Description

Wolframbogenlampe.

Tungsten arc lamp. The subject matter of the invention relates to arc lamps in which the light arc between tungsten electrodes in an atmosphere of nitrogen, argon or the like passes over virtually indifferent gases or vapors against tungsten.

In the known lamps, only one cathode is assigned to the anode. Although the tungsten metal has a very high thermal conductivity, this is not sufficient to give the tungsten anode an approximately uniform temperature due to the arc that rests on it. Part of its surface therefore does not emit light in an economical way.

Tests have shown that by assigning several cathodes to one anode, the uniformity of the heat conduction on the anode increases rapidly, so that it is possible to use a corresponding number of cathodes to bring fairly large anodes into even, extremely white heat. It is not possible to assign a common series resistor to the various cathodes, since otherwise an arc could not form or maintain between all cathodes and the anode. It is necessary to give each cathode its own series resistor. A part of the switching resistor can be common to the cathodes.

The arc lamp according to the invention is particularly advantageous when using essentially plate-shaped anodes, which are of particular importance for projection purposes because the light emission is restricted in the directions in which it cannot be used. Very favorable arrangements are obtained when the cathode is opposite one side of the anode, specifically in the vicinity of the edge. provided, or if they are built in so that they can be integrated into a. be evenly distributed in a plane parallel to the anode plane.

In the drawing, two exemplary embodiments of the subject invention are shown, namely Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section and Fig. 2 each half the corresponding plan and cross-section, and Figs. 3 and 4 in side and front view are other arrangements of the Cathodes; FIGS. 5 and 6 schematically illustrate the insertion of the ballast resistors into the supply lines to the cathodes of the embodiments shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, 3 and 4.

According to Fig. 1, five cathodes b are provided behind the plate-shaped anode a, so that a total of six supply wires c result, which are led to the six contact pins d.

In the embodiment according to FIGS. 3 and 4, the cathodes b are arranged to the side of the plate-shaped anode a.

According to Fig. 5, a series resistor e is seen in the current path of each of the five cathodes, which may otherwise be formed according to FIGS. 1 and 2 or 3 and 4, while in the embodiment of FIG. 6 also still a five cathodes common ballast resistor f is installed.
