Description

Pross roller for squeezing water out of damp wood or cellulose cardboard. The invention relates to a press roller for squeezing water out of moist wood or cellulose cardboard.

In the known rollers with surface channels running in the circumferential direction of the rollers which extend inwardly, d. H. narrow towards the roller axes so much that they exert a hairpipe effect on the water expelled at the pressing point, these channels are formed by the fact that the entire surface of the roller is wrapped in tightly fitting metal or with a helical, dense winding of circular metal wire or polygonal cross-section is covered.

This training has the disadvantage that rust forms between the individual rings or layers.

According to the present invention, the surface channels running approximately in the circumferential direction of the roller, narrowing inwardly towards the roller axis, are worked out in the roller surface itself. Thanks to this training, any rust can be avoided in particular who the, as it arose in the previously common rollers between and under the layers of winding.

Exemplary embodiments of the invention are shown in the accompanying drawing, namely: FIGS. 1-3 various embodiments of the roller surface in the axial length, ## "section; FIGS. 4-12 show on a larger scale Scale of further embodiments of the channel profiles.

In the case of the rolls according to FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, the inwardly strongly narrowed channels 1 are formed by turning out of the roll surface itself in such a way that the cross-sectional shape of the surface channels is approximately the same as when wrapped with metal wire. Fig. 1 shows the simplest form, which corresponds to a roller with tightly wound wires of circular cross-section.

In the case of the roller according to FIG. 2, the hairpipe effect is to be increased somewhat and the capacity of the channels is increased in that the individual ribs 2, from which the channels 1 have been formed, are slightly removed from one another so that narrow suction gaps 3 are created between them.

FIG. 3 shows a further embodiment of the surface channels of a roller which roughly corresponds to a roller wound with wire with a hexagonal cross section.

With all of these rollers, a hair tube effect on the water pressed out of the fabric between the rollers can be demonstrated.

It has been found, however, that good results can be achieved in particular when there is a certain ratio between the width, depth and spacing of the channels. These dimensions must be such that, on the one hand, the ribs of the web of material that press into the channels during pressing do not fill the channels down to the ground, while, on the other hand, these ribs have to be exposed to a certain compression in the transverse direction when pressed into the channels so that the fabric can leave the pressure rollers with a certain degree of dryness.

Finally, the free space between the fabric ribs and the bottom of the channels must not have too large a cross-section in relation to the total channel cross-section, since the upper ribs edges of the fabric web would in this case leave the press roller in a very moist state because they would leave the press roll immediately after your Passage through the press point would absorb some of the water squeezed out between the roller ribs again.

In tests with rollers with different channel profiles it has been found that channels with a width greater than 3 mm and a width smaller than 1 mm do not give good results. It has also been found that the depth should not be less than 0.3 of the greatest width. However, the shape of the channel profile can be changed between these limits. Within the specified dimensional limits, the adhesion between water and the metal of the roller at the bottom of the channels is always large enough to exert a tube effect.

FIGS. 4-12 of the drawing show, on a larger scale, a number of such channel profiles which have given satisfactory results. The less deep the canals, the more rapidly their sides must approach each other downwards. With the smallest of the depths shown (1/2 times the width), the semicircular cross-section is inexpedient because it does not achieve sufficient dry pressing of the upper parts of the fabric ribs that are formed during pressing. In this case, the cross-section must lie within the semicircle, as shown in FIG. 11.

In the figures shown, a denotes the width of the channels screwed into the roller surface. In Fig. 12, where the upper edges of the ribs are strongly rounded, this width is to be understood as the distance between the extended up to the surface of the roller th inclined sides of the channels. The distance a becomes smaller than the distance b between the channels.

If one imagines the profiles shown (Fig. 4-12) in their natural size, that is to say with a width of at most 3 inches, it will be understandable that those of the channel profiles shown also have where the bottom has a relatively small curvature (Z. B. Fig. 4, 6, 11), a strong adhesive effect will result.

It has been shown that the best results are achieved when the channels exactly in the circumferential direction, d. h. run ring-shaped in planes of the roller lying exactly perpendicular to the axis. However, the channels could also be somewhat inclined in the form of a ring or extend helically. Experience shows, however, that the squeezing-out effect is reduced to a greater extent, the closer the direction of the channels approaches the axial direction of the roller.

Surface channels running parallel to the roller axis cannot be used because the pressed water cannot flow off the roller from such channels quickly enough and the fabric is crushed in the process.
