Clasp for necklaces, key rings, key rings, furs, clothing and other items. The object of the present invention is a clasp for necklaces, key rings, key rings, furs, clothing and other articles, characterized by a rod-shaped piece introduced into an elongated shell-shaped piece, through an opening that the latter has at one of its ends, a shell in which can move longi tudinally a slider with an angled end facing the aforementioned opening, which is pushed by a spring housed in the shell towards the other end also of conical shape thereof and which has balls in radial recesses,
between which is clamped said rod by the conical end of the shell.
The appended drawing, given by way of example, represents an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view thereof, two parts of this embodiment being attached respectively to the two ends of a chain; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section, on a larger scale; Fig. 3 is a cross section taken on line 3-3 of FIG. 2, and Fig. 4 is a cross section taken along line 4-4 of FIG. 2.
The clasp shown comprises the two parts 1 and 2 and a clamping device intended to connect them to one another at certain times and to release them at other times. Part 1 consists of a rod and part 2 consists of an elongated shell comprising, at one of its ends, an orifice 3 through which the rod 1 passes. The clamping device comprises three balls 9 and a neck. slider 4 which can slide in the shell 2 so as to tighten the rod 1.
Part of the recess of the shell 2 tapers into 6, at the end next to the orifice 3 and said shell is closed,% at its other end, by a plate 12, hand held in place -in the groove 13 obtained for example by stamping or hammering said end of the shell 2, as indicated at 14. The shell 2 has a lateral opening 15 which makes the slide 4 accessible to allow the rod 1 to be released at the desired time.
This opening 15 makes it possible to introduce either the nail or a suitable tool for moving the slide 4 which comprises a longitudinal duct in, in line with the orifice 3, into which the rod 1 penetrates and has a truncated conical end. 7 corresponding to. the conical interior surface 6 of the shell 2; it comprises, in said frustoconical end, three radial recesses 8 in which there are the three free balls 9 arranged therein with a view to clamping the rod 1, as described below.
A spring 10 is interposed between the slider 4 and the plate 12, so as to push the slider normally against the perforated end of the shell and thus drive the balls 9 towards the axis of the duct 5 pierced in the slider 4. which is hollowed out at one of its ends, at 11, recess in which is housed one of the ends of the spring 10. The slider 4 also has an annular peripheral groove 16 capable of receiving through the opening 15 either the nail or a tool, acting on the adjacent edge 17 of the slide to move the latter against the spring 10.
It will be noted that the slide is kept completely in the recess of the shell 2, and that it is thus guaranteed against any accidental movement which could release the rod 1 at an inopportune moment.
We use the clasp described as follows: When the rod 1 is introduced through the opening 3 in the shell 2, the slide, under the action of the spring 10, clamps the rod 1 between the balls 9 and the parts 1 and 2 are thus connected to one another, without the slide 4 risking being moved by any external influence which could cause the unexpected opening of the clasp; this danger is eliminated since the slide is entirely housed inside the shell 2.
When we want to separate parts 1 and 2 from each other to open the clasp, it suffices to introduce the nail or a tool through the opening 15 of the shell 2 and act on the edge of the shoulder 17 of the slide 4 ,. so as to push the latter back and thus release the rod 1 from the tightening of the balls 9, which makes it possible to remove the rod 1 from the shell 2.
The appended drawing shows the application of the clasp, for example with a titi key ring, the parts 1 and 2 being interconnected by a chain 18 fixed by one end with a titi eyelet la to the end of the rod 1 and by either end at plate 12, which, at. for this purpose, is provided with a loop 19, the ends of which are riveted inside the plate 12.
The disclosed clasp can be applied in the same way to furs, clothing, collars and other articles which it is desired to close in a non-permanent manner.
