Description
Process for the production of cyan sodium. In certain processes for the production of alkali cyanides, not pure cyanides are obtained, but mixtures of alkali cyanide with other substances.
For example, by melting calcium cyanamide with common salt, a melt is obtained which, after treatment with water, results in an alkali which, in addition to insoluble impurities such as coal, lime and others, is essentially calcium chloride, common salt, calcium cyanide and sodium cyanide contains. This one. Solutions for most purposes of technology cannot be used and, moreover, are poorly preserved in air, attempts have been made to obtain cyanides from these mixtures which are sufficiently pure for all technical purposes. exhibit.
According to the invention, this is surprisingly achieved by concentrating the solution to saturation with cyanide, with the proviso that the alkaline earth metal salts present are converted into alkali metal salts with precipitation of the alkaline earth metal before or at the same time as the concentration process is carried out. In this simple way, a solution saturated with sodium cyanide is obtained without further ado,
which is free of troublesome impurities and only contains such small amounts of table salt that the cyanide liquor can easily be technically utilized or processed into solid sodium cyanide using known methods.
To the aqueous solution of the lime stick material - molten sodium chloride is expediently as much sodium sulfate or another, insoluble or sparingly soluble alkaline earth forming sodium salt, z. B. soda, as the present alkaline earth salts ent speaks. It can then be evaporated until the table salt is almost completely eliminated.
The solution can also be concentrated by introducing sodium cyanide, optionally a mixture of sodium cyanide and common salt. If necessary, an excess of cyanide can also be added here, since the part that remains undissolved can easily be recovered later by leaching out the residue that remains. The lime can also be precipitated at the same time as the concentration process is carried out.
The sodium cyanide liquor obtained can, after separation from the solid constituents which have separated out, be used as such or further processed in a known manner on solid sodium cyanide.
The process enables high-quality sodium cyanide to be obtained from calcium cyanide in the simplest and cheapest way. The success achieved is largely surprising; In particular, it was not foreseeable that cyan sodium would have the ability to displace common salt, which is itself known as a typical salting-out agent, from the solution to such an extent that the remaining cyanide liquor can easily be further processed into high-quality sodium cyanide.
