Si l'on aâ disposition un fluideà tempé rature -élevée, le liquide #contenu dans les ré cipients 21 -peut être de l'eau, dans lequel cas on introduit,à travers le conduit17', de l'air ou un autre gaz, ou !aussi un liquide, tel que de l'huile,à température au-dessus de 100' C;
Le fonctionnement est le suivant: Le fluide chaud provenant du conduit 17'* passe dans le tube vertical 12 et,à tra vers la bouche 12' et letonduit 3a correspond dant, passeà la pa;
fig. 1.
pour la position occupée momentanément par le tambour 14 (fig. 3), communique avec le conduit 4b de, la chambreA Le fluide arrive clone #d',enba-s flans la,chambre lb et la quitte à travers le conduit3b pour passer dans la chambre 3e (fig. 2), parcourt d'en haut en bas la cliambre le, id'où il sortà travers le canal inférieur 4e qui communique avec, la chambre, 4d (fig. 3);
Les compartimenki analogues155', 156' et157'l 158' de la boîte 125 communiquent. de la même façon -avec, les boîtes 120 et 121 à travers les canaux127', 127 et,123', 123. Le compartiment159 de la boîte126 -c#ommu- nique, à travers la bouche 131A, avec le ré servoir131; lei compartiment160 commu nique,à travers labauche 131B, avec le tube 131';
Pendant cette période, les soupapes1511V des deux boîtes demeurent ouvertes et les chambres 120 et 121 -sont en communication avec' les tubes130' et132', de façon que l'augmentation de volume que les récipients 21 subissent dans la chambre 120 provoque un déplacement du liquide contenu dans le, système 130-130', et ee déplacement se transmet au piston >du cylindre136';
Dans cette construction, comme. dans d'autres précédemment décrites, les dilata tions et contractions successives des récipients (l#,formables sont réalisées pendant qu'ils se trouvent dans une chambre fermée et. pleine de liquide, de façon que la pression créée par la vaporisation du liquide contenu dans les récipients 21 :se transmet-à la machine utili satriceà travers unou plusieurs pistons (103 et137);
A method and apparatus for producing motive power using a temperature drop. The present invention relates to a process for the production of motive force by using a drop in temperature and consists of deformable, hermetically sealed containers containing a substance, which will be referred to as an operating agent, capable of vaporizing at the highest temperature available and condensing at the lowest temperature at </ B > arrangement, are alternately in contact with two fluids (liquids or gases) at different temperatures, inside chambers,
and the de- formations of these vessels are transmitted to a motor machine.
This process makes it possible to use, with the maximum efficiency, the energy of any heat source, even at low temperature and with an elilite, limited temperature to little, of -degrees centigrade.
The transmission of the deformations of the deformable containers to the driving machine can be carried out either by mechanical means, by rigidly connecting the containers themselves with a moving part of the machine, or by hydraulic means causing the deformation of the containers inside closed chambers full of liquid which exerts its action directly or indirectly on the mobile element of the machine.
. The appended drawings show, as by way of examples, installations for the realization of this process, and the fi -. 1 is a vertical section along the axis of an installation in which the de- formations of the containers containing the vaporizable substance are transmitted by mechanical means;

Figs. 16 and 17 show respectively in axial section and in front view a group of deformable containers for the installations of fig. 7 to 15.
In the embodiment shown to fig. 1 to 4, the installation is made up of an even number of closed chambers 1-a, lb, the ... rows in a circle on a base 2 and to each of which leads, respectively to the top and, to the base, ides conduits 3a, 3b, 3c ... </ B > and 4a, 4b, P. . . whose opposite ends are connected to the wall of a chamber 5 installed in the center of the crown of chambers 1. </ B>
In the t1iambre # central 5 are m # .iiag6s, à Paid by coaxial walls, two annular compartments 6 and 7 < / B> in communication with -two #conduives 8 and 9 terminating respectively at the suction side # and at the side of a 1-0 machine which is a fan, if it is a question of setting in motion a gas, or a centrifugal pump if it is a question of setting a liquid.
Above compartments 6 and. 7 and at the level of the mouths of the conduits 3 is mounted, so to </ B > to be able to turn, a dis tributor 11 drum whose mouths, equal in number to that of the chambers 1, are provided in the -wall # cylindrical and are interconnected -two to two to with the exception of -two, as visible to fi # o ,. 2.
In the drum 11 are provided -compartments 6 ", 7" and 7 " corresponding to -those < B> 6 and 7 above them; said drum is integral with two coaxial vertical tubes 12 and 13 connected respectively with the outlets I # 'and 13' of drum 11.
