Une sixième came, 72 (fig.

<tb> of a <SEP> screw <SEP> 47 <SEP> bearing <SEP> on <SEP> a <SEP> mobile <SEP> ankle

<tb> wire <SEP> 8, <SEP> which <SEP> crosses <SEP> the <SEP> disk <SEP> 9. A fourth cam, 50, is intended to put tools 11 and 12 to neckline resp. bleeding and must operate a lever 52 (fig. 1 and 5) pivotally mounted at 53 on an arm 54 of the headstock 3.
The outer arm of this lever is provided with a finger 51 and a handle 56 and remains in permanent contact with the face of the cam 50 under the effect of a spring 55 attached to the doll 4, while the arm interior 57 is forked and engaged in a groove 58 of the sliding collar 15 of the cage 10 so that the oscillations of the lever are transmitted to the collar.
The bar-turning and bleeding tools (fig. 4, 11 and 12) are mounted inside the cage 10 on pins 121 and 122, of which wing keys <B> 123 </B> are engaged in oblique slots 124 formed in plates fixed on opposite faces of the collar 15. The collar 15, guided by a tongue 77, can slide on the body of the cage 10 and rotates the driven fins, thereby also turning the pins 121 and 122 and applying or removing, depending on the direction of movement of the collar, tools 11 and 12.
To produce the forward and backward threading by the pulleys 17, 1_87 19, the fifth cam, 59, comprises a disc (fig. 7 and 2) provided with two parts 60 fixed to it by means of screws 61 and each comprising two projecting surfaces 62 forming the actual cam. These parts act on the cleat 63 provided on the lower arm of a belt release lever 64 pivotally mounted at 65 on the bench 1 (the machine.
The upper end of the lever carries forks 66 and 67 in which pass straight and crossed belts acting on the pulleys 17, 18 resp. 19. The lower end of the lever 64 has a protrusion 68 in the form of a / (Fig. 4) intended to engage with notches of an arm 69 which pivots at 70 inside the base of the lever. machine and which is attracted towards said lever by a spring 71. This mechanism serves to maintain the belt-moving lever in its various positions.
A sixth cam, 72 (fig. 1, 2 and 4), to produce the longitudinal movements of the die has a projection 73 intended to act on a cleat 74 fixed to the lower arm of the lever 23. The latter is mounted by means of 'an adjustable journal in the longitudinal direction of the lathe in the support 75 which protrudes, on the right side, the machine bed and a handle 76 of the screw 22 mounted on the upper arm of the lever 23 allows the lever to be adjusted in its position of work.
The devices for checking the wire during the making (the screws are as follows: The wire 8 after passing the clamp of the carriage 5 passes through an interchangeable bush according to the gauge of the wire and adjusted in the hub 101 of the fixed disc 9. On this hub can rotate a centering sleeve 102 fixed to arms 103 integral with the cage 10 and the latter is fixed to the end of a tubular spindle 104 which is housed in a bearing 105 of the doll 3 and still carries, between this bearing and a collar 106, the pulley 16.
On an extension 107 of smaller diameter of the spindle 104 is housed behind the collar 106 the tubular hub 108 of the drum 21 which contains the trigger mechanism. On this tubular hub, which is housed in a bearing 109 of the tailstock 4, the idler pulley 18 and 1a are placed. Fixed pulley 19. The pulley 17, also idle, can turn directly on the extension <B> 107 </B> of the spindle 104 between the collar 106 and the shoulder formed by the hub 108. The end of the extension 107 carries a centering sleeve for the pin 14 of the die, which is still centered by a sleeve 111 placed in the hub of the cage 10.
The trigger mechanism comprises an interchangeable block 112 which can engage with an arm 1.13 fixed in an adjustable manner to the hub of a clamping screw 114 on the die-holder spindle 14. By means of this block 112 the rotating movement in the two-way pulley 19 can be. forwarded to the. pin 14.
A device for lubricating the die is also provided on the spindle 14. A box 115 attached to the disc 24 and loose on the spindle contains a lubricating liquid which is introduced therein from a source of lubricant through a flexible hose, not shown, attached. at. a fitting 119 and arrives at the. die through holes 120 in the pin 14 and slots in the cage 10. The rotation of the box is: prevented thanks to. connecting rods 116 and <B> 117 </B> attaching the box to a stud attached to. la, doll 4 and allowing the box to follow the oscillating movement of spindle 14.
The operation of the lathe described is as follows: The wire 8 is caught in the disc 9 of the. doll ? by the pin 48 under the action of the cam 42.
