Description
Electric heating element made of silicon carbide and chromium-nickel wire. It is known that electrical heating elements are produced from silicon carbide as well as from chromium-nickel wire. These are applicable when using silicon carbide, usually in rod form, and when using chromium-nickel wire as spirals in the open air.
The silicon carbide gives resistances with a negative temperature coefficient, the chromium-nickel wire with a positive temperature coefficient, and with silicon carbide the negative temperature coefficient is greater, the looser the relationship between the individual particles that make up the material and around the smaller, the higher the temperature of the material.
The present invention is an electric heater consisting of a combination of both materials, which has their advantageous properties united ver. It is produced by pouring powdered silicon carbide loosely into a tube, which is expediently made of quartz, without using a binder. In the cold state, this powder initially shows great resistance.
In order to reduce this, a chrome nickel wire spiral is embedded in the powdery mass, which is parallel to that of the silicon carbide powder in relation to the resistance. When the current passes through, the chromium-nickel wire spiral is first heated and with it the silicon carbide powder, which becomes conductive. To - the more negative. To change the temperature coefficient of the powder made of silicon carbide, the same admixtures, z. B. powdered iron oxide and calcium carbonate are added.
The tube, from which the resistance is included, is either melted shut at the ends or sealed with a putty compound.
In the accompanying drawing, an exemplary embodiment from the subject of the invention is shown schematically with cemented pipe ends. It is cc a tube made of quartz, b a spiral of chromium-nickel wire housed in the same, c that is pulverized, - silicon carbide in which the spiral b is embedded, and d the cement compound; e are the power connections.