These tubes 12 and 13 carry fixed, in the area # corresponding to the outlets of the conduits 4, another distributor drum 14 (fig. 3) comprising two compartments 15 and 16 and comprising in its cylindrical wall, in a number equal to that of the chambers 1, outlets including two, < B> 15 ' #and 16', are connected with compartments 15 and 16, and the others each communicate with a mouth ad jacente.
The rotary member formed by the tubes 12 and 13 and by the drums 11 and 14 is dragged in rotation, continuously or intermittently, to using a 13 "crown, integral with the tube 13, and a 13" * "worm screw.
The tubes 1-9 #ei 13 and the compartments 15 and 16 communicate with. annular outlets formed by the fixed conduits 17, 18, 19, 20 to which the conduits 17 " and 20 'respectively end for the 'intake and 18' and 19 ' conduits for discharge.
In each, chamber 1 is a stack of containers 21, each formed by two discs of flexible material coupled at their edges by a peripheral ring and bearing in the center a freeze '22) which connects the walls facing each other, of two neighboring containers.
The discs can be made of corrugated iron, as in the construction shown to fig. 5; il., Can also be formed by elastic me-branes as shown to fig. 6; the variation in capacity of each container is due to the approximation and to the spacing of the discs.
The rod 22 connected to the lower wall of the lowest container is fixed to the bottom of the chamber 1, while the -stem, 22 ', integral with the wall top of the receptacle - the highest in the stack, passes through a gland 23 (the cover and it is connected to a piston 24. This is mounted -clans a cylinder 25 and lawful ground -in its -extreme position -at the top by counterweights 26, connected to tie-rods 27 which support on 28 pulleys pivoted on fixed arms.
These counterweights can serve both to compensate for the weight of the piston and the attached components and to exert the force necessary for the suction of the liquid from the </ B> tube 33, only to adjust the internal pressure of the deformable containers. This adjustment is necessary when the critical pressure of the vapor contained in the receptacles during the folding at the highest temperature is lower than the atmospheric pressure, because in these conditions it force must be applied to the containers to expand them.
Between the contiguous receptacles 21, it is useful to have partitions 29 perforated in such a way to -create a tortuous path for the fluid having to pass through the chambers 1; < / B> your 29 partitions are attached to the rods 22.
The cylinders 25 are coupled, -by tubes 30, with a central chamber, 31 where ends, to through valves 32, a suction pipe 33, and communicating, to -through valves 34, with a pipe discharge 35 in which is inserted an air chamber 36.
The installation is supplied by a hot fluid (such as air or water heated by any natural or artificial source) which is introduced through using the 17 " pipe. and by a cold fluid (such as air or water, at the temperature - ordinary or artificially cooled by evaporation or other processes) arriving through the channel 20 '.
The receptacles 21 enclosed in each chamber 1 must contain a definite quantity of a vaporizable liquid at the temperature of the fluid, temperature and at </ B> the internal pressure determined by the counterweights 26.
If there is a at high temperature fluid available, the liquid #contained in the containers 21 -may be water, in which case one introduces, to </ B> through the pipe 17 ', air or another gas, or! Also a liquid, such as oil, at temperature above 100 ° C;
if the -heated -fluid at -disposition is at low temperature, ammonia and sulphurous acid will be introduced into the receptacles 21, - ethyl chloride, - sulfuric ether, idu carbon sulfide, gasoline, benzol, alcohol, etc., and the expansion or contraction of the containers 21,, depending on the boiling temperature of the liquid used.
For the operation of the installation described, the central organ 11, 12, 13 14 must be rotated - in the opposite direction to < / B>: that of clockwise and that the pipe 19 " brings,; under the desired pressure, a fluid found at a higher temperature to that of the fluid which at the same time is introduced through line 20 '.
The operation is as follows: The hot fluid coming from the duct 17 '* passes into the vertical tube 12 and, to through to the mouth 12' and the corresponding duct 3a, passes to </ B> the pa;
the upper part of the chamber where it yields part of its heat to the receptacles 21 whose contents vaporize determining the expansion of the receptacles themselves and lifting it from the upper end of the laAigP, 22 '. The fluid, after having traveled from top to bottom of the # chamber la, following the path marked by the arrows to , passes into the lower duct 4a quï ,
fig. 1.
for the position temporarily occupied by the drum 14 (fig. 3), communicates with the duct 4b of, the chamber A The fluid arrives cloned # of, enba-s blanks the, chamber lb and leaves it through through the duct 3b to pass into chamber 3e (fig. 2), go through up and down the room, where it exits to through the lower channel 4e which communicates with, the chamber, 4d (fig. 3);
the fluid travels from the bottom to the top of the chamber Id that it leaves to tra towards the pipe 3d in communication with the tube 13 </ B > and with the 18 'discharge pipe.
The hot fluid travels, therefore one after the other, through the chambers la, lb, le, Id, exhausting all or part of its heat before being discharged.
