Centrifugal machine for casting hollow cylindrical bodies. The present invention relates to a centrifugal machine with one or more molds, for casting hollow cylindrical bodies such as pipes, for example, of the type in which each mold rests on two rotating supports, at least one of which is controlled by the motor member, a machine characterized by the fact that it is established in such a way as to enable molds of different length and diameter to be fitted therein, and by the fact that each mold is kept in contact with its two rotary supports by means of of friction rollers, the pressure of which is adjustable.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan, partially in section, of a first form; Fig. 2 is an end view thereof taken in the direction of arrow 2 in FIG. 1; Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views showing two variants of this form; Figs. 5 and 6 are dirty cross sections made through lines 5-5 of fig. 3 and 6-6 of fig. 4 respectively; Fig. 7 is a plan of a second form; Fig. 8 is an end view, taken in the direction of arrow 8 in FIG. 7.
In the first of these forms (fig. 1 to 6), the base plate A of the machine carries two pairs of bearings B B ', in which two horizontal parallel shafts are journaled <I> C D. </I> A. two of the corresponding ends of these shafts are attached pulleys C 'D', and relatively long length CZ DZ drums are carried by these trees near their other end. The pulleys C1 Y and the drums C \ Dz constitute the support for the mold E, shown in section in FIG. 1.
This mold has at each of its ends a bearing flange E '. These flanged skies And rest, on the one hand, on the pulleys C1 Di and, on the other hand, on the drums C2 D2. Thanks to the relatively long length of these drums, the same ma. china can be used -for molds which differ considerably in length.
The shaft C is driven by means of a suitable transmission member by a motor F via a clutch G and a shaft H provided with a brake J (fig.l). The clutch G and the brake J are controlled by a common lever IC, the arrangement (not shown) being such that the brake is applied as soon as the clutch is disengaged and vice versa.
The mold rests freely on its rotating supports and is driven by friction by the pulley C 'and the drum C ".
The mold E is in two parts assembled longitudinally and is shaped so as to. produce a cast pipe with a flange at each end. A. For this purpose each end of the mold is provided with a removable terminal partition E \, having a central opening through which the molten metal is introduced to. using a usual casting apparatus. The dimension, of these or vertures determines the thickness of the casting which, in the. fig. 1, is indicated by the dotted lines E3. To allow the rework of the. casting, cores E 'are provided, preferably of sand or compressed graphite.
To hold the mold in position on its rotating supports, two friction rollers L (fig. 2) are mounted at the free end of an arm L ', the vertical position of which relative to the mold can be adjusted on a pillar L \, the upper part of which is threaded by means of a nut with handle L 'which pushes the arm L' downwards against the action of a spring L '.
The distance between the axes of the shafts C and D can "be adjusted to adapt to molds of different diameters (fig. 1 and 2), by means of screws 31, and spacer blocks N 'making it possible to adjust the position. bearings B 'supporting the driven shaft D.
The two halves of the mold are assembled either by means of a clamp N 'with hinge, tightened by means of a nut on a flange E' (fig. 3 and 5); or by means of a collar Nn with loops N5 tight on the mold by means of wedges N '(fig. 4 and 6).
Fig. 4 shows a variant of the end! Of the mold, in which the. running surface E 'instead of being in one piece with the body of the mold, is separated from the latter and forms part of the end wall E ", which is fixed to the mold by means (the bolts E with head in T.
When the friendly (the bearing are not in one piece with the body of the mold, it is advantageous to interpose between them and the body of the mold, a heat-resistant material such as, for example, an ace sheet This sheet not only prevents the ring from getting too hot and eventually twisting, but also tends to prevent quenching by cooling the mold body near the ring.
In the. second embodiment (fi- '7 and 8) the machine is intended to receive two molds. Two pairs of shafts C 'Da and C' D 'each carry a pair of pulleys and drums C1 D' <I> and </I> C 'D' serving; from rotating supports to, a mold E.
The shafts C5 and C 'are actuated by gear wheels 0 receiving their movement from a pinion 0', wedged directly on the shaft F 'of the motor. These gear wheels 0 are only mechanically connected to the shafts C5 and C 'when acting on clutches G' using levers K '. In this way, the rotation of the two molds can be controlled iiideperially.
The arrangement shown in fi-. 7 and 8 to hold the molds on the machine is very similar to, that described in connection with fi-. 1 and 2, a roller (the friction L 'being mounted on a bracket L. Which can be raised or lowered on a pillar L' by means of a nut and a flywheel LS. In this form of execution,, springs L are provided above and below the console L ', this arrangement being sometimes desirable.
These LG friction rollers are based on the bearing rings E '. Of the molds, instead of based on the periphery of the mold body as shown in fig. 2. To allow moving one of the friction rollers LJ when using molds of -different lengths, provision has been made. guides L1, along which can be moved .two of the pillars L '.
In this. form, the braking mechanism is independent of the clutch @ mechanism. It consists of a pedal lever P connected by connecting rods as shown at P 'to levers P2 carrying (the brake shoes P'.
As soon as one of the clutches G 'has been put out of action, the brake can be applied to the pulley Cl of the actuated roller <I> C' or </I> C 'and the mold can be brought to rest without this has an influence on the functioning of the other mold.
