thermo-jonic tube amplifier. The object of the present invention is an amplifier with thermionic tubes, coin-carrying one or more amplification stages with the use of transformers with magnetic core. This amplifier is characterized in that the potential of different parts of the amplifier is defined by means of connections, in order to avoid the initiation of parasitic oscillations within inside the ap pareil.
Fig. 1 of the appended drawing which represents, by by way of example, one embodiment of the object of the invention; Fig. 2 shows a construction detail.
A particular phenomenon which occurs in thermionic tubes is that of ignitions due to static phenomena. We can eliminate them by defining the potential of the transformers' masses and possibly that of their windings, with respect to the -P stack. A this effect, it suffices to connect, as shown in fig. 1, the aforesaid masses Mi 3f2 Ma and a terminal of the input transformer Ti at any point of </ B> pile P, as represented by the dotted lines in the figure.
In the particular case where the operating resistance B is a receiving telephone and where Pon wants to avoid too great a potential difference between the telephone coil and the ground, we will choose the same potential of the masses as the one the pole of the battery which is closest to the windings of these transformers (in the example chosen, the positive pole).
Likewise, the mass of the windings of the transformers (more particularly of the transformer Ti) could have its defined potential. We can extend this process to the secondary circuit of the transformer which supplies the circuit crossed by the amplified current (output transformer) 'and also connect one of the starting terminals of this circuit to any point of the battery that powers the plates or the filament heating battery.
The potential of the transformers can also be defined electro-statically with respect to to the earth or to the battery by placing each of these transformers in a conductive casing (in copper or in aluminum) itself connected to the earth or to the battery. This arrangement has the advantage of magnetically isolating the transformers from one another; it is also particularly advantageous in the case of high frequency aperiodic at amplification which is specific to amplifiers giving substantially equivalent reception in a wide range of frequencies.
It will easily be understood that the protection of the amplifiers at high. frequency against disturbances resulting from internal reactions is more necessary than that of low frequency amplifiers to . In fact, induction phenomena are much more developed when it comes to high frequency currents, hence the need for interior screens to the apparatus. to avoid parasitic inductions.
As far as aperiodic amplification is concerned, we will also notice that this need is further increased since, by their very nature, aperiodic amplifiers are carried to indiscriminately amplifying all vibrations, useful or parasitic, in a wide range of frequencies.
The ductile envelopes intended to avoid magnetic leaks can be replaced by the simpler means shown in fig. 2 of the attached drawing. The transformer 24 with coil 25 is surrounded by a large short-circuited coil 26, connected to the ground.
In some cases, it may be necessary to define the potential -of the device, Pa "relative to that of the mass of the headset or even more to that operator. Finally, we are led to define the potential of the system in relation to to the earth. We arrive y by connecting one pole of the battery to the earth and this is a ship's station by connecting one pole of the battery to the hull of the ship.
To connect the ground of the telephone headset to the battery, it suffices to connect a terminal of the telephone circuit to a point of the battery and put to earth the corresponding terminal of the telephone. The connection is, therefore, of made by one of the 3 conductors of the telephone itself. It has been recognized experimentally that it may y have an interest in the above aim to define the potential of a conductive surface of suitable contour arranged - in the vicinity of the transformers and tubes of the first amplification stages, by connecting this sui-face to titi point of the stack, for example.
The electrical connections established to de- end the potential of a given point can be introduced with the interposition of any impedance, for example an ohmic resistance. In particular, a symmetrical arrangement is obtained for the two terminals of the circuit cl . arrival yes of departure, one of which must have its potential Ufiiii, by connecting the two aforementioned terminals by a resistance, ohmic and in connecting to in turn the midpoint of this resistor to any point of the batteries in the system. The arrangement of these resistors has, in certain cases, the advantage of damping the amplifier system and of eliminating there certain initiations.
> b A symmetrical arrangement would still be obtained, independently of the arrangement of resistors, by defining the potential of the midpoint of the transformer winding ending at the terminals considered.
The links mentioned above which can take place through the intermediary of any impedance can also be made through through appropriate capacitors. This arrangement has the additional advantage of avoiding an accidental passage of direct current which can lead to short-circuits.
In particular, when the telephone receiver is, by construction, electrically connected to the plate circuit. of the last amplifier tube and that the receiver circuit is electrically connected to the grid filament circuit of one of the thermionic tubes, if the telephone receiver is accidentally brought into contact with the receiver circuit, the power source is cut off. -circuit.
According to the last stated arrangement, this drawback will be avoided by establishing communication between the receiver circuit and the thermionic tube by means of a capacitor located inside of the device. This capacitance can be of the order of a few thousandths of a microfarad only, since the frequency of the currents received is very high and the resistance of the space between the electrodes of the tube comparatively very high.