At the same time, the cold fluid coming from the conduit 20 'passes into the compartment 16 of the lower distributor 14 and from here into the conduit 4i, passing successively through the chambers li il, lm, in whose duct 4n is located opposite the mouth 15 ' (fig. 3), through which a a. place la, discharge in the pipe 19 " (fig. 1). The cold fluid therefore travels through the other group & chambers li, 11, </ B > lm and in.
In the other two groups of four chambers, there is neither hot nor cold fluid circulation; in these two groups takes place an internal circulation activated by the machine 10 and by effect of which the air, or other fluid contained in the chambers, successively bundles from the chamber, Ir to the one on, at through the conduits 7 ', 8, 9 and 7 ", then in the chambers If , Ig, lh -from, to through the conduit 6 ', it goes into the chamber 10 and, going through rooms 11), lq, he comes back -in room Ir.
In two groups of chambers there is therefore a closed circulation and inside their interior there is an exchange of heat between the chambers previously traversed by the hot fluid and those previously traveled or streets by the cold fluid.
As a result of the. rotation -of the drum 11, 122, 13, 14, which in this case is equal to 1/16 of the circumference, the chambers are still divided into four groups, one of which carries the hot fluid, one the cold fluid and two closed circulation, but #each - group is moved by an element,
so that the group with hot feed includes #bedrooms lb, le, Id, le; the to cold supply includes chambers 11, lm, ln. V), and so on.
Each chamber is therefore subjected, for a period of time, to the action of a hot fluid and this in a progressive measure more intense as and to </ B > as it approaches the direct supply, then to the cooling action of the fluid contained in -other rooms where the cold supply has just ceased, then to. </ B > the action of the cold fluid, and finally to, the action of heating the fluid contained in the chambers previously crossed by the hot fluid.
During the admission of the hot fluid, the liquid contained in the receptacles 21 expands, so that the receptacles themselves expand and the rod 22 "moves by lifting the corresponding piston 24, while -during the admission - of the cold fluid the vapors contained in the receptacles 21 condense and, to cause the depression which forms inside their interior, the receptacles themselves are crushed and the rod 22 'goes down, causing the piston 24 to descend.
If the vessels 21 operate with critical internal pressure, in the intermediate periods each piston takes an average position; if the vessels 21 operate at pressure greater than than the critical pressure, lifting will start only when the temperature inside the inside of the containers has reached that of boiling liquid at the pressure which reigns in the recipants.
A complete -stroke of each piston takes place, therefore at each turn of the distributor 11, 12, 13, 14, whose speed -should , be adjusted in relation to the number of chambers constituting each group, so that the hot fluid can exhaust its -heat as completely as possible in contact with the containers 21.
In the construction shown to fig. 1 to 4, the stroke of the different pistons 9-4 is used to suck water from pipe 3? To to deliver it into that 35, which binds to serve both for lifting water, for example for sanitation or irrigation purposes, and for accumulating motive power. In the latter case, the duct 35 is -connected with any hydraulic motor, for example a turbine, the discharge of which leads to the duct 33. A this -effect can serve water or other suitable liquid.
The 22 'rods-alternating movement could naturally ' be used -do any other way for direct or in direct execution (the one work.
To carry out a transmission by way of the deformations of the receptacles (-unt ## nant the operating agent, one can have recourse to installations of the -different type depending on whether a mass of liquid is used, (heated and cooled -in - different zones. -in which the deformable containers have moved,
or alternatively that the hot and cold liquids are replaced in chambers where the deformable receptacles are brought alternately to or else where they are kept immobile. * </ B > An installation diagram in which the same mass of liquid is always used is shown to fig. 7, where 45 indicates the envelope of a #cha; mbre divided, by a partition 46, into two compartments in each of which is mounted a group of Uformable containers designated as a whole by 21 and can be of any suitable construction.
The cylinder 45 is enveloped by two sleeves 47 and 48, the first of which is run by a fluid at the lowest temperature available, introduced at 49 and un- loaded in 50, while the upper liner 48 is by a fluid at the highest temperature available, introduced in bl and discharged -in 52.
Chamber 45 is filled with liquid which is # at low temperature in the lower region and hot in the upper region.
A the lower part of the chamber 45, the -partition 46 is crossed by a cylinder 53 where can slide -a piston 54 connected by a connecting rod and a crank a. with a tree 55.
In the two compartments of the chamber 45, the definable containers 21 are connected to a control (not shown) by the effect of which the containers 21 enclosed in a compartment are at the top loTsque those of the other compartment is at the bottom, so that the phase of expansion of the containers 21 in one of the compartments corresponds to the phase of contraction in the other compartment.
