines Vakuums kann das Verfahren verbes- sert werden. Zweckmässig geschieht die Aus- fiihrung in der Weise, dass der Wasserdampf in das unter Vakuum und mässig erhöhter Temperatur stellende Thiodiglykol hindurch- geleilel wird. Dadurch wird erreicht, dass mit den eingeleiteten Wasserdämpfen Begleit- körper, welche die Verwendung des tech @@schen Thiodiglykols wesentlich beeinträch tigen würden, restlos übergetrieben werden. Dabei wird eine wesentliche Verdünnung des Thiodiglykols durch Wasser vermieden.
Ausserdem isl zu bemerken, dass die bei der gewöhnlichen Vakuumdestillation des Thiodi- glykols auftretenden Verharzungen hier nicht eintreten und dass eine lästige Dunkel färbung des Thiodiglykols vermieden wird. Die Anwendung eines Vakuums führt eine Steigerung der Ausbeute herbei.
Process for deodorising thiodiglycol. An excellent agent for the preparation of printing pastes from water-insoluble, organic dyes was found in thiodiglycol. For this purpose, as well as for other types of use of the thiodiglycol, however, in the course of the tests the adhesive. The penetrating smell of mercaptan of the technical preparation was made extremely disturbing.
It has now been found that this odor can be completely eliminated if the thiodiglylol is subjected to steam distillation, if appropriate when the steam is overheated. The success of this process could not be foreseen because the thiodiglycol is a very reactive and unstable body, which easily decomposes at the bottom with the separation of water.
The process can be improved by performing the steam treatment while using a vacuum. It is expediently carried out in such a way that the water vapor is trickled into the thiodiglycol, which is placed under vacuum and at a moderately elevated temperature. This ensures that any accompanying bodies, which would significantly impair the use of the technical thiodiglycol, are completely exaggerated with the water vapors introduced. A substantial dilution of the thiodiglycol with water is avoided.
In addition, it should be noted that the gumming that occurs during the usual vacuum distillation of thiodiglycol does not occur here and that annoying dark coloring of the thiodiglycol is avoided. The application of a vacuum leads to an increase in the yield.
