Description

process for making a resinous product. The invention relates to a method for producing a resinous product from tar pitch.

Tar pitch has so far only been used for inferior purposes, for example for the production of iron pools, for insulation against moisture. as briquette pitch, roofing felt, us, v. The impurities that are present in the pitches and the impossibility of making the individual chemical bodies react in a rational way made further higher quality use impossible.

The process for the production of a resin-like product from tar pitch is based on the fact that raw: toluene sulfochloride and tar pitch are exposed to one another in the presence of alkali.

The mixture used as the toluenesulfonyl chloride is the same as that obtained in the manufacture of toluenesulfonyl chloride.

If a high-quality resin is to be obtained, it is advisable not to (let pitch as such react with the sulfochloride in the presence of alkali), but rather to separate the alkaline pitch extract from the non-alkali-soluble components beforehand and to take them with it To bring sulfochloride into reaction.

The final product obtained is insoluble in water. It is freed from the impurities that are mixed in from the reaction, such as salts, for example, by washing.

The body that then arises is resinous, so that it is in its raw state for technical purposes. Purposes corresponding to the character of the end product can be used. It has a high melting point, is soluble in common organic solvents, resistant to air and light and shows in every respect the behavior of natural resins, such as colophonium and the like.

Example: 100 kb tar pitch with 20% acid content is heated for a long time with an amount of ATatron that corresponds to the acid content. Then it is allowed to cool, and it is added under fo @ 1-t @ i-: iliren (without stirring (tann about 24k- crude toluene sulphoeliloride. Dissolved in benzene) and the whole thing treated for a quarter of an hour at room temperature the reaction product is washed and dried.
