Description

Device for supporting a rotating shaft. The present invention relates to a device for supporting a rotary shaft by means of two bearings, established with a view to balancing the axial thrusts of the shaft in its bearings. According to the invention, the bearings comprise envelopes capable of executing a longitudinal movement when the bearings are subjected to a longitudinal thrust, and interconnected by a movement transmission mechanism with bent shafts connected by connecting rods to the envelopes of the bearings and interconnected by interconnecting lever arms, this mechanism being arranged so that a change in thrust on one of the bearings produces a corresponding change in thrust, but in the opposite direction on the other bearing,

to the effect of balancing the axial thrusts of the shaft.

An embodiment of the object of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in application to an alternator of the rotary inductor type for the production of high frequency currents; fig. 1 is a cross section of the assembly of this machine; fig. 2 is a plan view of the lever arms by which the movement of one of the bearings is transmitted to the other; fig. 3 is an end view of one of the bent shafts of the aforementioned transmission or balancing mechanism; fig. 4 is a section on a larger scale through a portion of one of the bent shafts along line 4-4 of FIG. 3; fig. 5 shows a detail.

The machine shown in the drawing comprises a casing 1 to which the flanges 2 are laterally fixed by means of bolts 3. The flanges 2 carry rings 4 which carry laminated annular cores 5, the lamellae being held in place by fixing rings 6 and 7. The casing 1, the flanges 2, and the annular parts 4, 5, 6 and 7, are all divided into two halves along a horizontal plane passing through the axis of the machine, for ease of assembly. these parts. A rigid rotary magnetic inductor 8 is mounted on the shaft 9 so that its peripheral part lies between the opposite faces of the annular cores 5.

The excitation of the magnetic field of the machine can be obtained by means of the annular coil 10 which is concentric with the inductor 8, or by the additional coils 11, 12, 13 and 14, which are semi-circular in shape. and arranged such that each of them embraces half of the periphery of the envelope 1.

The peripheral part of the inductor 8 has on each side approximately radial grooves (which are not indicated in the drawing) so as to constitute magnetic poles opposite to the faces of the laminated cores 5. In order to avoid swirling With excessive air at the high speed at which the inductor is intended to operate, the grooves in the peripheral portion of the inductor are filled with non-magnetic parts which are securely fastened therein in a suitable manner. The width of the air gap between the inductor and the laminated cores 5 can be adjusted by moving the rings 4 with respect to the flanges 2 by means of the adjustment bolts 15. The shaft 9 of the machine is carried by two bearings of the automatic axial alignment type.

Each of these bearings is provided with a casing 17 which is carried by a central part of the corresponding flange 2 and which is movable relative to the latter. The parts 18 of the shaft are circularly grooved. The grooved parts of the shaft 18 are surrounded by parts 19 which are circularly grooved on their inner surface so that the circular ribs thus formed on these parts penetrate into the grooves of the shaft 9, as is well known, to receive the axial thrusts of the shaft. The parts 19 are pierced with holes for the arrival of the oil which can be fed to the bearings through the holes 20.

The flanges 2 carry consoles 21 which support pivoting parts which in this case are in the form of bent shafts 22, the upper crank pins of which engage in the con soles 21. The casings 17 of the por- tent connecting rods 23 which are mounted so as to be able to turn on these envelopes by means of the journals 24 and which embrace journal portions of the bent shafts. On the lower crank pins of the bent shafts 22 are fixed two lever arms 25 and 26, facing one another.

The lever arm 25 carries, fixed firmly at its free end, and making a right angle with the longitudinal direction of the arm, a rigid rod 27, while the lever arm 26 has a spring blade 28, fixed at its free end and extending in the same direction as the rod 27. At their free end, the rod 27 and the leaf spring 28 are fixed to each other by the bolts 49, so that the movement of a of the lever arms will cause a corresponding movement of the other lever arm, thanks to the flexible connection thus established. Tie rods 29 are articulated at 30 on the rod 27 and on the leaf spring 28 and the free ends of these tie rods 29 are surrounded by springs 31 bearing on a plate 32 which is fixed to the base 33 of the machine.

By adjusting the bolts 34 mounted at the end of these tie rods, the tension of the springs 31 can be changed.

An axial or longitudinal thrust exerted on one or other of the thrust bearings is communicated to the casing 17 thereof, and through the casing, to the connecting rods 23. The thrust bearing on the connecting rods 23 tends to rotate the corresponding elbow shaft 22. This results in an angular movement of the lever arm fixed to this shaft, and a corresponding movement of the other lever arm which rotates the elbow shaft for the latter in the opposite direction to that in which the first crankshaft turns, in order to balance the axial thrusts on the two bearings. With the springs 31 being adjusted to exert a certain equal pressure on the lever arms 25 and 26, the bearings tend to maintain a determined position with balanced axial thrusts, as long as the length of the shaft does not change.

However, they will be able to move by an equal amount for any variation in shaft length due to a change in temperature, and therefore inductor 8 will remain in its middle position.

To reduce the friction of the members 21, 23 on the bent shafts 22, these members attack the corresponding parts of the bent shafts along lines which substantially coincide with the axes of these parts of each shaft. The means by which this condition is fulfilled are shown in figs. 4 and 5 for one of the bent shafts 22. Housings 35 and 36 are formed in the bent shaft 22, and hard steel bearing plates 37 are located at the bottom of these housings, which plates have notches 38, on their bearing face, these notches substantially coinciding with the geometric axis of the corresponding parts of the bent shaft.

The consoles 21 and the connecting rods 23 carry pressure transmission studs 39, the free ends of which are tapered at 40 (fig. 5), in order to form a knife blade which penetrates the in sizes 38. The pressure between the shaft elbow 22 and the bracket 21 and the connecting rod 23 is transmitted entirely by the studs 39 to the support plates 37, and the parts of the consoles 21 and the connecting rods 23 which surround the shafts 22, serve only as guides and supports for the studs 39.