-Therefore, in the compaxtiment where the expansion of the receptacles 21 takes place, a pressure is created which the liquid transmits to the pis ton 54 which, by moving, reduces the, ca # p, a- city of the other compartment in such a way that it compensates for the reduction in volume undergone by the containers 21 in the contraction phase.
The useful work is provided by the shaft 55 set in rotation by the piston 54 which moves alternately in opposite directions.
. To achieve a continuous flow of liquid under pressure, the diagram shown in to fig. 8 where chamber 45, filled with liquid, contains a series of deformable -91 containers controlled from the outside so that they alternately rise to the top of the chamber and descend to its bottom.
A halfway up this chamber, are connected conduits 56 and 57, respectively for the admission - and for the discharge, equipped with automatic valves 58 and 59 & insI # only with 60 and 61 rac * pipes strung with serpen tins 62 and 63 housed in -containers 64 and 65 and terminating at the -inferior ends and superior of room 45.
By circulating in the container 64 a cold fluid and -in the coil 65 a hot fluid, the liquid contained in the chamber 45 is kept hot in its upper region and cold in the lower region, so that the receptacles 21 set themselves here ± # once they reach the top of the chamber 45 and therefore expel, through 57, a corresponding volume of liquid under pressure, while, descending to the bottom of the chamber, they contract and suck, through through 56,
a corresponding volume of new liquid which replaces -that precede.dem- ment The expelled liquid ' d6cha # gé, -which leaves I at, chamber 45 in its middle region and, consequently , at temperature Mayenne, can be used in a turbine, for example in a wheel, Pelton, the discharge of which ends in the conduit 56. The -displacement of the containers 21 can.
be caused by an appropriate device, # any, for example by connecting them to an organ (rod, lever or the like) set in reciprocating motion by an external command, e.
One mode of carrying out this displacement is shown # to, fig. 9 where the receptacles 21 are carried by a carriage formed by springs, semi-elliptical 66 whose ends are provided with wheels 67 pressing on guides 68. These guides extend over the entire height of the chamber 45 and are mounted on parallel horizontal axes 69, at a -distance, such that By oscillating these axes in one direction or the other, the upper or lower ends of the 68. guides are brought together.
By the effect of the thrust which, under the action of the springs 66, the wheels 67 exert on the 0- guides 68 and by the effect of the opposite inclination thereof, the receptacles 21 tend to to be brought to the place where the spacing of the guides is maximum.
Consequently in Z # assuming that the expansion of the containers 21 located at the top of the chamber 45 is finished, as shown in solid lines to fi # -1. 9, if the guides 68 are brought into the position shown in this figure, as a result of an oscillation of the shafts 69, them containers descend -in the lowest position shown in dotted lines.
Naturally, in the calculation of the springs 66 and the inclination of the guides 68 it f has to take into account the buoyancy thrust to overcome to cause the descent of the dilated reepents in the liquid.
In the construction shown in fig. 9, it is assumed that the cold liquid arrives from below to through a connection 70 provided with! An automatic valve 71 and that the hot liquid arrives from above to through the connection 72 provided with a valve (automatic 73, the discharge takes place at through connection 74 provided with an automatic valve 75. A-Li instead of hot liquid, at through the raceord < B> 72, we could introduce steam which, with the help of a bubbler, mixes with the liquid and heats it.
Liquid could be introduced through 72 and steam through through another duct. In any case, the vapor can be sucked in and therefore be found at atmospheric pressure.
In the diagram, from the. fi-. 9. the. pressure - created by the expansion - of the vessels 21 is used to push back, to through the mouth 76, a volume of liquid which exerts its action on a parai at back and forth movement.
Consequently, the arrangement is such that when the containers 21 are at the top (in contact with, the hot liquid) the connection 74 is closed with using a 77 valve relic'-e to a spring 78 on which a lever 79 is pressed which forces the valve < B> 77 to close when the guides 68 diverge upwards (position in which the containers 21 rise).
The operation of this apparatus is based on the fact that the contraction of the receptacles 21 to effect the suction of the liquids takes place more rapidly than the return of the wall to movement of the vessel. -and-comes on which the pressure of the liquid is exerted.
If, instead of the back and forth movement of a piston, we want to create, with an apparatus according to ffi-. 9, a flow of liquid under pressure to be used, for example, in a turbine, it suffices to close the mouth 76 and to remove the valve 77. </ B> Then the liquid flows to through 74 to each phase of expansion of the vessels 21. This type of device is applicable only when the sum of the volumes of hot and cold liquid required for each movement does not-exceed the total variation in flight-Lime of the containers, which depends -on the, -temperature drop < B> at disposal.
By employing in the receptacles 21 a liquid at relatively high boiling temperature, such as for example sulfuric ether, the aspiration of the liquids is carried out also when these are < B> at a few meters below the level of the bedroom. The devices # according to fig. 8 and 9 will be de. preferably paired; two to two so that the aspiration phase in the one of them is at the discharge phase in Fatitre.
