Description

Phonographe.

Phonograph. The present invention relates to a phonograph; the latter is characterized in that the resonance chamber presents, in horizontal projection, the shape of a triangle, the sound arriving in this chamber through an opening made in an angle of said triangle and being returned to the opposite side of the triangle. this one which has at least one opening through which the sound comes out.

The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, one form of the object of the invention.

Fig. 1 is a plan view thereof, FIG. 2, a front elevation, FIG. 3, a section, along line A-B of fig. 1; figs. 4 and 5 show, details.

The phonograph shown comprises a three-sided cabinet, constructed to resemble one. Japanese pocket fan. The two side walls are rigid but nevertheless liable to vibrate under the action of the sound waves; they are represented by 1, the upper plate by 2 and the bottom by 3.

The uprights placed at the angles and represented by 4 not only have the key purpose of securely connecting the side walls 1 to the upper 2 and lower 3 trays, but they allow the instrument to rest better on the support on which it is placed, a piece of furniture for example, or on the ground, their lower extremities being terminated by feet. These uprights constructed in this way make the phonograph more elegant.

The interior of the phonograph cabinet is divided into compartments by means of a separating plate 5, the upper compartment 7 being that in which the motor is placed; the lower compartment 6 constitutes the resonance chamber. This is triangular in shape and it receives the sounds through an opening 9 made in the upper plate 2 in the corner or angle placed directly in front of the center of the open side of said resonance chamber.

A sound reflector 8 is placed immediately below the opening 9 made in the upper plate, this sound reflector returning the sound waves which arrive, through the opening 9, in the resonance chamber 6, these waves. sound then sliding slightly towards the open part of the resonance chamber. The surface of this sound reflector is concave or horn-shaped. respond to that of the curved part of the separation plate 5; the side walls 1 complete the bottom of the resonance chamber.

The side of the resonance chamber through which the sound comes out is closed by a Il screen formed by a foldable frame on which is held a piece of silk.

The construction as described above differs completely from the methods used heretofore in the construction of phonographs and it presents great improvements in the. way of transmitting, amplifying and producing musical or other sounds. Experience has shown that the sounds which pass through the screen 11 are purified and the scratching resulting from the friction of the needle on the rotating disc reduced to a minimum; this screen conceals at the same time the internal parts of the phonograph, which preserves them from dust and makes the instrument more elegant.

When the phonograph is not in use, the. This spacious resonance chamber can be used to store the \? 0 turntable, the records, the box. sounds and reproducer, winding key, etc., which makes it very easy to transport the device in one piece.
