Description
Verfahren zur Herstellung von Formstücken aus freien Kohlenstoff enthaltenden Wolframkar biden. Die bisher bekannten Verfahren zur Her stellung von Formstücken aus Wolfrarn- karbiden führen nicht zu festen, gegen mechanische Beanspruchung widerstandsfähi gen Werkzeugen und Gebrauchsgegenständen von diamantartiger Härte, sofern es sich um solche Wolframkarbide als Ausgangsmaterial handelt, die ausser dem an Wolfram als Karbid gebundenen Kohlenstoff noch freien Kohlenstoff enthalten.
Es gelingt nun auf Grund vorliegender Erfindung, auch aus derartigen, mit freiem Kohlenstoff durchsetzten Wolframkarbiden Formstücke dadurch herzustellen, dass man diese mit solchen Mengen eines Molybdän enthaltenden Stoffes versetzt und bei über den Schmelzpunkt gesteigerter Temperatur verschmilzt, dass sämtlicher freier Kohlenstoff abgeschieden wird, worauf die geschmolzene Masse in Formen gegossen wird.
<I>Beispiel:</I> 1,5 kg eines gepulverten, noch freien Kohlenstoff enthaltenden Wolframkarbides werden mit 7 % (=10b gr) Molybdänöxyd der Formel Mo0z vermischt und bis zum Eintritt der dünnflüssigen Schmelze in einem elektrischen Ofen auf etwa 2400 o erwärmt. Die Abscheidung des freien Kohlenstoffes ist durch Blasenbildung in der flüssigen Schmelze deutlich erkennbar. Die Schmelze wird dann durch Zentrifugalkraft in Formen für Draht ziehsteine vergossen.
Durch diesen verhältnismässig hohen Zu satz von Molybdän wird nicht nur die Kohlenstoffabscheidung bewirkt, sondern auch eine feinkörnige Struktur erzielt. Ausserdem ist durch den hohen Molybdänzusatz der Vorteil gegeben, das zu verarbeitende Wolf- ramkarbid in den dünnflüssigen Zustand überzuführen, ohne dass bei der Erstarrung ein Auskristallisieren in grossen Xristalliten erfolgt und damit ein grobkörniges, brüchiges,
gegen mechanische Beanspruchung nur sehr wenig widerstandsfähiges Gefüge herbeige führt wird. Zweckmässig erfolgt die Form gebung der Karbidkörper, wenn es sich um die Herstellung sehr scharf ausgeprägter Gusskörper handelt, wie es für sehr viel Zwecke notwendig ist, unter Benutzung der Zentrifugalkraft,

The previously known processes for the manufacture of shaped pieces made of tungsten carbides do not lead to solid, mechanical stress resistant tools and utensils of diamond-like hardness, provided that tungsten carbides are used as the starting material, apart from the carbon bound to tungsten as carbide contain free carbon.
It is now possible on the basis of the present invention to produce shaped pieces from such tungsten carbides interspersed with free carbon by adding such amounts of a substance containing molybdenum and fusing them at a temperature higher than the melting point that all free carbon is deposited, whereupon the molten mass is poured into molds.
<I> Example: </I> 1.5 kg of a powdered, still free carbon-containing tungsten carbide are mixed with 7% (= 10b gr) molybdenum oxide of the formula Mo0z and heated to about 2400 o. In an electric furnace until the low-viscosity melt enters warmed. The deposition of free carbon can be clearly recognized by the formation of bubbles in the liquid melt. The melt is then poured into molds for wire drawing dies by centrifugal force.
This relatively high addition of molybdenum not only causes carbon deposition, but also achieves a fine-grain structure.