To - make the flow continuous, as is necessary for the actuation of turbines, several devices with displaced phases are available, possibly with insertion # of a tank .
When we have at disposal of the con siderable liquid masses - of which, ' the, temperature difference is of a few degrees only, and for the use of which it is necessary to place a liquid at low boiling temperature in the receptacles 21, the installation can take different forms from those shown to fi- * 7 to 9, provided that the deforinable containers 21 are always enclosed in a closed chamber full of liquid in order to be able to maintain them at the maximum pressure necessary.
A construct-hon - ide -this type is shown in fig. 10 and Il -where the apparatus -includes two twin elements, each comprising one, pipe 80 for the supply of hot liquid and one, con, pipe < B> 81 for the supply of the cold liquid, while the release of the two liquids can be carried out through through a single duct 82) where the suction can be created,
as in the example shown, by siphon, or to using pumps or any other way.
Each of the 80 and 81 leads results in one of two compartments 83 and 84 ffl-an ellwinbre, central unit which communicates, in two places corresponding to the two compartments, with the discharge duct 82. The communication to the introduction ducts is controlled by two valves < B> 85, 86 of the ends to alternately in opposite positions and actuated by a winking bone shaft 88 with the help of a spring 87. Communication from the 83 and,
84 with the discharge pipe 82 is driven by -valves 89 and 90 actuated by an oscillating shaft 92 </ B> with the help of a spring 91. The & ux compartments 83 and 81 are separated by a frame 93 ! Against the two opposite sides of which the edge of a plate 94 or 95. can rest
These two plates 94 and 95 are fixed to a rod 96 and they include between them the deformable -recipients 2 1, A < / B> the place corresponding to at the extreme position of the plates 94 and 95, the envelope comprises -cuts U # 7 and 98. </ B> The pressure inside inside the. cup 97 can be discharged at, through an adjustable duct 99, and in cup 98, which is tra poured by the rod 96, there pressure can be released to through the clamp.
The 83 and 84 compartments communicate with the exterior to allow a continuous loss of pressure through holes 100 and 101, possibly adjustable.
The compartment 83 -communicates with a cylinder 102 in which is molded the differential piston 103. On the head of the cylinder 102 are mounted: an intake valve 104 controlling its # communication with a 105 conduit leading to the caDal for cold liquid # c, and a relief valve 106 # requesting communication with # a space < B> 107 from which a conduit 108 and a conduit 109. depart.
The pipe 108 leads to compartment 84, of the paired appliance (fig. 11) and the, eoiiduit 109 brings the liquid under pressure at the place of its use. To avoid a depression below the crown of piston 103, the cy indre 102 # has holes 110.
The rod 96 pyend places in a cylinder 111 and the alternating movement of the rods 96 ides two paired devices is carried out to < / B> by means of a hydraulic transmission by the effect of the displacement of a piston 112 (fig. 12), mounted in a cylinder 113 with which the two cylinders 111 </ B> are connected by conduits 114.
The displacement of the piston 112- is obtained with using a #came 115 by the rotation of a shaft 116 also controlling., , </ B> for example 'with using a cam 117, ide levers 118, -and tie rods 119, < / B> shafts 88. and 92 for valve control (fig. 13). Assuming the device,
in the - conditions shown in fig. 10 and 11, the containers 21 are contracted inside the interior of the chamber 84 closed at the top by the plate 94. These conditions correspond at Io, end of the contraction phase during which the valves 86 and 90 are closed and the valves 85 and 89 are open. In the corner- partiment 89 has just taken place the re-heating of the hot liquid which is sucked, pax action of siphon, of the-pipe 80.
A - this moment, to because of the movement of the cam 115, is injected into the cylinder 111 a volume of liquid which causes the lifting of the rod 96. At the same time, the shafts 88 and 92 oscillate in the direction of opening the valves 86, and 90 and to close those 85 and 89.
The, plate 95 therefore reaches the frame M so that the receptacles 21 are enclosed in the -compartment 83; in the compartment 84 The à. liquid is renewed through the openings discovered by the valves 86 and 90.
The xecipients 21, being in contact with the hot liquid, dilate and they move a corresponding volume of liquid which lifts the piston 103. The liquid which, during the downward stroke of the piston, has passed in the cylinder -1052 through the duct 105, is now pushed back into the ducts 108 </ B > and 109. In the duct 108 passes a volume of liquid equal to the increase in volume undergone by the receptacles 21,
and -this liquid therefore serves to avoid -depression in the eompartment 84 of the other device during the contraction fold of the containers 21 to its interior.
