Description
Process for the preparation of the sodium salt of benzylphthalamic acid: The sodium salt of benzylphthalamic acid has so far only become known in its aqueous solution. If one tries to obtain it by evaporating it, one obtains a more or less impure preparation, there. Benzylpht.alimide can easily be formed from this salt in aqueous solution, especially when heated.
It has now been found that the decomposition of the sodium salt of benzylphthalamic acid can be avoided if sodium hydroxide solution is added from the beginning to the salt solution to be evaporated.
The sodium salt of benzylphthalamic acid, which dissolves easily in moist air and which crystallizes in matted needles, dissolves easily in water and diluted alcohol. It has. the property of having a spasmolytic effect despite its solubility in water, and is characterized by an extremely low toxicity; therefore it should be used in therapy.
Example 255 parts of benzylphthalamic acid (reports of the German Chemical Society, 31, 1. $ 98, page 2740) are mixed with water to form a paste and, with stirring, converted into a neutral solution with 144 parts of crystal soda. The liquid is filtered, the filtrate is mixed with enough sodium hydroxide solution that trinitrobenzene paper indicates that some caustic soda is present. Then you steam on the steam bath. Syrup and dries it completely in a vacuum.
By recrystallizing the dry residue from absolute alcohol, the pure sodium salt of benzylphthalamic acid is obtained in the form of matted needles.