The cam 32 then comes into the position of FIG. 8 where it lifts the lever 89 and at the same time loosens the jaw clamp 81, 82. The projection 37 of the carriage then falls under the face 41 of the cam 36, whereupon the carriage 5 is withdrawn by the spring 38. Immediately thereafter finger 90 falls under the steeply inclined face of cam 32 and jaw clamp 81, 82 grips the wire. In the meantime, the finger 43 has fallen into the notch of the cam 42 and has released the thread by the pin 48.
The long inclined face of the cam 36 then pushes the carriage forward through the projection 37 and brings the wire towards the tool 11 which then comes into action, and towards the die which works the rod of the wire already reduced to the desired diameter. Because after the shank of the preparation screw starts to be turned to the diameter you want read by the tool 11, the lever 23 pushes the disc? 1 on the end tic the tubular spindle 14 arnenar) t this quickly towards the screw ter.
, If the arm 113 is not engaged with the block 11? before this occurs, contact immediately begins and block 112 rotates arm 113 with tubular spindle 14 of die 13 in the desired direction to make the thread. The lever 23 drops back immediately after the die is caught with the thread e, because the subsequent longitudinal movement (the threading tool on the thread is produced automatically by the very action of the tail- ka-e of the net.
The chamfered extremity of block 112 is indicated in dotted lines on the fib. 2, while the spring. 129 pressing block 112 towards the left <B> the </B> is visible on the fib. 4. When moving (or reversing) the belts, when the drum? 1 trades at. turn in the opposite direction, the rear face of the block 112 again strikes against the arm 113 and turns the spindle 14 backwards so as to unscrew the die 13 and, consequently, to release it from the wire.
While this is taking place, the cut-off or bleed wire 12 kicks in to cut and loosen the finished screw.
The slots 124 of the collar of the <B>, </B> cage 10 as well as the cam <B> 50 </B> could also have another shape to produce another series of operations of the tools employed. Also in the case of internal threading, the die could be replaced by taps.
The cage 10 could also be provided with a number of tools greater than two. The illustrated form of tools 11 and 12 is a preferred form. The radial faces of the notches form a cutting edge with the circumference of the disc and the direction (the cutting is such that the rough turns are projected outside the circumference of the disc and do not encumber the notch.
The block (the trigger Il'-) being mounted to res goes out and its useful face to. an inclination allows the arm 13 to slide past this face when the tool has reached the end of the thread to be started, regardless of the moment when the <B> </B> belt drive change occurs .
In the second form of exec.ion following the fi-. 9 and 10, a mandrel 130 carrying the tools 11 and 12 on pins 121 and 122, as in the first form of the lathe, is mounted in a doll 131 corresponding to the doll? of fig. 1 to 8. The mandrel 130 is mounted on a stationary bush 132 attached to the headstock 131 and the hollow hub 133, through which the wire 8 passes, is lobed inside the bush 132.
The action of tools 11 and 12 and their control by means of appropriately shaped slots 124 provided in the plates carried by a collar 1.5 es ?; the same as that of the. description of fib. 1 to 8, since the control is effected by the action of a lever 52, 5 7 and a cam 50 corresponding exactly to the lever and to the cam designated by the same figures in FIGS. 1 to 8. The mandrel 130 has a groove 185 intended to receive a drive belt.
In this case, the threading tool is mounted at the end of a spindle 14 of short length passing through a doll 136 which corresponds to the doll 3 of FIGS. 1 to 8. The rotary bush 137 on which the fixed pulley 19 is wedged and around which the idler pulleys 18 and 17 rotate corresponds to the hub 108 of FIGS. 1 to 8, tan say that the doll 138 corresponds to the doll 4 of fig. 1 to 8. The other parts of the mechanism, including the drum 21 of the trigger mechanism and the lever 23 for pushing the tubular spindle 14, are identical to those which have been described in connection with figs. 1 to 8 and do not need to be described again.
An advantage of this embodiment is that a free space is reserved in front of the end of the screw after the latter has been threaded and while it is being cut off. This can be used to arrange an automatic conveyor of a known type sliding on the body of the screw so as to receive the latter, when it is cut off, and then to move it laterally in order to present the screw head. the screw to a saw which mills its head. The screw then falls out of the conveyor completely finished. Such conveyors and countersunk screw heads are already known, as they are applied to other screw making machines.
Another advantage consists in that the threading tool is visible and not housed inside a cage, which makes it possible to replace the organs carried by the doll 136 with a multiple tool of any known shape, in the case of case two or more operations must be carried out successively.
The feeding of the machine by a wire wound on a spool only applies for small diameters. For larger dimensions bars must be brought one after the other. In the case of a spool, the wire passes through straightening rollers before bringing it to the lathe. These rollers do not form part of this invention.