The liquid which passes in the pipe 109, to through a valve 106 ' and -whose volume is equal to to the difference between the volume displaced placed by the upper face of the piston 103 #t the volume displaced. by the containers 21, can be used in the way mentioned, for example to supply a turbine whose discharge will be returned to the cold liquid suction duct.
A the end of the expansion phase of the vessels 21, the shaft 116 causes the lowering of the rod 96 with, the plates 94 and 95 which again close the cold compartment 84 slums that the trees 88 and 92 oscillate in the opposite direction -d'aupa # ra.va-nt and, not being able to open the valves 85 and 89 on which the existing pressure acts inside ( the compartment 83, ban-dent the sources 87 and 91, so that they open the valves 85 and 89 when the,
preqsion in compartment 88 has descended to because of losses to through hole 100.
When the valves # z 85 and 89 are opened, the hot liquid from 80 is renewed and discharged by 82; in the meantime the receptacles 21 were contracted in the compartment 8-1 whose valves 86 and 90 </ B> were closed due to the installation of arkes 88 and 92; the conditions visible in fig. 4 and 5 are therefore restored.
The rod 96 carrying the deformable containers could be actuated by any mechanical control.
The use., Of-Lin cylinder -in which the piston slides 103 has the purpose of keeping in touch-, with the, liquid t-haud, -in its bend of depletion, the volume of liquid removed, which while entering said cylinder continuously mixes with the hot liquid.
Another aim is to supply cold liquid to the receptacles 21 during the contract phase in the twin apparatus and to supply to the turbine -a liquid to la, total condensation pressure of the operating agent contained in the 21. vessels
Figs. 14 and 15 show another type of installation based on the same principle, but in which the deformable receptacles are kept stationary and where the hot and cold liquids are moved. supplied by reservoirs in which the renewal takes place while the reservoirs themselves are separated from the chambers containing the defornable receptacles.
The apparatus comprises two superimposed coaxial chambers 120 and 1221 where the deformable containers 21 are housed, near the peripheral zones of which are housed rings 122, (the triangular section and of heat insulating material; their aim is to reduce to a minimum the volume of liquid contained in the chambers 120 and 121 and to bring the liquid into contact with the containers 21.
The chamber 120 communicates, to through conduits 123, 123 " and 124, 124, with two distribution boxes 125 </ B> and 126 which will be described next and with which chamber 121 is also in communication through through s conduits 127, 127 ' and 128, 128' respec- Below the boxes 125 and 126 are arranged two pairs of tanks 129, 130 and 131, 132 whose first keys, of lesser capacity, are intended for hot liquid, and the other two, -de mpacW larger, are intended for cold liquid.
Each of these reservoirs comprises inside its interior a member capable of causing the liquid to move, for example a wheel with 133 blades operated, by -a 1.34-135 gear set in motion by the device control.
Each of the tanks 129, 130 and 131, 132 communicates at its upper end with one of the boxes of - distribution 125, 126 respectively, while at its lower end it communicates with a conduit 12911, 1.30 ', 131', 132 " which to </ B> its turn ends up in the corresponding distribution box &.
In the conduits 129 " and 131 ', which correspond respectively to a reservoir for the liquid cliaud and to a reservoir for the cold liquid, into both ends of a cylinder 136 which slides a piston 137 and a spring are inserted 138 tends to maintain -in its extreme visible position at fig. 14.
In the conduits 130 'and 132' are inserted the ends of another cylinder 136 ' equal to that 136 and the two cylinders < B> 136 and 136 ' end, through through check valves 139, at a manifold 140 feed the liquid under pressure at the place where it is to be used.
At the two boxes 125 and 126 finally end respectively the conduits 141 and 142 connected to -channels 143 for the introduction and 144 for the discharge of the hot liquid, and the conduits 145 and 146 connected to channels 147 for the introduction and 148 for the discharge of cold liquid.
The 125 and 126 distribution boxes are identical to each other and one of them is shown in section in fig. 15.
As can be seen from this figure, the interior -of each box -is divided, by three longitudinal partitions 149 and by two transverse partitions 150, in -ten compartments whose communications are controlled- by four double-core valves 1511, 15111. 151111 and 151IV which are all jammed, -with the help of springs 152, by -of cams 153 having all the same profile and -calibrated on shaft 154.
Each cam 153 symmetrically actuates the coaxial valves deg -two distribution boxes, so that the position of the coaxial valves is -to -every instant equal in both boxes, and the four cams 153 are oriented such that when valves 1511 and 151111 are open, valves 15111 and 151IV are closed and vice versa.
The compartments 155 and 156 of the box 126, controlled by the, valve 1511, </ B> communicate respectively. with the channels 124 "ei 124 ending in the chamber 120, whereby the compartments 157 and 158 communicate respectively with the channels 128 ' and 128 ending in room 121.
