Description

Polyphase current electrical distribution installation. The present invention relates to an electrical distribution installation with polyphase currents, in which polyphase, desired and unwanted components are manifested and which contains an apparatus intended to operate only with the desired current component.

According to the invention, the installation comprises an auxiliary dynamoelectric machine with primary and secondary windings, which would operate at different speeds (the difference possibly being either a difference in direction or a difference in magnitude) under the control of the two components. current and whose primary winding comprises phase coils connected in series between terminals to which the two components appear and the device intended to function only with the desired component, while the secondary winding of this machine is caused to rotate relative to its primary winding at a speed at least approximately synchronous corresponding to the unwanted current component, whereby said machine provides relatively low impedance to the desired current component.

Figs. 1 and 2 of the appended schematic drawing represent, by way of example, two embodiments of the object of the invention.

The installation shown in fig 1. com carries a rotary phase converter 1 having a polyphase stator 2 and a squirrel cage winding rotor, the machine 1 being, in construction, similar to an ordinary polyphase induction motor.

A current source formed by a transformer 4 supplies single-phase alternating current to the phase converter 1 and polyphase current is jointly supplied directly by the source 4 and indirectly by the phase converter 1 'to a polyphase distribution line, such as that feeding an electric traction motor 5 of the induction type.

Conversely, during the period of electrical recovery or regeneration, the machine 5 will operate as an asynchronous polyphase generator; the electrical energy produced will be transmitted to transformer 4 directly and via converter 1.

As is well known, the ohmic and inductive drops in the converter 1 produce a distorting effect on the polyphase electromotive forces derived from this machine under load conditions, so as to give rise to an unbalance of the installation.

This unbalancing effect is for the most part eliminated, in the embodiment shown, by the use of an auxiliary dynamo-electric machine 6, similar to an ordinary polyphase induction motor, like the rotary phase converter and comprising a primary winding with phase coils 7, 8 and 9 and a secondary winding 10, the latter being shown as being mounted on the rotor, although the rotor may either have either the secondary winding or the primary winding .

The phase coils 7, 8 and 9 of the primary winding of the machine 6 are conductively separated from each other inside the machine and are respectively interposed in series in the distribution conductors between the converter 1 and the motor 5 and the electrical connections are such that the phase sequence in machine 6 runs in the opposite direction to that of the phase sequence in converter 1, while the rotor of machine 6 is driven in the direction rotation of the rotor 3 by the shaft 11, which connects the two rotors.

The number of poles in the machine 6 is the same as that in the converter 1, these two machines being directly connected by the shaft 11, whereby the frequency corresponding to the synchronous operation of the machine 6 is the same as that in gendée in machine 1.

While the auxiliary machine 6 is shown as being provided with the same number of poles as the main machine 1, which achieves the result which will be discussed later, harmonics of a higher order than the fundamental harmonic can be eliminated from the controlled machine by giving the auxiliary machine 6 the required number of poles and by operating this machine at a speed substantially synchronous with the current of the fundamental harmonic.

The operation of the installation described is as follows: Assuming that the machine 1 has been started and supplies energy to the motor 5, the energy in the distribution conductors will be of the frequency of the source 4; but the currents in these conductors will tend to become unbalanced there as a result of falls in the machine 1.

The unbalanced polyphase current can be broken down into two balanced polyphase components, one corresponding to the direction of rotation of the motor forward, which is the desired component, and the other to the direction of rotation backward, which is the non-component. desired, these two components being of the same frequency as the source 4. The unwanted component, whose phase sequence tends to drive the rotor of the machine in the direction of rotation of the rotor 3 forces the machine 6 to operate more or less in synchronism with respect to this component.

In this way, the machine 6 will have the effect of opposing its synchronous impedance to the component tending to rotate the motor backwards, while it will have little effect with respect to the component of the direction of rotation forwards. By these means, the polyphase component of reverse direction of rotation will be practically suppressed and the resulting electro-motive force supplied to the motor 5 will be balanced.

The machine 6 is shown as being rigidly coupled with the machine 1 so as to ensure the operation of the machine 6 at all times, even though the load currents which pass through it are so low in value that they prevent the development therein. sufficient control torque; but if the load currents are of such value as to maintain the desired torque, shaft 11 can be omitted and machine 6 can run freely, functioning as an asynchronous machine and substantially developing its full synchronous impedance, the speed of the machine differing from the synchronous speed only by the relatively low slip caused by mechanical friction, friction in the air and electrical losses.

As indicated above, it is understood that the desired elimination of unwanted harmonics can be accomplished by operating the auxiliary machine 6 at the speed synchronous with the harmonic current which it is desired to eliminate from the installation.

Referring now to fig. 2, the main elements of this installation are the same as those of the first embodiment, except that the converter 1 is of the synchronous type, this effect being produced by the addition of a direct current exciter winding 12 on the secondary member 3 of the converter. The auxiliary machine 6 serving for balancing the installation is also of the synchronous type and is connected directly by the shaft 11 to the converter 1, but could also function as a synchronous motor.

In the latter case, it will be appropriate to provide means for circumferentially moving the pole axes of the auxiliary machine 6, these means being conventionally indicated in the drawing by handles 13 shown as being applied to the field poles of the machine 6. to allow these latter to be moved in the circumferential direction. The synchronous operation of the machine 6 allows the development of the full synchronous impedance thereof, thus ensuring a maximum balancing effect for a given machine.

Up to now, it has been proposed to release the electromotive forces of an unbalanced polyphase installation by connecting an auxiliary machine in shunt on the installation, this machine opposing a substantially zero impedance to the phase component of the direction of rotation backwards, thus short-circuiting this unwanted phase component and consequently determining the balancing of the electromotive forces resulting from the installation. In the embodiments shown, however, the auxiliary machine is connected in series to impose a high synchronous impedance on the unwanted phase component.

Since a single-phase installation can be considered as a completely unbalanced polyphase installation, i.e. such that the undesired component has the same amplitude as the desired component, machine 6 can be used. used in this application to preserve the balancing of a polyphase installation from which a single-phase load is taken. In other words, with a single-phase load with two equal balanced polyphase components and opposite directions of rotation, it is only necessary to prevent one of the load components of the single-phase installation from being imposed on the load. balanced poly-phased source in order to maintain a balance therein.

Therefore, the machine 6 can be connected in series between the single phase load (supplemented by balancing conductors) and the polyphase part of the plant and be made to rotate at such a speed that the unwanted load component be suffocated. This is what would take place; for example, when machine 5 (fig. 1) is operating in regeneration, if the installation did not include a converter and if coil 7 was, for example, directly connected to the midpoint of the secondary winding of transformer 4 .
