End valve for coupling pipes of the type of those forming part of steam heating pipes -for railways (railways and other , applications. The present invention relates to an end valve with coupling for ac coupling pipes of the type of those forming part of steam heating pipes for railways and other applications, and it has the peculiarity that the movement of the shutter member of the valve in its closed position produces automatically venting the steam or other fluid contained inside the coupling pipe,
to enable the coupling pipe to be detached without damage or inconvenience which would otherwise be due to the escape of steam or other pressurized fluid from the coupling pipe while the latter is being detached.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an end view of an embodiment of the single lane type; Fig. 2 is a vertical section; Figs. 3 and 4 are views, similar to those of FIGS. 1 and 2, of the second embodiment, of the two-way type.
The embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2 include the valve body 1 and a pipe 2 to which a coupling pipe (not shown) is removably connected. It also comprises the usual valve or shutter valve 3, in the form of a disk, arranged to be maintained on its seat 4 by means of a spring 5 interposed between the valve-carrying arm 6 and the valve 3, the arm 6 being able to be moved by means of an external operating handle 7 .de so as to bring the valve 3 into a suitable position to establish a communication between the interior of the body 1 and the connecting tube 2.
The outer face of the valve 3 -is a view of an annular groove 8 which, when the valve- is in the closed position, as shown in FIG. 2, comes in front of a notch 9 formed at the edge of the seat 4, while another portion of this groove comes in front of a channel 10 communicating with an air exhaust duct 11 made in the mass of the connection pipe 2.
When the tap is closed to allow the removal of the coupling pipe, the vapor or other fluid contained inside the tubing 2 and the coupling pipe is free to escape to the atmosphere. by the notch 9, the groove 8, the channel 10 and the exhaust duct 11. However, when the valve is open, the valve 3 occupying the position indicated at 3 'by dotted lines in FIG. 1, the groove 8 will no longer be in front of the notch 9 so that the communication between the inside of the valve and the atmosphere is intercepted.
The valve shown in fig. 3 and 4 is of the two-way type and comprises two connecting pipes 2, 12 shaped according to different types of coupling pipe fittings. When the operating handle 7 is in the position shown, the valve or valve 3 is held in a suitable position to prevent communication between the interior of the valve body 1 and one and the other of the connection pipes 2, 12. By turning the handle 7 to the right or to the left, communication is established between the interior of the valve body 1 and either the connection pipe 12 or the connection pipe 2, respectively.
The outer face of the valve 3 is seen as a shallow circular recess 13 which, when the handle 7 is in its closed position, as shown, establishes communication between the two tubes 2 and 12, thus allowing steam or other pressurized fluid to escape from inside that of the connecting tubing which. is in service, the vapor or other fluid thus escaping from this tubing in service through the recess 13 to the other tubing which is not in service, and from there to the atmosphere.
When the operating handle 7 is in one or the other of its extreme positions to the right or to the left, the recess I3 is in front of the connection pipe which is not in use and is therefore following put out of action.
The invention is not limited to the embodiments described. In particular, the shape of the connection pipe (s) may vary: the same applies to the valve or valve and its operating handle.