The analogous compartments 155 ', 156' and 157'l 158 ' of the box 125 communicate. in the same way - with boxes 120 and 121 to through channels 127 ', 127 and, 123', 123. The compartment 159 from box 126 -c # ommu- nique, to through the mouth 131A, with the tank 131; </ B> the compartment 160 communicates, to through the left 131B, with the tube 131 ';
the -compartment 161 communicates, through the mouth 132A, with the reservoir 132 and the * compartment 162 < / B> communicates, to through mouth 132B, with tube 132 '.
The compartments 163 and 164 finally communicate respectively with the tubes 146 and 145 through through the outlets 146 'and 145 ". The same communications exist between the tanks 129, 130 and tubes 141, 142, on the one hand, and between channels 1203, 123 ' and 127, 12.7', on the other part, to through the .125 distribution box.
The position of the different organs visible to fig. 14 and 15 correspond to the instant when the expansion of the vessels 21 is finished in the chamber, 121 la, expansion of the vessels 21 and in the chamber 120 the contraction is finished. A At this moment all the valves 151 in the two boxes 125 and 126 are closed.
As a result of the. rotation -of the shaft 154 the valves 15111 and 151IV open in the two boxes 125 and 126, so that ' at through the mouth 132A and the compaxtiment 158, the reservoir 132 communicates with the channel 128, </ B> while the tube 132 ' -communicates with the water-al 128' at through the mouth 132B and the compartment 157.
A cause of the rotation of the vanes 133 to, the inside of the tank 132, the liquid is moving out, - place in the pipe comprising the reserve see 132, tube 132 ', the, conduifs 128, 128' and chamber 121, so that part of the liquid cold contained in 132 passes into chamber 121 and flushes out the little exhausted hot liquid that is still in this -chamber before it.
Likewise, hot liquid is introduced into chamber 1-90 which is in communication with the tank 130 and with the tube 130 'at through the compartments. 157 " and 158 ' from box 125.
At the same time, at. through the lights uncovered by valves 151PI and 1511V, which are open in the two boxes, tanks 131 and 129, containing the cold and hot liquids exhausted in the previous phase, are placed in communication with the conduits 145, 146 and 141, 142, so that the exhausted liquid is replaced by new liquid to because of the rotation of the pallets 133.
During #this period, the cold liquid is therefore in contact with containers 21 in the chamber. 121 and the hot liquid is in contact with the receptacles 21 in the chamber 120, so that in the first of these chambers the contraction of the receptacles takes place and in the second their expansion takes place.
During this period, the valves 1511V of the two boxes remain open and the chambers 120 and 121 -are in communication with 'the tubes 130' and 132 ', < / B> so that the increase in volume that the containers 21 undergo in the chamber 120 causes a displacement of the liquid contained in the system 130-130 ', and this displacement is transmitted to the piston> of the cylinder 136' ;
this bottom moves -from left to right by moving to in turn a larger volume of the cold liquid contained in the. leads 13-) to 132 'and to the right end of the cylinder 136'.
A part of the cold liquid! Displaced by the piston compensates for the reduction in volume undergone by the containers 21 in the chamber 121 - and the difference is discharged into the collector duct 140 where the liquid is located to the pressure reigning in the.! 21 vessels in the contraction phase.
A at the end of the period mentioned, valves 151X and 151IV close and those 1511 and 151111 open, so that now they are in communication, at, through 155, 156 -and 155 ', 156f, tank 129 (hot liquid) with chamber 121 and the reservoir 131 (cold liquid) with the chamber 120, while in the reservoirs 130 and 132 takes place the renewal of the liquid.
During this period the containers 21 expand in the chamber 121 and those of the chamber 120 contract and the piston 137 of the cylinder 136 moves to the right.
At the same time, the pressure on the right side of the cylinder piston 136 ' is canceled (the reservoir 132 being in communication with' discharge) so that the piston is returned by its spring (analogous to 138) to its initial position. A at the end of this period the conditions shown are therefore reestablished in fig. 14 -and 15, after which a new cycle begins.
In this construction, like. in others previously described, the successive expansions and contractions of the formable containers (l #, are carried out while they are in a closed chamber and. full of liquid, so that the pressure created by the vaporization of the liquid contained in the receptacles 21: is transmitted -to the using machine to through one or several pistons (103 and 137);
each of these pistons has two opposite faces -d'areas different-es and on the face of lesser area acts the pressure exerted by the vaporizable liquid during its vaporization. while on the larger, larger area face.
acts the pressure exerted by the vaporizable liquid 1 in during its con, -d.ensa.-hon. The difference in area of the two faces of the piston must be such that equilibrium is achieved, the movement of the piston being caused by the pressure reduction which takes place from </ B> side from which the liquid is released to pass to the user machine which from there, is supplied at the pressure of - condensation of the vaporizable liquid used.
