Description
Process for the production of iron alloys. In the production of Eisenlegierun conditions such. B. steel alloys, it is customary to add the substances to be added to the molten iron to achieve special properties of the product in elemental form, e.g. B. also in the form of alloys to admit. For example, to achieve a silicon, chromium or tungsten-containing iron alloy, the molten iron is usually ferrosilicon, ferrochrome or. Ferro- and olfram added.
We have now found that such iron alloys can also be produced by adding a mixture of compounds of the substances to be alloyed with the same with reducing agents to the molten iron, which have a reducing effect on the added compounds at the prevailing temperature. As compounds of the substances to be added, for example ores, metal oxides and also metalloid compounds come into consideration. Metals or alloys can be used as reducing agents.
Calcium and aluminum have proven to be particularly suitable as reducing agents in metal baths. The calcium is best used for the mixture in the form of the known silicon-calcium alloy, which is obtained in an electric furnace by melting calcium carbide with quartz with the addition of carbon. Alumi nium can be added as such and also in the form of alloys, such as silicoaluminium and the like. The mixture is expediently used in the form of briquettes.
