Description

Method of fixing needles in strips for textile machines. Until now, there have been various procedures for fixing needles in bars, the most remarkable of which consisted of drilling right through the hollow body of the bar in transverse direction to a diameter corresponding to the average diameter of the needles that one pleases with the hand, in the holes thus obtained and which one forced and then fixed with a machine or a hand hammer in said holes. We also used turnings of cast iron, glue or we let rust the ends of the needles in the holes, in order to obtain a good adhesion.

Another method of fixing also consisted of placing the needles side by side on the bar, and at the < B> y solder.

All these fixing methods had the great disadvantage that the needles of conical shape, were only tightened and sounded by their thick end, while over the rest of their length they remained subject to vibrations and shocks, main causes of loosening. very frequent needles, causing their loss and breakage; difficult and costly repairs were the consequence. Also to the breaking of the tips during work on the machine, the old fastening systems, either by forced insertion or by welding on the body of the bars presented the greatest difficulties in rationally replacing them. spikes.

In the first case, the broken ends "and remained riveted in the body were very difficult to take out, in the second case, when the weld was melted all the neighboring points, held in place by this weld alone also fell or moved apart. The regular drilling of the bars also presented great difficulties and required some skill on the part of the worker, to fix the needles in the holes thus drilled while often causing cracks in the bars, depending on whether the holes or the needles were uneven or the hammer blows too hard.

The method forming the subject of the present invention aims to obviate in large part the above-mentioned drawbacks, According to the method, at least one longitudinal groove is hollowed out in the body of the bars, the transverse holes are drilled, intended to receive the needles, so to make them Uboucher in said groove and the needles are fixed, after having placed them in said holes, by means of solder filling the raintire and the holes.

This fixing method is very convenient, as the needles are fixed to the bar by the solder in the grooves, which also enters the holes, y fixing each needle over its entire length inserted into the bar. The equal height of the row of needles can be easily achieved, for example by pressing down before welding the tips against a ruler. The installation and especially the replacement of the needles are very easy. The needles being held in the holes, the weld is not subjected to any force by the needles, as a result of the work that the latter must provide on the machine. The fixing method also guarantees that the points are maintained in the body of the bars, when replacing a point, that is to say, if the tin is molten.

In addition, the process requires less labor and simplifies the previously delicate drilling, in such a way to allow any workers to be entrusted with this work, and no longer specialists, as until now. The losses in points and bars, which were about 10 11 / o, are much less than with the old methods of fixing, since the point is no longer damaged by hammer blows and that the bar is no longer susceptible to cracking. However, the bars do not lose any rigidity by the application of the grooves, due to the filling of the groove or grooves by welding.

The process can be carried out in various ways, some of which will be described below. To make them better understood, reference is made to the appended drawing, which represents to examples of three embodiments of bars in which the fixing of the pins is obtained. by executing the process

According to filg. 1 and 2, two parallel grooves 2 and 3 are made in the body 1 of the bar.

This body is drilled in the direction of the arrow (fig. 1) with parallel transverse holes 5, whose diameter corresponds to the diameter of the thickest part of the needles 4 . The holes 5, in which the needles 4 are placed, open into the two grooves 2 and 3.

To fix the needles 4 in the holes 5, they are inserted in these, the flattened end downwards in the direction of the arrow (fig. 1) j (isqti # so that their flattened end abuts against the rim 6 of the body 1 of the bar. After having equalized the height of the needles 4, the grooves 2 and 3 completely with solder, which also enters the holes 5 filling the space left free by the needles. In this way, we return to </ B > the bar its entire rigidity, while fixing cry at the same time the needles.

Zn The embodiment shown in fig. 'a and 4 has only one longitudinal groove 2, made in the body 1 of the bar. The parallel transverse holes 5, in which the needles 4 are placed, are drilled in the body 1 of the bar in the direction of the arrow, indicated in fig. a ". These holes, which all open into 1 groove 2, have a part, the diameter of which a corresponds to the diameter of the thickest part of the needles, and one part, the diameter of which b approximately equals the average diameter of the needles.

The needles are introduced into the holes, the tips up, in the direction of the arrow (fig. 3), after which the row of needles is leveled and the groove and the holes are filled with pennies. tough.

The parallel transverse holes 5 opening into the groove 2 are drilled to the diameter a of the thickest part of the needles 4, which are placed in the holes in the direction of the arrow (fig. 5 ). After having equalized the row of points, we fill the groove 2 between the edges 6 with the solder, as well as the holes, which gives an excellent support to the needles, which does not can come off with difficulty.

One could also hollow out in the body of the bar a groove similar to that of fig. 3 and a second groove, similar to that of fig. 5.