By resorting to carbonic acid and -achieving, for example, a -condensation temperature of, 150 C., the cooling pressure of the turbine is approximately 50 atmospheres.
The displacement of the liquids contained in the # reservoirs 129, 130, 131, 132 (fig. 14 and 15) could still be carried out, key, different ways, for example. by replacing the 129, 130, 131, 1.32 reservoirs with pump bodies - each of which has a piston. These pistons may be actuated by any appropriate command .
We could also arrange all these pump bodies on the same axis and actuate the pistons to using a rod connected to another piston mounted! In a cylinder. , where the pressure of the liquid increases, in the same way as in cylinders 136 and 136 ', using -directly a part -of the energy supplied by the 'installation.
When Pon uses a liquid under pressure, for example coming from a tank at level higher than the installation, it is sufficient to connect each% of these tanks with the chambers containing the containers. deformable with the aid -of two tubes in order there to carry out the circulation -du liquid. Another mode of supplying the liquid under pressure to chambers 120 and 121 is to employ two-cylinder pumps in tandem, one of which is an engine cylinder.
These pumps are of the ordinary with, steam type with the difference that> in the motor cylinder acts the liquid discharged during the expansion of the receptacles 21.
The arrangements described in which the deformations of the receptacles are transmitted hydraulically make it possible to use, in the receptacles 21, liquids -to low boiling point and to have, despite this, containers with very thin walls, because the pressure at their interior is always equal to, that of the surrounding liquid, with a slight difference in more during the period of expansion to overcome the resistance that the walls offer to bending.
The reduction to a minimum of the thickness of the walls of the receptacles, that is to say of the mass which is alternately heated and cooled, is particularly advantageous in order to reduce the loss of heat which, depending on the drop in temperature and the heat specific to the material employed, is 10 to .15 '/ o of the -calories employed.
The deformable receptacles should preferably be made of a metal which is a good conductor of heat and of such a f manner that, in their contracted position, their walls are almost in contact with each other and that the interior space is completely filled with vaporizable liquid.
The shape of these containers 21, which have been shown schematically, in FIGS. 7 to 15, can be any, Figs. 16 and 17 show, to as an example, a type formed by two flexible walls 37 with the edges attached to., two sides of a ring 38. This ring 38 -has a hole 39 with which each element can be mounted on a rod 40 where they are held in place. to using collars of position 41.
Each, annea, u 38 comprises, -in the portion compressed between the hole 39 and its inner edge, a notch 42 and the rod 40 has a groove 43 # corresponding to oefte notch; and end up on the outside -to the a-Me of a 44. - This construction makes it easy to introduction into the deformable containers of the operating agent which y penetrates at through the duct 44, the groove 43 and the notches 42 .
In the event that these receptacles are mounted mobile in the chamber (fig. 7, 8 and 9) they can be connected with a reservoir -of operating agent < B> at Using flexible tubes, because, being immersed in the liquid which is practically at the same pressure as that prevailing inside receptacles, these tubes are not subjected to excessive internal pressure.
The -de, formable elements constituting the containers 21 can be arranged with their axis both horizontal and vertical.
As the operating agent, ether, ethyl chloride; ammonia, carbon dioxide, liquid air, etc., and by introducing into each receptacle an insufficient quantity of substance to, fill it when it is condensed, can obtain the expansion of its vapors.
To use the the most complete to temperature drop - arrangement, two or more devices containing different vaporizable liquids can be coupled and bring to, < / B> each device of the hot and cold liquids which are discharged from the previous device.
To keep the chambers where the deformable containers are installed at all times under pressure, -these chambers are connected with tanks supplied by -pumps and whose communication will be regulated by -vaps so to </ B> introduce liquid, again into the chambers when there is there a drop in pressure due to losses or to d 'other causes.
The chambers will also be provided with an automatic apparatus which, in the event of an excessive depressant, puts the deformable containers in communication with the exterior in order to discharge the operating agent and thus prevent the explosion of the containers.
The method described makes it possible to use as completely as possible the drop in temperature which is available . It also becomes possible to use, with a high efficiency, the heat released by the combustion of fuels, which serves to heat the air, or! of water, tMant directly or indirectly its heat, aui, receptacles 21.
It is also possible to use natural sources of heat (regions. Volcanic, soffioni, solar heat) or artificial sources of heat which cannot be used otherwise (vicinity of ovens, gas and discharge vapors. , tondensation water, etc.) and in general any large or small source of heat.
As cold fluid, it is finally possible to use water or cold or cooled air, for example by the evaporation of water or of liquid a-atres. The drop in temperature that exists between the air thus cooled and the ambient air, or also between two waters at different temperatures, may be sufficient for the operation of an engine.
